Sorcerer Variant[edit]

Lord Dhazriel 19:54, 10 April 2008 (MDT)[edit]

Im thinking about doing a variant of the Sorcerer, Not that I think the sorcerer is under(Over)powered, I simply wish for something with more flavour or simply a bit different. Im searching for a way to give him new abilities without having to harm is spellcasting or completely change the class.--Lord Dhazriel 19:53, 10 April 2008 (MDT)

What sort of flavor do you want?

Sorcerer fortunately is very easy to reflavor, even without changing any mechanics. They make great mutants/superheros (build yourself a Storm from X-men with a slew of weather themed spells and describing its effects or reasoning behind the power as being something other than arcane voodoo). Battle Sorcerer is best for any more melee based caster. There's the Metamagic Variant which loses a familiar but gains the power to cast metamagic as a standard action, not full, and some others.

Mostly it's less about variants and more about spell selection. I could help more if I knew what you were aiming for in particular.

(Btw, leave the "Discussion:" part of your title in.)

I'm thinking a spell journal to study, copy, and create spells. Maybe accidentally blowing up stuff if it's under 18.

I'd say that the worst thing about the sorcerer is it's spell selection; it's basically a wizard with spontaneous casting. Try redoing the spell list; I've always thought of a sorcerer as someone thay hurls magic at things, so give it blasty spells. Then, apply the spell point variant for even more spontaneous casting. But don't apply it to any other class!

Of course, I personally love the spell point Sorcerer. I should one day put my Reserve Spell Known feat on the wiki. For the sorcerer variant, maybe mechanical ability depending on the heritages, I was also thinking of making specialist Sorcerer. But instead of being specialized in Necromancy or Abjuration they would be specialized in Fire or Storm, maybe even more abstract concept like Glamour. Perhaps it could work a bit like domain, but in a spontaneous way.
