Onchocerciasis (3.5e Disease)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search
Name: Onchocerciasis (Ex)
Infection DC: 16 (Contact, Ingestion)
Incubation: 1-2 months
Damage: Ability damage or confusion (itching), permanent blindness

Also known as "river blindness" due to the fact it can cause permanent blindness; it is the 2nd leading cause of blindness in the world today. It is generally nonfatal.

This disease is actually a parasite, which can cause the sufferer to appear as if he or she has lizard skin, or leopard skin, from the tissue damage it causes. The itching occurs when the nematoade of a black fly dies within the skin tissue. When the nematode is present in the eyes, it destroys the optical tissue and leads to blindness.

Onchocerciasis causes the PC to take 1d3 Con damage if s/he fails the save, regardless of outcome.

If the PC fails their check by more than 5 points, s/he is beset with confusion (using the variables of unusable actions as itching).

If the PC fails their check by more than 10 points, s/he is considered blind.
