Mortuum Elf (3.5e Race)

These are the elves who killed themselves and offered themselves to the God of Death. In return they gained an almost immortal body. They will remain immortal for as long as they serve and please Death. Death wants to own the souls of others, and sends out his servants to collect for him. If a Mortuum Elf kills another, the soul belongs to Death. As such, these elves are drawn to places filled with life. A vassal of entropy itself, Mortuum Elves are retain a residual amount of Death's calculative nature. Their limbs no longer flow with the vitality they were given at birth, now achieving grotesque angles with ease. They find a natural enemy in Rangers, and upon encountering one, Mortuum Elves stop at nothing to destroy them.
Mortuum elves are limited. They delight in Death, and do his bidding. They are sterile, as they have already died, so they rarely make long-term bonds with others. Most tend to be rather aloof, and stick to the shadows, fulfilling their Master's wishes out of the public eye. But those who have chosen to be part of a group get along fairly well with their peers, when forced to.
They don't take many things seriously, as dying seems to make priorities change.
When on a quest from their Master, an Elf stops at nothing to fulfill it, but when they have free time, they seem to enjoy procuring wealth and other riches through whichever means appeal to them personally. Although an Elf no longer fully understands many issues mortals have, they do comprehend how money makes everything easier.
Despite their blood-lust, given from their Maker, Mortuum Elves do not go and mercilessly slaughter everything in their paths. They pick their prey carefully, choosing the stronger and more powerful souls to deliver to their God. They rarely hunt the young of any race, and tend to leave most child-bearers alone, in order to keep populations up and alive.
They would never kill anyone in public, preferring to instead take out their prey with as little witnesses as possible, in order to keep going on, undetected.
These elves have an unhealthy pale complexion. Their hair ranges from bone white to pale yellow, and their eyes are black as night. They are slender and tall, graceful and silent as the grave. Upon their shoulders and back are glyphs and symbols that are branded in their skin. These tattoos are unique to each Mortuum elf, and bestowed upon beginning their new life. The blood that flows through their veins is as black as ink. They carry no smell, unless they are cut open. Their blood smells of rotting flesh when it is spilled.
A Mortuum Elf has difficulties relating to others. Since they have experienced death, they rarely have emotional ties to other creatures. They do not care for the suffering of others, although some rejoice in it. Their entire past life, including memories of family and friends has been mostly lost to them. Most prefer to roam alone, but others join groups for efficiency. They rarely form true bonds with others, but when they do, it is generally based on self interest. Most allies are gained through unbreakable contracts. For assisting of the patrons of Death, and by association, Death Himself, all allies gain 5 temporary hit points if they are reduced to zero, as long as the contract between the two parties is valid.
All Mortuum Elves have been warped by Death. As such, all are of Evil alignment, tending to be Chaotic or Neutral, for the Law applies to the true Living.
Mortuum Elves posses no home anymore. They wander through the lands, and only feel close to being at home when they are near, or are the cause of a death. They are drawn to lands full of life that can be snuffed out, like cities, forests, and oceans, and tend to avoid areas that lack anything that can die, like ice lands and deserts.
All worship their God and creator, Death. Every being they kill is a sacrifice to Him, in order to bring Him joy. They were made to give Death everything and anything He wants.
Mortuum Elves speak Common, Elven, and Necril.
Mortuum Elves are assigned names by Death.

- Mortuum Elves' base land speed is 30 feet:
- Low-Light Vision: A Mortuum can see twice as far as a human in conditions of poor illumination. This is an Extraordinary Ability.
- Fearless : Mortuum Elves are immune to fear, since they have nothing to fear. Only the living fear. This is an Extraordinary Ability.
- Unknown: Mortuum Elves are so rare, most people don't know anything about them. As such, only a Bardic Knowledge Check resulting in a Natural 20 can identify the race.
- Undead:As Mortuum Elves are dead, they do not require sleep or sustenance.
- Immunity to bleed, death effects, disease, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.
- Standard Elf Abilites
- +2 Racial Bonus to Bluff, Hide, Listen, Move Silently,Search, and Spot.
- Detect Undead: As an undead themselves, Mortuum Elves can cast Detect Undead at will.
