Ezrael the Exsanguinated Priest (3.5e Vestige)

A vestige from the Isle of the Necromancer Kings.

Level: 7

Binding DC: 33

Special Requirement: Yes

Legend[edit]

Ezrael was a former baron of the Necromancer Kings who fell under the sway of Vermissa's Cult of the Worm, where he converted to a priest of Thasmudyan and eventually betrayed King Uruk. When his crimes were discovered, Uruk had him hung upside down and slowly drained of all his blood until he finally perished. For more information about the Necromancy Kings and the Cult of the Worm, see the 2nd Edition sourcebook, The Complete Necromancer's Handbook.

Manifestation[edit]

Ezrael appears as a ghostly image of a half-naked human male. His skin is pale white, in stark contrast to his wet, ratty hair.

Sign[edit]

Your eyes turn milky white like those of a corpse, and your skin grows pallid, as if you had recently been drained of blood.

Special Requirements[edit]

Ezrael despises three other vestiges: Acererak, Buer, and Naberius. If you have hosted one of these spirits within the last 24 hours, Ezrael refuses to answer your call. Similarly, these spirits will not answer your call if you are already bound to Ezrael.

Influence[edit]

Ezrael's influence causes you to distrust necromancers and clergymen of death-related deities, such as Kelemvor or Jergal. Whenever you enter a temple or some other religious site of such a deity, or the domicile of a known necromancer, Ezrael requires that you spit on the floor and utter an invective about the place.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Ezrael lends you some of the unique necromantic talents that he developed and possessed as a baron of the Necromancer Kings of old.

Call to the Grave (Su):  You can rebuke undead as an evil cleric of your effective binder level. After using this power to rebuke undead, you must wait 5 rounds before trying again.

Dead Man's Eyes (Su):  For the duration of your binding with Ezrael, you gain the benefits of the Lifesense feat, just as if you were an undead creature.

One Of Us (Ex):  Thanks to your heart of darkness (see below), you can pass amongst the undead unmolested. Unintelligent undead will not attack you; they recognize you as one of their own and ignore you. If you attack them, however, they will react appropriately, as will any other undead in the immediate area. Free-willed undead, such as vampires, instead have their reactions shifted one step towards friendly. This improves to two steps once your effective binder level reaches 13.

This protection only applies to you and any creatures you posses a mystical bond to (such as a familiar or animal companion), not to any companions that are with you.

If you use a disguise or illusion to appear undead, or you are showing your sign, you gain a +10 circumstance bonus on any Disguise checks you make, and free-willed undead have their reaction shifted two (or three at EBL 13) steps towards friendly rather than just one.

Heart of Darkness (Su):  Your heart is infused with a seed of undeath that helps sustain you. Negative energy (such as that of an inflict spell) heals you rather than damages you. If you are a living creature, positive energy (such as a cure spell) still heals you as well. In addition, you heal 1 point in each damaged ability score every round, and 1 point in all drained ability scores every hour. This does not stack with similar effects, such as the one granted by the vestige Naberius.

True Necromancy (Su):  You can question a corpse as though using the speak with dead spell, with a caster level equal to your effective binder level and a saving throw DC of 10 + 1/2 your effective binder level + your Cha modifier). Once you've used this power, you cannot do so again for 5 rounds.
