Blackguard of Tyranny Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the blackguard of tyranny.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Blackguards of tyranny are proficient with all simple and martial weapons, with all types of armor (heavy, medium, and light), and with shields (except tower shields).

Aura of Evil and Law(Ex): The power of a blackguard’s aura of evil (see the detect evil spell) is equal to his and aura of law (see the detect law spell) class level.

Detect Good and Chaos (Sp): At will, a blackguard of tyranny can use detect good and chaos as a spell-like ability, simultaneously duplicating the effect of the detect good and detect chaos spells. a blackguard of tyranny can distinguish between creatures that are good, chaotic, and both with this ability.

Smite Good and Chaos (Su):

Dark Blessing (Su): A blackguard of tyranny applies his Charisma modifier as a bonus on all saving throws.

Deadly Touch (Su): Beginning at 2nd level, a blackguard of tyranny can cause wounds with a successful touch attack. Each day she can deal a total number of hit points of damage equal to her paladin level × his Charisma bonus. An opponent subjected to this attack can make a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 paladin level + paladin's Cha modifier) to halve the damage dealt. Alternatively, a paladin of tyranny can use any or all of this power to cure damage to undead creatures, just as an inflict wounds spell does. This power otherwise functions identically to the paladin's lay on hands ability.

Aura of Despair (Su): Beginning at 3rd level, a blackguard of tyranny radiates a malign aura that causes enemies within 10 feet of her to take a –2 penalty on all saving throws. This ability otherwise functions identically to the paladin's aura of courage class feature.

Dark Health (Ex): At 3rd level, a blackguard of tyranny gains immunity to all diseases, including supernatural and magical diseases.

Rebuke Undead (Su): When a blackguard of tyranny reaches 4th level, she gains the supernatural ability to rebuke undead. She may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Charisma modifier. She rebukes undead as a cleric of his own level would.

Despotism: A blackguard of tyranny can use points from his deadly touch damaging pool to produce an effect that allows him to better oppress those around him. The effective caster level for each ability is the blackguard's blackguard level.

Command (Sp): At level 4, a blackguard of tyranny may expend 4 points from his deadly touch damaging pool to use command as the spell.

Suggestion (Sp): At level 7, a blackguard of tyranny may expend 8 points from his deadly touch damaging pool to use suggestion as the spell.

Hold (Sp): At level 9, a blackguard of tyranny may expend 10 points from his deadly touch damaging pool to use hold monster as the spell.

Dominate (Sp): At level 12, a blackguard of tyranny may expend 15 points from his deadly touch damaging pool to use dominate person as the spell.

Mind Fog (Sp): At level 14, a blackguard of tyranny may expend 20 points from his deadly touch damaging pool to use mind fog as the spell.

Probe Thoughts (Sp): At level 17, a blackguard of tyranny may expend 30 points from his deadly touch damaging pool to use probe thoughts as the spell.

Identify Transgressor (Sp): At level 19, a blackguard of tyranny may expend 50 points from his deadly touch damaging pool to use identify transgressor as the spell.

Fiendish Servant (Sp): Upon or after reaching 5th level, a blackguard of tyranny can call a fiendish bat, cat, dire rat, dog, horse, pony, raven, snake, or toad to serve him. The blackguard’s servant further gains HD and special abilities based on the blackguard’s character level (see the table below).

Detect Thoughts (Sp): At level 8, a paladin of tyranny can cast detect thoughts as the spell at will.

Evil Life Force (Su): At level 18, a blackguard of tyranny treats negative positive and negative energy effects as an undead does.

The Blackguard’s Fiendish Servant[edit]

A blackguard may have only one fiendish servant at a time.

Should the blackguard’s servant die, he may call for another one after a month. The new fiendish servant has all the accumulated abilities due a servant of the blackguard’s current level.

Character Level Bonus HD Natural
Armor Adj.
Str Adj. Int Special
5th–7th +2 +1 +1 6 Empathic Link, Improved Evasion, Share Saving Throws
8th–10th +4 +3 +2 7 Speak with Blackguard, Chain of Eyes
11th–14th +6 +5 +3 8 Invisibility, Shrink
15th–20th +8 +7 +4 9 Spell resistance

Character Level: The character level of the blackguard.

Bonus HD: Extra eight-sided (d8) Hit Dice, each of which gains a Constitution modifier, as normal. Extra Hit Dice improve the servant’s base attack and base save bonuses, as normal.

Natural Armor Adj.: This is an improvement to the servant’s existing natural armor bonus.

Str Adj.: Add this figure to the servant’s Strength score.

Int: The servant’s Intelligence score. (A fiendish servant is smarter than normal animals of its kind.)

The abilities mentioned in the “Special” column of the accompanying table are described below.

Empathic Link (Su): The blackguard has an empathic link with his servant out to a distance of up to 1 mile. The blackguard cannot see through the servant’s eyes, but they can communicate empathically. Because of the limited nature of the link, only general emotional content can be communicated.

Because of the empathic link between the servant and the blackguard, the blackguard has the same connection to a place or an item that the servant does.

Improved Evasion (Ex): If the servant is subjected to an attack that normally allows a Reflex saving throw for half damage, it takes no damage on a successful saving throw and only half damage on a failed saving throw. Improved evasion is an extraordinary ability.

Share Saving Throws: For each of its saving throws, the servant uses either its own base save bonus or the blackguard’s, whichever is higher. The servant applies its own ability modifiers to saves, and it doesn’t share any other bonuses on saves that the blackguard might have.

Speak with Blackguard (Ex): If the blackguard’s character level is 13th or higher, the blackguard and servant can communicate verbally as if they were using a common language. Other creatures do not understand the communication without magical help.

Chain of Eyes (Sp): If the blackguard’s character level is 13th or higher, the blackguard can see and hear what his servant does.

Invisibility (Sp): If the blackguard’s character level is 16th or higher, his servant can use invisibility as the spell a number of times per day equal to the blackguard's charisma bonus, at a caster level equal to the black guard's level.

Shrink (Su): If the blackguard’s character level is 16th or higher, his servant can reduce it's size by one category as a standard action, or return to it's natural size as a full-round action. The familiar may reduce it's size multiple times, to a minimum of fine.

Spell Resistance (Ex): If the blackguard’s character level is 19th or higher, the servant gains spell resistance equal to the blackguard’s level + 5. To affect the servant with a spell, another spellcaster must get a result on a caster level check (1d20 + caster level) that equals or exceeds the servant’s spell resistance.
