The Corrupted (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
"Their affliction is a trail. The weak are devoured by it. The strong transcend it."
Kor-Tel elven archmage.
"So your arm's just pure black under there?"
"Like the night."
"Do you ever scare people with it?"
"On how hard they can hit me afterwards."
-Yakob the Rogue talking with Mors the Corrupted
The Corrupted appear to be ordinary humans at first but often have entire sections of flesh where their shadow is bound. These sections of flesh are reminiscent of the darkness, both in colour and design, being described as some as a void of light. This often causes those unaware to it's existence to be shocked when revealed. As a result, when travelling outside the village, some Corrupted often cover these sections of flesh with bandages in order to hide themselves amongst normal humans, though others may not, choosing to wear their heritage proudly. Beyond this flesh of purest darkness, the Corrupted also possess unusual eyes. A Corrupted's eye colour can range from the normal blues, greens and browns, to the more unusual yellows, reds and whites. Although, having eyes with different colours is not unheard of within this species, with those that do usually having one normal coloured eye and one unusual coloured eye.
First created when an evil magician sought to weaponize the ordinary human and their own shadows were permanently bound to their flesh. In time, the magician died but his experiments lived on. Now shunned by most normal humans, they stayed at the place of their birth and remodelled it into a village for those who were also abandoned by the world. As a result, their village is closed off to most of the outside world. The Corrupted most people see today are one of two categories. Either they left the village in order to experience the outside world and protect those who cannot protect themselves, or their shadow has poisoned their mind, causing them to be forcefully removed from the only place they've ever known.
The Corrupted live the exact same lives that most humans do. They're just a little more suspicious when it comes to visitors as most consider them freaks of nature. And those that don't want to rule over nature. Needless to say, they've gotten pretty good at beating up the second group before they become a threat.
As they were once humans, most still use human names when naming their children, though some decide to give them names that relate to their heritages.
