El Maques[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

In your true form, El Maques look like any other creature. When threaten or in danger, they can transform into a brioche which is also called El Maques. El maques are constructs that look like a fire beetle or other bugs. Its back has glued fake jewelry to increase its worth. Only a dumb person would believe that it is made of real jewelry.

History[edit]

There once was a Mayan Princess named Cuzam. Her father sought out the perfect partner for her to marry. He was a great man and she was perfectly happy with her father’s choice. One day she meets another man. Handsome and great. However, not the kind of man her father, the King, would like.

Cuzam has an affair with this man but still decides to get married. The King eventually finds out and decides to kill him. The Princess begs her father not to kill him. She confesses her love for him and how happy he’s made her.

Seeing the daughter in distraught makes the King reconsider. Therefore, he forms a new plan. He will allow Cuzam to be with that man, while she is married. However, he decides to turn this man into a jeweled beetle she can wear and take everywhere she wants. Cuzam names her new beetle, Maquech. The Maquech has jewels on its back to depict royal jewels.

Sad about her lover reduced to a bug, Cuzam seek out for a cure behind her father's back. Cuzam sneak out to the castle and into an enchanted forest. She found an old witch living in a house made of candy. Cuzam begged for the witch to undo the curse. The witch explains that the curse is very strong. She could not remove it. But she can lessen the curse by spreading it thin. If the princess agrees, she can cause the curse to be placed on her and reduce the strength of the curse by half. Without a though, Cuzam said yes. The hag created her potion and dipped an apple into it. Then she cooked the apple in a forge. The witch handed Cuzam the fresh apple. Cuzam took a bite and sealed the fate of Cuzam and her lover Maquech. The first two El Maquech was born on that day.
