Døkkálfr, Elf Subrace[edit]

Døkkálfr are considered a type of dark elf like the drow and szarkai. However, they are only dark elves in name.

Physical Description[edit]

From Warhammer

Like the shadar'kai, the døkkálfr have light skin that ranges from alabaster white to a stoney gray hue. They have black hair usually, though some have dark grey strands. While elves are known to be more graceful, the døkkálfr males have stockier, muscular bodies like that of chiseled statues. Females are much more slender and dexterous. They tend to eschew jewelry that is flashy or glamorous, preferring ornaments of black stone usually. Their faces are very polished and austere, and they are said to be beautiful in the way one sees perfect chiseled faces of stone. Thus, some call them "stone elves"

History[edit]

The døkkálfr is an elven group that reside in a great tree known as Yggdrasil. They are believed to have been touched by the powers of the earth where they reside. Having lived in subterranean areas caused their skin to grow paler than normal, but fostered a relationship with the svirfneblin and duergar. While not necessarily evil like the drow, they have a history of aggravations against the normal elves who live above. Unlike drow, the døkkálfr are not constrained by a fear of sunlight. They have numerous holdings near the mouth of openings to underground caverns where they meditate, train, and trade with the mining races. These gains are then traded to the above world in outposts. Døkkálfr have relations with the drow, and are infamous for having kidnapped some number of travelers to sell as slaves.

Society[edit]

The døkkálfr form swarthy, dark looking settlements at the mouth of places like the Underdark caverns, where they sometimes lure travelers. These are important holdings as they serve as a gateway between all of the dark and light, above and below. On one end, the døkkálfr are in partnership with the dark races of the Underdark like drow and duergar. On the other, they are able to pass off in societies above ground, much like the szarkai can. They are known to be crafty, industrious, and vengeful. Unlike the drow and their senses prone to evil, the døkkálfr are more neutral and prefer to do as they please. Some subscribe to the drowic goddess Lolth, while others living in human or elven society worship other deities. It has been said døkkálfr have been seen among shadovar humans and shadar'kai in Shadowfell even.

Døkkálfr Names[edit]

Often times the naming of these beings are done by affiliation with where they were born, events of their birth, or even thoughts of the parents at the time. These names do not follow the ever-popular, gender-based naming tradition done by most humanoid races.
