Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: This race is overpowered as never dying is not ok for pcs, getting any racial trait from that race is too good, this race doesn't specify how you can heal as an undead and other info about being one(eat, ignore extreme weather, ect.)

You can help D&D Wiki by better balancing the mechanics of this page. When the mechanics have been changed so that this template is no longer applicable please remove this template. If you do not understand balance please leave comments on this page's talk page before making any edits.

Revenant[edit]

Cursed, or perhaps blessed with a second chance revenants are sentient undead beings not unlike vampires. These beings are unable to rest unless their curse is removed or if they accomplish a task placed upon them either by themselves or the one who brought them back. When a revenant returns from death, it reclaims its mortal body but cursed energy runs through its body. and its eyes become blank, glowing with one solid color.

Revenant Names[edit]

Revenants replace whatever name of the body they possess with their own, from their living days. They sometimes retain their gender, even if they may take over a body not corresponding to it.

Revenant Traits[edit]

The soul of a mortal who met a cruel and undeserving fate.
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2. Two other unique ability scores of your choice increase by 1.
Age. A revenant is semi-immortal in that they do not die until their curse is removed.
Alignment. For souls with such a strong will to defy death itself that they crawl their way back into life. When deciding the alignment for your revenant consider how their death would have affected their previous alignment. Did an otherwise lawful character become mad with revenge becoming chaotic? Or maybe their chaotic nature was neutralized in their death and they become humbled. Was the crawl out of the afterlife hard or did it come easy? These are both things that should be considered when playing a character whose death affected them in such a literal way. Generally, characters will shift towards a chaotic alignment once they become revenants.
Size. Small or Medium.
Speed. 25ft if Small, 30ft if Medium.
Past Life. Choose a race other than Revenant. You gain one language proficiency and one racial trait from that race. For the purposes of this feature, you may not choose the Ability Score Increase or Subrace as your racial trait, although you may choose a trait specific to a subrace.
Undead. You count as an undead creature as well as a living creature for the sake of effects that specifically target undead; however, you have advantage on saving throws against such effects.
Undead Vitality. You have escaped death, a fact represented by the following benefits

  • If you die, you return to life 24 hours after death. If your body is destroyed, you reform within 30ft of the place of your death. If your equipment was also destroyed, you do not regain it.
  • You don't need to sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep. You can finish a long rest in 4 hours if you spend those hours in an inactive, motionless state, during which you retain consciousness.
  • You have advantage on death saving throws.

Darkvision. You have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of grey.
Languages. You can speak read and write Common
