The Sentinel Drone is a cheap and efficient autonomous intruder alarm-and-response system. Each drone is approximately 10" in diameter, and weighs slightly over 1 lb. Because the observational abilities of the Sentinel Drone are not hampered by lightness conditions, the magical lens that each drone 'sees' through makes the use of the inset 'glow lamp' an option, not a necessity. Outfitted with integrated energy weapons, the magical, hovering Sentinel Drone can respond to threats with lethal force. Each drone is also equipped with an audio alarm capable of rousing your own guards. Glow lamp, alarm, and combat-response orders each activate (or not) as per every individual drone's 'programmed' instructions. Sentinel Drones can easily be instructed to cooperate with each other, and with most other magical defense and security systems.

Combat[edit]

Alarm (Ex): When a Sentinel Drone detects an unrecognized creature or mobile object, it can emit a braying alarm, clearly audible up to 60 feet away and, in quiet conditions, more faintly audible as far as 180 feet away. Sentinel Drones use a magical lens to ‘see’ and ‘hear’, and, though a drone’s visual equipment functions extraordinarily well in darkness, cannot recognize impostors or make out obscured shapes any better than a human could. Typically, the alarm sounds until all detected intruders have been eliminated or have escaped the drone’s detection for at least 10 consecutive rounds, though drones can be 'programmed' to sound the alarm for longer or shorter durations, or not at all.

Glow Lamp (Sp): The mounted 'glow lamp' each drone possesses can function as a directional lighting device (as a bullseye lantern), or it can be made to illuminate an area 15 feet in radius. These abilities are free actions that function at will. Because Sentinel Drones do not require light to ‘see’, however, they are usually instructed to forgo the use of the lamps unless they are serving as point guards for other guard personnel.

Sentinel Lens (Su): In addition to a integrated energy weapon, the Sentinel Drone is equipped with a magical lens that enables the drones to 'see' (and even 'hear') as well as a human. This magical lens grants the drone a +5 racial bonus on Listen checks and Spot checks. The lens also provides it with a +a +2 bonus on Spot checks made to find or follow a creature once it has recognized and set out to pursue a specific target. A Sentinel Drone can also 'speak', in a limited capacity, delivering instructions (usually 'Halt!', 'Drop your weapons!', or some similar command) via a magic mouth effect.
