The valkyrie is a female follower of Odin who has dedicated her soul to gathering those souls who are worthy for Asgard. All valkyries worship Odin and all valkyries are female. They excel in hand to hand combat as well as ranged combat. However, only those true in heart and of good nature can progress to the heights of immortality.

Valkyries are well respected by the righteous warriors of the world, and those of a darker nature tend to steer clear of them. More often then not, the valkyries who are chosen are killed by evil sorcerers and warriors while they are young; those who survive become strong warriors and fight in the name of righteousness, gathering souls for Ragnarok. They must have a strong will and a strong body to withstand some of the intense battles they will be sent into, but they will do their work gratefully and with a smile.

Lastly, valkyries tend to get along with just about anyone. They will work with chaotic aligned people if neccesary, but they prefer not to. A valkyrie will never knowingly accept help from anyone of an evil alignment, nor will she help them. Valkyries show no mercy on any evil creature and will destroy any evil foe at a chance.

Adventure: A Valkyrie's sole purpose is to gather soldiers for the final battle, Ragnarok. They may stray from the path if it is helpful in furthering the greater good (such as killing a demon prince, or taking a mad dictator out of power). After a Valkyrie has completed her quota, (as determined by Odin,) she may live her life as she wishes.

Characteristics: Valkyries are servants of Odin who look for heroes or heroines to become soldiers for Ragnarok. They follow Odin closely if they choose to become a Valkyrie, and follow in the path of destruction. More often than not, their presence in a village is seen as a bad omen, but people are always kind to them, usually out of fear or in hopes that Odin will show them favor. Valkyries tend to be charismatic and can manipulate people fairly well to get information or to gain progress. A Valkyrie is not above exploiting her feminine charms to achieve her goals.

Alignment: Valkyries tend to be Lawful Good, but may be Neutral Good. They may not be neutral or evil, and can not be chaotic.

Language: Basically Valkyries can understand "context" any language, but not the whole of the language. They fully understand language of their own race.

Religion: All Valkyries follow Odin, though they may have been chosen from a different religion. They will follow Odin's every order.

Background: Valkyries are chosen by Odin to become choosers for the final battle, Ragnarok. They follow in the wake of huge battles, or in the path of strong warriors to collect their souls. Once they have been chosen, she takes them back to Asgard and gives them to Odin for training.

Races: Valkyries can be selected from any race.

Other Classes: A Valkyrie scythe gets along with anyone who is righteous and courageous. They get along well in parties consisting of fighters, clerics, paladins, and occasionally wizards or sorcerers. Bards are strictly for entertainment to Valkyries, and they do not often deal with them.

Role: The Valkyrie's role in a party is typically combat oriented, but she can heal others when she grows in power. She has excellent social skills and can be a diplomat.

Game Rule Information[edit]

Valkyries have the following game statistics: Hit Die: d10 Special: a valkyrie who becomes chaotic, or strays from the good alignment can no longer level as a valkyrie, but she retains all of her valkyrie abilities.

Gender: a valkyrie must be a female.

Abilities: CHA is an important ability for a Valkyrie. Also, DEX and STR may be important if the player wishes to be a bow wielding Valkyrie, or STR and CON may be important if they wish to be a sword wielding Valkyrie.

Alignment: Neutral Good or Lawful Good.

Starting Age: Moderate

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Valkyrie:

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A Valkyrie gets all simple and martial weapon proficiencies. Also a Valkyrie is proficient with all armors (light, medium, and heavy), and shields (including tower shields).

Selected to be divine A Valkyrie is a follower of Odin who has been selected to become divine. As a Valkyrie, she must find fights and gather the worthy souls of those who died in battle. As a free action, a willing soul may be transported to Asgard. However, if the soul is not willing, the Valkyrie must take a full round action and make a DC 10 + 1/2 of the creatures CR (or level) to send it.

Outsider aspect: As the valkyrie grows in power, she becomes more like an outsider. At first level, a valkyrie loses it's dual nature, and when killed cannot be brought back to life by spells that restore the soul to the body, such as raise dead, reincarnate, or resurrection. At 4th level the Valkyrie gains darkvision out to 60 feet. At 7th level, the Valkyrie no longer needs to sleep or eat (although they can if the so wish).

Divine grace: As a valkyrie grows in power she is suffused with divine power much like a paladin. At 2nd level, a valkyrie gains her Charisma bonus (if any) to all saving throws.

Divine touch: With her divine power, like paladin, she can use her energy to (if positive) heal living creatures or (if negative) harm undead creatures;heal a number of HP equal to the Valkyrie's charisma modifier times her level or (if negative) to heal undead creatures . Using this energy as an attack requires a melee touch attack and the target gets a will save for half damage (DC 10 + half character level + wisdom modifier).

Divine health: At 3rd level, a valkyrie becomes immune to all diseases, magical or natural.

Detect evil: At 3rd level, a valkyrie can detect evil as a swift action, as the spell.

Might of the valkyrie: At 5th level, once per day, a valkyrie can add her Charisma bonus + her level to her attack and damage rolls at will for one round . The action must be declared before damage is dealt, and after the attack roll is made. At 9th level and every four levels thereafter, a valkyrie may use this ability once more per day.

Divine Wings: Valkyries can summon their wings for short period of time, once it activates Valkyrie's movement speed increase times by 2.

Nibelung Valesti: Once per day, while flying, Valkyries can perform their ultimate attack. You can choose one enemy from within a 20ft radius from Valkyrie, and throw divine spear from the air. It is guarantee to hit your enemy. Damage -> 1/2 level of Valkyrie + CHA modifier of d8(ex: level 15 Valkyrie with 18 CHA = 7+4 = 11d8).

Valkyrie healing: Thrice per day, at 11th level, as a move action, a valkyrie heal a person as if she were using the heal spell. Her caster level is equal to valkyrie level + her Charisma modifier (if any).

Immortality: The valkyrie becomes immune to all death effects, poisons, ceases to age, and cannot die from natural causes. However, the valkyrie can still be slain in physical or magical combat.
