I dont understand the DC. The ring bearer's level - the creature's level? So if the ring bearer is level 1 and the creature being affected is level 10, the DC would be -9 ? That cant be whatcha mean. Maybe the DC for the Will save should be 10 + the ring bearer's level or 10 + the ring bearer's Charisma score or even 10 + level + Cha? --Chainer 18:31, 10 February 2008 (MST)

That's what I was thinking. --Penske 20:20, 10 February 2008 (MST)
I understand what you are saying, but the fear is not created by a spell. The fear is a natural reaction based on your reputation. If the DC was 10 + ring bearer's charisma score or something like that, we would have creatures that could be level 10 fearing a ring bearer of a measly level 5. It just seems like the best way to set the DC for a natural reaction. --DysfunktionalHyjinx 22:37, 11 February 2008 (MST)
Cool, I understand you wish it to be external but certainly, a DC score cannot be a negative. A level 5 character would have to have a very high Cha score to scare a level ten or circumstances would have to be greatly in his favor. The DC being (characters level - the creatures level) isnt proper. Like I stated, if the character is level 5 and the creature is level 10, it would become a -5 DC. Reputation is how others think of you. A more powerful character would be more feared. Character builds his reputation with his Charisma after all. Maybe the DC could be the 10 + character level + Charisma Modifier? Lol, I realize thats what I meant in my first post. Charisma modifier not score. Oops.--Chainer 18:45, 14 February 2008 (MST)
With that same scenario, lvl 5 character vs. lvl 10 creature, the DC would be a minimum of 11 and a maximum of 18. That would make it too difficult for the stronger creature to succeed. There needs to be something in the DC that will weaken or strengthen it depending on who it's affecting. We could try mixing the two DC calculations together:
DC 10 + (Ring Bearer's level - Creature's level) + Cha Modifier?

I know this is a way belated response, but I think you solved the problem perfectly without one :). -Chainer 16:13, 6 October 2009 (MDT)
