Pernicious Overflow (5e Spell)

Upon casting this spell, you begin to well with power. As part of the same action, you can cast one spell you know or have prepared with a cast time of 1 action that grants temporary hit points to any number of creatures. The chosen spell is cast at the same spell slot level as Pernicious Overflow. You do not expend an additional spell slot to do so, but must provide any necessary components as normal.
For as long as the targets of the chosen spell has the granted temporary hit points, creatures that touch your target or land a melee attack against it take an amount of Force, Piercing, or Thunder damage equal to 4 + your spellcasting ability modifier (you choose the damage type when you cast this spell. This damage type cannot be changed unless Pernicious Overflow is cast again.)
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th or higher, the spell chosen is cast at the same spell slot level. Additionally, the damage dealt is increased by +1 per spell slot level above 4th.
