Nightbleeders (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
"In peace may you leave the shore. In love may you find the next. Safe passage on your travels until your final journey to the ground. May we meet again." -The Nightbleeder death ritual
(Author's note: This race is based on a TV show called The 100. I took a few creative liberties, so this is gonna be a lot different from what you know.)
Nightbleeders look almost exactly like humans. The only defining outward factor is that their hair tends to grow to waist length for both men and woman. They also have a unique trait, where their blood is pure black, which is the inspiration for their names. Many other races consider it a warning sign that this race is cursed. Nightbleeders, however find great pride in their blood. Stories are told that this blood is the reason why they survived.
Before the Beginning of Time
Nightbleeders claim a history that predates the existing universe. They inhabited a world much like our own, until the the world was consumed by a primordial flame, which they call “Primfaya”. Legend says that only 100 members of each of the three clans could survive in a bunker, and when they emerged, the world was reborn as it is today.
Few other races believe such tales, but the Nightbleeders insist it’s true. All historical records from so long ago were destroyed, so there is no possible way to confirm if Nightbleeders are truly from before time itself.
In times before Primfaya, the Commander, or the leader of the clans was selected by the Flame- a magic item that would kill whoever is unworthy to wield it. When one was worthy however, the Flame gave them great strength and wisdom. One commander even managed to unite the warring clans in a battle against “Mount Weather”.
After Primfaya however, the Flame was lost. The people then decided that the Commander would be selected a new way. A warrior from each of the clans would be selected to fight for the right to lead. The only way to win was to kill the other two participants and take a necklace given to them by a Flame-Bearer, the priests of the Nightbleeders.
Among the Nightbleeders are three subsets that are often at odds with each other. Even within their own clans and a Commander there are often power struggles and unclear laws. Wars are frequent and bloody, though rarely involve other races.
Despite this, Nightbleeders will all set aside their differences once a year to celebrate “Unity Day”. This is held on the anniversary of the end of the world to celebrate their shared survival. All grudges and wars are suspended for a single day as they light a large bonfire and drink around it.
