Mystic Ooze (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Mystic Oozes are the resulting forms that creatures may take on after a magical experiment gone awry. Capable of reforming themselves into forms they've observed from other creatures, these shape-shifters are unpredictable and difficult to counteract.
These Oozes tend to exhibit colors ranging in hue from purple to blue. Their bodies also seem to contain fragments of starlight within them, shown as white dots that faintly glow.
Mystic Oozes are a seemingly recent development, as only now are they being found spread well throughout the world. They are formed in freak accidents involving any magics with the potential to change one's shape, coming into the world only when the die of fate comes up low for the target being.
Mystic Oozes hold no real society of their own, being formed from other races. A usual specimen will exhibit the cultural characteristics of the being it was formed from, as that is who it still is at heart.
Mystic Ooze Names
There are no naming conventions for these Oozes, aside from the fact that they generally prefer to keep their name from before the transformation. Use any name that you wish.
Mystic Ooze Traits
As a Mystic Ooze you are a creature whose nature is one of change. This reflects in your capabilities and will be exemplified throughout your adventuring career.
Ability Score Increase. Being created from an old form and brought into this one by fickle magics, your abilities usually reflect those you once had in your previous incarnation. Use the ability score increases from the race your character was once a part of.
Age. No one knows how long these creatures live for, being a relatively recent development, but it is believed that they will turn out to be quite long-lived.
Alignment. Seeing as these beings can come from anywhere, your alignment can be whatever you please.
Size. As a Mystic Ooze your height rages from 2-4 feet tall and your size is small.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You also have a climbing and swimming speed of 20 feet.
Darkvision. Being of a mystical and somewhat bioluminescent nature, you have darkvision out to 60 feet.
Gelatinous Nature. In your Ooze shape, you can squeeze through spaces as small as 1 inch wide. You are also an Ooze as well as Humanoid.
Natural Shape. As a Mystic Ooze, your shape can change. You can even regain your original form, temporarily. Your Natural Shape is a form you have ingrained into your memory to the point it's second nature to take it on. As a bonus action you may take on the appearance you had before the incident that made you an Ooze. You may copy clothing but neither armor nor weapons. This form can last for 6 hours, afterwards you must begin making constitution saving throws every hour with a DC of (10 + hours past 6). The DC resets on a long rest. This does not count against your forms known or as a use of Shape Changer.
Shape Changer. Your nature is one of change, and this ability exemplifies that. You may take on many forms, but first you must observe them. As a reaction to a creature starting it's combat turn, you may begin observing it to learn the inner workings of such a being, and learn it's form. You must succeed on a DC 12 Investigation check for this to work. You may have a number of forms learned equaling twice your proficiency bonus at once, if you wish to gain forms past this you must forget an old one. While transformed you use the physical stats, Hit Points, and abilities of the creature. You do not gain legendary actions. You may transform as an action and can stay in that form for 1 hour, making the saves described in Natural Form for each hour after. You may have any creature you've observed memorized, but you may not transform into one whose CR exceeds your character level. Level restrictions are removed upon reaching level 20. You can use this ability a number of times per long rest equaling twice your proficiency bonus.
Chimeric Form. At 5th level, you have more versed in form changing, to the point that you may combine forms. Take the HP, Physical stats, and Abilities of two forms you have memorized and compare them. You may take the stats and capabilities that you prefer, but you may not have more abilities than the creature that has the highest number of the two. Taking on this form uses two uses of your transformations ability, can only last half as long, the saving throw to retain this form increases by 2 instead of 1, and you make the save to retain your form at disadvantage.
Unarmored Defense. You cannot wear armor, so instead you've adapted a thicker outer layer. You add your Constitution Modifier to your Armor Class in your Ooze and Natural Forms.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice. Extra languages will typically be those provided by your old race, but you may select a new one if you wish.
