Intuituve Arcane Scholar
Some people are born with magic at their fingertips. They are capable of manifesting arcane abilities spontaneously, without recourse to long hours of study & education; but that doesn't mean that they couldn't necessarily benefit from such. An intuitive arcane scholar is a character with the sorcerous talent who seeks to truly understand it, studying their own abilities in order to gain a greater mastery of their talent. Through copious research & analysis, they create their own, personal spellbook, from which they are able to diversify their casting beyond the scope of a normal sorcerer, without losing their raw power.
Making an Intuitive Arcane Scholar
The intuituve arcane scholar is an arcane caster without equal. Through study of their inherent abilities, they combine the staying power of a sorcerer with the flexibility of wizard. Though talentless in physical combat & healing, a powerful intuituve arcane scholar in the party almost guarantees that the party will dominate the mystic arts for both versatility & firepower.
Abilities: The intuituve arcane scholar requires high scores in both Charisma & Intelligence, as both are required for their casting. After that, Dexterity is useful to improve both AC & RAB.
Races: Any of the intelligent races can be an intuituve arcane scholar, though those with penalties to either Charisma or Intelligence are less suited to the role.
Starting Gold: 3d8×10 gp (135 gp).
Starting Age: Moderate (Though their abilities are a result of study, the fact that the subject of study is themselves allows Intuituve Arcane Scholars to progress faster than most acedemic classes).

Class Skills (2 + Int modifier per level, ×4 at 1st level)
All of the following are class features of the Intuituve Arcane Scholar.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Intuituve arcane scholars are proficient with Simple Weapons. They are not proficient in any Armours.
|Level||Spells in Spellbook|
Spells: An intuituve arcane scholar casts arcane spells (the same type of spells available to bards, sorcerers and wizards), which are drawn from the sorcerer/wizard spell list (see PHB, pp192-196). An arcane intuitive scholar must study his or her spellbook each day to prepare her spells known list for that day. He or She cannot prepare any spell not recorded in the spellbook.
To learn or cast a spell, an intuituve arcane scholar must have both a Charisma & Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level (10 for 0-level spells, 11 for 1st-level spells, and so forth). The DC for a saving throw against the spells of an Intuituve Arcane Scholar is 10 + the spell level + the Intuituve Arcane Scholars Intelligence or Charisma modifier, whichever is lower.
Like other spellcasters, an intuituve arcane scholar can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. The base daily spell allotment is given on the table above. In addition, he or she receives bonus spells per day if he has high Intelligence & Charisma scores (again, using the lowest modifier).
An intuituve arcane scholars selection of spells is not limited in the way a sorcerers is. Though they begin play knowing the same number of spells (four 0-level spells (also called cantrips) and two 1st-level spells of your choice), these are recorded in a spellbook, as though the character were a wizard. They may research new spells to add to their spellbook, using their Scholarly Insight ability (see below) or transcribe them from other sources through the use of their Encode Spell ability. Additionally, as the intuituve arcane scholar advances, he or she gains new spells at certain levels, as indicated on the table above. Since the intuituve arcane scholar prepares their spells known that day in advance from a spellbook, their number of spells known is not affected by ability scores.
In a way that is similar to a wizard or a cleric, an intuituve arcane scholar needs to prepare his or her spells known in advance. Unlike a wizard or cleric, once he or she has prepared their spells known for the day, any of those spells can be cast spontaneously, assuming he or she has not yet used up all the spells per day for that spell level.
Encode Spell: From 1st Level, an intuituve arcane scholar can add spells to his or her spellbook, beyond those gained through natural progression. These can be transcribed from any arcane scroll or spellbook, but the level of spells transcribed in this way may not exceed the intuituve arcane scholars maximum castable spell level.
Regardless of the spells source, the intuituve arcane scholar must first decipher the magical writing (see Arcane Magical Writings, PHB p178). He or she must spend a day studying the spell, at the end of this day, he or she must make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + spell’s level). If the check succeeds, the Intuituve Arcane Scholar understands the spell (see below). The process leaves a spellbook that was copied from unharmed, but a spell successfully understood from a magic scroll disappears from the parchment.
If the check fails, the intuituve arcane scholar cannot understand or copy the spell. He or she cannot attempt to understand that spell again until another rank in Spellcraft is gained. A spell that has failed to be understood from a scroll does not vanish from the scroll.
Once an intuituve arcane scholar understands a new spell, he or she can translate it into their personal "spell language". This language is unique to each intuituve arcane scholar (increasing the DC of attempts to decipher magic writing from the intuituve arcane scholars spellbook by other intuituve arcane scholars by 5 & by members of other arcane caster classes by 10). The process must be begun within 24 hours of understanding the spell & takes 24 hours per level of the copied spell for the intuituve arcane scholar to encode the spell into their personal language, making it available to transcribe into his or her spellbook, which takes a further 24 hours (regardless of spell level).
(Total time to use Encode Spell ability = Spell level +2 days)
Arcane Familiarity: As his power grows, the intuituve arcane scholar may switch specific spells for others with which he or she is intimately familiar. Select any one spell that is already in the intuitive arcane scholar's spellbook. That spell may be recalled at will, replacing a spell of the same level from the spells known that day list until the list is next refreshed, either through daily memorisation or the Refresh Spell List ability, below. This ability applies every time the intuitive arcane scholar gains a caster level that does not give access to a higher level of spells (levels 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 & 16). This ability also advances if the effective intuitive arcane scholar caster level is advanced through a prestige class or other method that specifies that it only applies to spells per day (and known if applicable), such as the arcane trickster.
Scholarly Insight: From third level, the intuituve arcane scholar may develop spells (from the appropriate lists) of up to one level below the highest they can cast, independently; beyond those gained through level-dependent benefits or use of the Encode Spell ability. Doing so takes one week of research per level of the spell being developed & requires an expenditure of 500 gp per week. This money goes into fees, consultants, material component experimentation and other miscellaneous expenditures. At the end of that time, the character makes a Spellcraft check (DC 10 + spell level). If that roll succeeds, the character learns the new spell & may write it into his or her spellbook (taking 24 hours, as with the final stage of Encode Spell). If the roll fails, the character must go through the research process again if he or she wants to keep trying.
Refresh Spell List: From fourth level, the intuitive arcane scholar can refresh their spell list once per day, switching out their spells known that day for others from their spellbook by spending 1 hour of study. At eighth level & every four levels thereafter, the spell list can be refreshed an additional time each day & the time required reduces by ten minutes until at twentieth level, the character can refresh their spell list at any time & requires only fifteen minutes of study.

Playing an intuitive arcane scholar
Religion: As an arcane caster, the intuitive arcane scholar is generally attracted to deities who include magic as a domain. Due to their bookish training, they are also often found worshipping gods of knowledge.
Other Classes: The intuitive arcane schoar has essentially the same needs as a sorcerer or wizard when it comes to companions, requiring close support from melee types and healing from divine casters. Their academic training generally makes them more akin to wizards, though their typically high charisma allows them to better cope in social interactions, making them less dependant on typical "face"-type classes.
