Undead Paragon[edit]

Undead are a strange bunch. Intrinsically connected to the Negative Energy Plane, they are unlike any other creature. Depending on the type of undead, some have a naturally stronger connection to the energies of death, but that need not limit them in any way. As time passes, some undead find their connections growing stronger. While it may take a century or more for a simple skeletal minion to start to deepen their connection, a fully intelligent vampire or lich might undertake the strengthening of the bond from a week spent in meditation. No matter how this bond is opened, the result is the same. The undead experiences a strenthening of their existing powers, and new abilities that thrive on the strengthened Negative Energy that now inhabits their frame.

Making an Undead Paragon[edit]

Abilities: Charisma is an important ability for an Undead Paragon, as it increases the DCs of their abilities. Strength and Dexterity are also important, as they increase the Undead Paragon's combat ability, and as a result their survival ability.

Races: Obviously an Undead Paragon must be an undead, although besides that there is no particular type of undead that is more commonly an Undead Paragon. That being said, intelligent and self-aware undead are more likely to follow this path, due to being able to consciously develop the necessary bond.

Alignment: While the majority of Undead Paragons are Evil, that is more representative of the tendancy of the majority of the undead to lean toward Evil than any particular leaning from this class.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the undead paragon class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Undead paragons are proficient with all simple weapons as well as with light armor.

Energy Harness (Su): At 1st level, the Undead Paragon's planar ties harden. Any time the Undead Paragon becomes the subject of a negative energy effect or spell that would heal its HP, it gains one additional HP per die. In addition, any time the Undead Paragon becomes the subject of a positive energy effect or spell that would deal damage, it takes 1 less damage per die. If there are no dice rolled in either instance, the amount of healing/damage is changed by the Undead Paragon's Charisma modifier.

Undead Resistance (Su): The Undead Paragon gains Turn Resistance equal to its Undead Paragon class level. In addition, it adds twice its class level to any Spell Resistance it has. If it doesn't already possess any Spell Resistance, then it gains Spell Resistance equal to twice it's Undead Paragon Class Level plus it's Charisma modifier.

Negative Energy Bolster (Su): As the Undead Paragon grows in power, its ties to the Negative Energy Plane strengthen. At 2nd level, where an ability would grant a DC equal to 1/2 HD, any Undead Paragon levels would count for 1, rather than 1/2. This ability does not count for class abilities or spell effects.

Lifesight (Su): An Undead Paragon of 2nd level sees the life force of living creatures as if they were glowing lanterns. Any living creature it sees has is treated as a light source that gives off dim light in a 5 foot radius. This only applies to living creatures within 30 feet, and this light is blocked by what would block a normal light source (so a living creature that is completely encased in a hollow metal sphere would not be detectable by this ability unless there was some sort of opening to see into the sphere).

Ability Boost (Ex): At 3rd level, an Undead Paragon’s Charisma, strength, and dexterity scores increases by 4 points.

Drain Life (Sp): At the 4th level, an Undead Paragon can suck the last vestiges of life from an injured creature. When it reduces a creature to negative hit points, it can choose to activate this ability as a Free Action. This functions identically to the spell Death Knell, except that the Undead Paragon can choose which ability score to be boosted instead of Strength and it regains hit points equal to the amount of temporary hit points it gains. It can also activate this ability as a Standard Action, as normal for a Spell-Like Ability. This ability can be used 2/day.

Improved Lifesight (Su): At the 4th level, an Undead Paragon's Lifesight ability improves. It now functions at a range of 60 feet, and living creatures now give off bright light in a 5 foot radius, and dim light in a 10 foot radius.

Eager Strike (Su):at 5th level the undead paragon's eagerness gets carried away, he adds his Charisma modifier to the damage he deals with attacks.

positive energy resistance/Improved positive energy resistance (Su):at 3rd level the undead paragon's venerability to positive energy is reduced by 10 points of damage and at 5th this resistance reduces damage by 1/2.
