Prismatic Blade (3.5e Spell)
From D&D Wiki
|Casting time:||1 action|
|Range:||Medium (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)|
|Effect:||Sword-shaped plane of force|
|Duration:||Concentration, up to 1 round/level|
|Saving Throw:||None (see text)|
This spell brings into being a shimmering, swordlike plane of force about 3 feet long. The force is prismatic, scintillating with the colors of the rainbow. The sword strikes at any opponent within its range, as you desire, starting in the round that you cast the spell. The sword makes a melee touch attack against its designated target once each round on your turn. Its attack bonus is your base attack bonus plus your Intelligence bonus or Charisma bonus (for wizards and sorcerers, respectively).
Anything hit by the blade takes 4d6 points of damage, and is subject to prismatic effects as if struck by a prismatic spray spell (the subject saves against the effects as normal, though the DC is that of this spell). The blade threatens a critical hit on an 18-20 and is considered a +5 weapon for the purpose of bypassing damage reduction. On a successful critical hit, the target is subject to all 7 effects of the prismatic spray spell (subject saves as normal, with the DC of prismatic blade), in addition to the normal damage from the blade. The prismatic blade can pass through any magical barrier equal to or less than its spell level, but cannot penetrate dead magic areas or an antimagic field. As a force effect, it can harm ethereal and incorporeal creatures.
The blade always strikes from your direction. It does not get a bonus for flanking or help a combatant get one. If the sword goes beyond the spell range from you, if it goes out of your sight, or if you are not directing it, the sword returns to you and hovers. You may direct the blade to attack another target as a standard action. The sword cannot be attacked or harmed by physical attacks, but dispel magic, disintegrate, a Sphere of Annihilation, or a Rod of Cancellation will affect it. The sword’s touch attack AC is 13 (10, +0 size bonus, +3 deflection bonus).
If an attacked creature has spell resistance, the resistance is checked the first time prismatic sword strikes it. If the sword is successfully resisted, the spell is dispelled. If not, the sword has its normal full effect on that creature for the duration of the spell.
