Grisean (5e Race)

Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: One of its traits makes more sense as a background feature. It also seems to be very similar to a Human Variant, granting a feat and all. Languages other than official should also be defined if they are used by a race.

If it weren’t for the church, there’d be nothing separating him from the rest of us ‘filth’.

Physical Description[edit]

Grisean Male. Art by SBee

Griseans appear as a predominantly black haired, bronze colored people, descending from the central plains of Griseos. Found almost everywhere on the continent they are the most common species found within the continent of Griseos save for that of the Igazi. With racial and cultural purity being a big plus amongst the Grisean people, many tend to find themselves falling into very strict and distinct stereotypes, rarely if ever dropping outside of them. As such lighter skintones or brighter hair-tones are rather rare amongst their people though can and certainly do exist.

Grisean society began as a number of scattered chiefdoms and petty kingdoms ruled over by roving heretic warlords and weak willed chiefs. It was from these petty kingdoms and chiefdoms that the great 'Stag Clan' rose to prominence. A small tribe located on the aptly named 'white lake' the Stag Clan were a hardy yet noble people, though small in number one amongst them would change the tide of their history. It is from this that Edmund the white was born, and he who united the Stag Clan to create the city of 'Stagwelde' which is the capital of all Grisean people. Through Edmund heresy was purged, warring tribes were united, and petty kings were subjugated. A new faith formed around Edmund known as the communion, and it was through this this faith the Girsean people united under the Communion.

Grisean society is very simple in its structure, being a feudal society mixed in with varying elements of a trade republic, though for the most part with a very theocratic core keeping strict control of most functions of their society. Everything is centered around blood and the church, with prophets and priest kings forming the peak of the nations hierarchy.
