Fae Enforcer[edit]

A little known fact amongst the average commoner is that the True Fae were bound away to their own plane with VERY FEW exceptions. A few Fae men and woman clung to other worlds and were extremely weakened by it thus becoming the fey know to most in the prime material plane. The binding that was used however did nothing to their followers. The purpose of a Fae Enforcer is dual, to do the bidding of the Fae court they are tied to, or to advance the Fae court they are tied to (in monetary, magical, political, or any other way). In exchange for this service the Fae court empowers their servants, much the same way gods empower their clerics. .

Making a Fae Enforcer[edit]

A Fae Enforcer can be a great NPC class but is powerful enough to be played. A Fae Enforcer usually takes the place of a bard in all but spellcasting. The primary weakness of a Fae Enforcer is it is not so much a servant as it is slave. Now while any accumulation of power the Enforcer makes can be seen as it's duty to gain power for it's court sponsor, actual orders take precedents over most everything. .

Abilities: Charisma is an absolute must for this class, as it determines most of it's abilities. Dexterity is also a great help as wearing most medium and heavy armor is barred. .

Races: While Fae Enforcers of any race have existed, Humans, half-orcs, gnomes, and halflings are by far the most common. Dwarven Enforcers are rare as their love of clan and steel tether them from outward temptations and their blunt nature makes them poorly suited for such work. Exiles make valued smiths and weapon crafters in times of war and resilient warriors. Ancient elven communities remember the days when the Fae were free to roam the planes and the destruction they brought when in conflict. Elves very rarely sign away their lives or children to service though several have been tempted by tales of the rewards the Fae bestow upon their servants. Half elves that wander adrift in society occasionally turn to servitude as a life path. .

Alignment: A Fae Enforcer’s alignment must be within one step of his Fae sponsor and neutral (that is, it may be one step away on either the lawful–chaotic axis but due to the nature of the unwavering servitude through out morally ambiguous and disturbing orders must be neutral instead of good or evil). .

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Fae Enforcer.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Fae Enforcers are proficient with all simple weapons, Light Melee, and One-Handed Melee marital weapons as well as all bows, leather, padded, hide, and splint armor, and with wooden shields. Fae Enforcers are barred from using iron (and steel by extension) in a defensive manor. .

Aura (Ex): A Fae Enforcer of a chaotic, neutral, or lawful Fae sponsor has a particularly powerful aura corresponding to the Fae sponsor alignment (see the detect evil spell for details).

Disperse (Ex): At 1st level a Fae Enforcer works for the court of their sponsor, drawing from the very power of it's existence and energy source. A Fae Enforcer may ignore the first 5 points (and 5 more each two levels) damage of it's energy type each round. The energy sources are: acid, cold, electricity or fire.

Channel (Ex): A Fae Enforcer may deal a 1D6(for ever 2 levels of Fae Enforcer) as a ranged touch attack with a range increment of 40 feet as many times per day as the Fae enforcers CHA mod (min. one). The damage type is the same as the energy type of his sponsor.

Glamour (Su): Starting at st level, a Fae Enforcer may add their Cha modifier to their AC as a misc bonus if they are not actively wearing or in major physical contact with, iron/steel.

Court Guidance (Sp): Beginning at third level and every three levels there after a Fae Enforcer may invoke a Fae by given name that it has a connection with and is of the same court as it's sponsor. This is considered a lesser planar ally that the summoned creature may only give information (and usually at a high price {EXP, items, Information, Favors automatically bound with a more powerful version of Geas/Quest).

Stability of the Fae: At eighth level A Fae Enforcer gains damage reduction 5/cold iron.

Timeless Body (Ex): After attaining 10th level, a Fae Enforcer no longer takes ability score penalties for aging and cannot be magically aged. Any penalties he may have already incurred, however, remain in place.

Fae Form (Ex): At 20th level, a Fae Enforcer has earned a place within Fae society and is granted a fey form rather than as a humanoid. Aside from the type change and all the trait it brings, the Fae Enforcer's damage reduction increases to 30/cold iron.

Ex-Fae Enforcers[edit]

A Fae Enforcer who grossly violates direct orders by his sponsor loses all class features. He cannot thereafter gain levels as a Fae Enforcer until he atones (an unusually difficult feat.

Campaign Information[edit]

Playing a Fae Enforcer[edit]

Religion: As previously mentioned a Fae Enforcer may believe in any deities existence but actual worship is strictly forbidden. Many Fae Enforcers use ones religion to determine the personality of a person but by and large they see it as anything from a social obligation to a career path. Fae Enforcers get along with a surprisingly large number of religions, understanding the reverence of the natural world while at the same time seeing the beauty and potential for personal gain of civilization. Only three things keep Fae Enforcers from peaceful existence amongst religious men and women: Firstly their response to perceived attempts at conversion tend to be erratic and violent, Secondly their continuous quest for power and support tends to set them against organized religion fighting for the same resources, and thirdly their masters are remembered by several deities who wish to hinder either fae in general or a specific court. On a case by case deal many clerics have found Fae Enforcers to be honorable if obsessed comrades.

Other Classes: Fae Enforcers value the freedom of rangers, rouges, and sorcerers. They understand the devotion of clerics and druids yet can barely believe the freedom with which they act. Fae Enforcers see bards, fighters, and barbarians as foolish flighty people who have little purpose other than to be used. Fae Enforcers are extremely weary of paladins as they are uncompromisingly set on their moral path and as such are difficult to work around. Worse still they are usually such a keystone in their society that they can't be simply removed.

Combat: Fae Enforcers combat choices change drastically depending on if they are in a group of associates (read: pawns) or solo. In sol combat a Fae Enforcer tends to ambush a target blasting with it's channel attack followed by a barrage of melee attacks when the opponents are close enough. In a group they prefer to stay back protecting the spellcasters while ordering the fighters.

Advancement: The Fae Enforcers primary goal is to serve their patrons well and reap the rewards of such actions so multiclassing before 20th level is an uncommon event. When such multiclassing is done it is usually into rouge, or sorcerer to better gain their masters power.

Fae Enforcers in the World[edit]

A long time ago my family needed a refuge. The summer court took us in, trained us, and blessed us with power. Now it is Summer's enemies who need protection.
—Kota Maelstrum, Human Fae Enforcer

Daily Life: The day to day life of the Fae Enforcer is probably the most varied of any class with the exception of rouge. A Fae Enforcer might be found doing anything from drafting laws in a city, to assassinating targets that they have been ordered to, to leading a band of raiders along a trade route,to simply building a reputation as the town barkeep.

Notables: Notable NPC's that could be Fae Enforces could be the semi-religious leader of a small town the PC's happen across, a mysterious man looking to hire a group to assist him in the claiming of an inter-planner gate, or a passing commander in an army of mercenaries giving out orders from above.

Organizations: Fae Enforcers tend not to work well with others of their own kind, preferring to instead go solo or create a band of followers. Further more the Fae themselves have learned from their attack and exile and rarely see reason to inform their servants of other Enforcers location, preferring to have mobile ignorant servants. When they are required to work together the more mobile Fae Enforcers usually are directed to meet with an Enforcer that has secured a base of operations and use it as a temporary base of operations until their mission is complete.

NPC Reactions: Few NPC's learn of Fae Enforcers, and even fewer understand them. Most see them as either delusional sorcerers, clerics to a eccentric deity, or power hungry mad men. Those that do know of them and understand them treat them wearily, knowing that a simple order would send them into combat. A good portion of those that know of them eventually allow themselves to be brought into the fold as it were, either pledging support in exchange for assistance or protection or even joining the ranks themselves. Very few non-religious reasons exist to hate or attack them but those who feel religiously compelled to do so react with extreme passion.

Fae Enforcer Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in knowledge religion, the planes, or ancient history can research Fae Enforcers and the Fae themselves to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

10 The original Fae make the currant fey look like children in comparison, handicapped children...
15 The Fae of old still have an active hand in the primary planes, but only through their servants. These servants gather power in a variety of ways, political, magical, financial. They are simply the hand that Their court uses to shape the worlds.
