Morphling

Physical Description[edit]

Morphlings have two forms. In their animal form, they appear as a normal animal of the same type. When in humanoid form, they appear as a member of their father's race, although they lack the normal mannerisms, clothing and culture of that race.

History[edit]

When a humanoid who has been polymorphed (or wildshaped) mates with an animal of the same type they are transformed as, sometimes the result is a morphling. Morphlings are born as a normal animal of their type, but those who live to adulthood awaken to human-like sentience and gain the ability to shift into a humanoid form. This event is traumatic and horrifying and so many (perhaps most) chose to deny their potential and live their lives pretending to be simple animals. Of those who do embrace their mental and mystical powers, most become druids of the moon circle as this path fits their dual nature.

Their first nature is that of the animal they were born as and this is their true form. While they have intelligence comparable to most humanoids, they tend to have simple minds. They tend to be short-sighted, living in the now, struggle with abstract ideas and see little value in wealth or power.
