Something About the Wording[edit]

An enhancement bonus on a spiked shield does not improve the effectiveness of a shield bash made with it, but a spiked shield can be made into a magic weapon in its own right.

The use of the word "spiked shield" implies that you don't enhance spikes by themselves, but the shield to which they're attached. It seems even more the case when compared to the wording of armor spikes:

An enhancement bonus to a suit of armor does not improve the spikes’ effectiveness, but the spikes can be made into magic weapons in their own right.

This explicitly declares that the spikes and not the armor are given the enhancement. —Sledged 13:48, 12 January 2007 (MST)

I concur. I had already changed the titling on the "spiked shield" to "shield spike" and "spiked armor" to "armor spike." That helps make it clear that it is the spike that causes the damage and gets enchanted. --Dmilewski 19:17, 12 January 2007 (MST)
That's not what I said. I'm saying according to the wording, the spikes are considered part of the shield when it comes to enhancement. The whole shield is getting enhanced, not just the spikes. It says a "spiked shield" can be made into magic weapon, not the spikes by themselves. Whereas with armor spikes it's the opposite, the spikes are getting enhanced separately from the armor. —Sledged 20:00, 12 January 2007 (MST)
