Design Note: This class is designed to be played starting from first level.

Life Illusionist[edit]

You have been sequestered in luxury and privilege all of your life. Yet you feel discontented. You know that most people live very different kinds of lives and you want to understand them. you want to put yourself in their shoes, and see what life is like for them. Your discontent has never allowed you to really pick a class. You have bounced from one teacher or master to another, never really connecting with any one class. You want to know about how the whole world works, and about the lives of the people in it. You are a couple years older than other apprentices. Your peers have all picked classes and started their advancement, but you are stuck.

Then one day you put 2 and 2 and 2 together in your mind and realize that you can use a little bit you learned from this class and a little bit you learned fro that one, and cobble a class together for yourself that will actually allow you to really be each of the kinds of people you want to experience. You have figured out how to transform yourself using a little bit learned here and a little bit learned there. At each level of advancement you change your race, class, sex, background and alignment, and as you advance you will be able to put yourself in everybody's shoes at one time or another. Illusionist is a misnomer you are a 'realityist'.

Creating a Life Illusionist[edit]


Quick Build

You can make a Life Illusionist quickly by following these suggestions. First, Constitution should be your highest ability score, followed by Intelligence. Second, choose the 'noble' background. Pick a 'royal' background if your dungeon master will allow this. Third, choose a longsword, shortbow, scale mail, and a shield.

Class Features

As a you gain the following class features.

Hit Points

Hit Dice: 1d6 per level
Hit Points at 1st Level: 6 + Constitution modifier
Hit Points at Higher Levels: 1d6 (or 4) + Constitution modifier per level after 1st

Proficiencies

Armor: light armor, medium armor, heavy armor, shield at first level
Weapons: martial and simple at first level
Tools: Thieve's tools which you may not use until ___ level or Herbalism Kit which you may use at first level
Saving Throws: Intelligence, Constitution
Skills: choose two of: insight, perception, performance

Equipment

You start with the following equipment, in addition to the equipment granted by your background:

  • (a) longsword or (b) shortsword or (c) rapier or (d) halberd
  • (a) shortbow, scalemail, and shield or (b) shortbow, scalemail, and shield

Spellcasting[edit]

You can cast spells at 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th level, but not at first, third, seventh level.

Ability Score Improvement[edit]

When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.
