Core Conscience[edit]

"Some mistakes will follow you back and will grow beyond your control."

Physical Description[edit]

You appear as nothing more than a pile of floating rocks. Maybe held together with vines or some kind of magic. However your core thumbs a soft color of your choice deep within the rocks. Core Consciences usually decide to develop a humanoid structure.

History[edit]

Core Conscience is a race of sentient stone beings. They form after a failed enchantment on a rune or a gemstone has lied dormant after being thrown away for hundreds of years. After this, the weave forms intelligence in the stone. The creature can then reach out and influence the world around it. Pulling in stones to form a body that they can use to walk out and explore the world in search of knowledge.

Core Conscience Names[edit]

As you are just a small failed magic experiment, you are gender-less.

Names: They take the first thing they are called as their name or someone names them. Examples include: Dependable, Persistent, Brave, Dumb, Practical, Etc.

Core Conscience Traits[edit]

You are a small failed enchantment, with dreams bigger than your own.
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2
Age. Your maximum lifespan is unknown for a Core Conscience. You live until your magical energy subsides.
Alignment. Core Conscience is influenced by their creator, their alignment is based on the original purpose of the enchantment on the core. However, they usually tend toward neutral and can develop a personality separate from their core or name.
Size. Core Conscience varies widely in height and build. Your size is determined by the Boulder Stack trait.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Sight. You have tremor sense of 60 feet as you do not have eyes.
Living Stone. You are a creature made of a variety of stones and enchantments. Your creature type is Construct instead of Humanoid. As such, spells like cure wounds don't affect you. You are immune to poison damage, being poisoned, and diseases. You do not need to eat or breathe, and any food you do attempt to eat falls because you do not have a mouth. Rather than sleeping, you enter an inactive state for 4 hours each day. You do not dream in this state; you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal. You can perceive your surroundings without relying on sight within a specific radius. You have a tremor sense range of 60 feet but are blind beyond this radius. You are incapacitated while in the area of an anti-magic field. If targeted by dispel magic, you must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against the caster's spell save DC or fall unconscious for 1 minute.
Boulder Stack. Your true body consists of a magic core surrounded by enchanted stones. Due to how you are constructed you can't be easily damaged, at the point of your creation, your unarmored AC is 14. However, you cannot equip normal armor, you need to spend about 5 times the normal cost to create an adapted version of the armor and this substitutes your bolder stack armor, you can't benefit from the AC increase by any shield. When you start your size is small and your height ranges from 1'5" to 3'5". You can with an action touch the remains of a defeated Golem, when you do so, part of the defeated Golems body becomes yours, you regain 1d20 + your constitution modifier hit points, if the Golem is at least one size larger than you, you can choose to not regain any hit points to increases your size by one category. You cannot exceed large in size categories. As you increase in size you become easier to hit. As you are small you have a +1 to your AC, the medium is +0, and large is -1 to your AC.

As your existence is defined by your core, you do not need your body to live. You can be removed from your body and transported around as just the core. When you drop to 0 hit points you can heal your self with a free action at the cost of decrease your size category by one and gain a number of hit points equal to your Constitution modifier. You lose this ability if your Size Category is Small. While being just a core you classify as tiny, your AC is 10, and if anyone hits you, the attack counts as a critical hit.
Slip Form. As your form is just enchanted rock floating around of your core, you are able to change the format of your body, with an action you can mold your body into one of these forms or return to your natural mold:

  • Bulk Form: The enchanted stones around your core get more clustered, your natural speed becomes 20fts but you gain +2 AC. While in this form you can't use the dash, dodge, or disengage action.
  • Warrior Form: The enchanted stones that make up your arms shift into a weapon of your choice, the weapon will scale with your size and will gain 1d4 for each Size Category above Small, you also become one Size Category smaller.
  • Ape Form: You start to walk like a gorilla or another ape, you now use your arms to go faster, your natural speed becomes 35fts, you gain climbing speed equals to your movement speed and you do not need to make an athletics check to grab the roof.
  • Quadruped Form: You become a quadruped, your speed becomes 45fts, you can also carry up to three creatures the same size as you or smaller and can use the Dash action as a bonus action. However, in this form, you forfeit your ability to use your hands in lieu of using them as hooves making you unable to use any item that requires the use of hands to function.



Stone Fists. Your fists are essentially rocks. Because of this you are proficient with unarmed strikes and can deal 1d6 + your Strength modifier with bludgeoning damage for a normal unarmed strike.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, as well as the language of your creator. Given that Golems are often created by powerful spellcasters, the exotic languages of magic such as Draconic or Primordial are commonly known by them.
Subrace. Runic, Gemstone

Runic Core[edit]

You are the product of a failed attempt at a rune smithed item. Your core is made of an enchantable metal with a rune inscribed onto it. The rune that was made in an attempt to enchant an item is your core. Due to the latent magical energy of this core, your sentience was created.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.
One with Magic. You are proficient in Arcana and the magical arts due to your heritage.
Unstable Magic. You have latent magical energy within you. Once per long rest you may send out a pulse, forcing all creatures withing a 10-foot sphere to succeed a wisdom saving throw against a save equal to 8 + Constitution + Proficiency. On a successful save nothing happens, however, on a failed to save they take 3d4 force damage.

Gemstone Core[edit]

You were made of a failed attempt at a gemstone enchantment. You are made of a gem of your choosing and that is the core. Due to the latent magical energy on this gem, you form a strong bond and bind your sentience to this gem. This is you, you are the core.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.
One with Nature. You are proficient with Nature thanks to your heritage.
Gemstone Magic. Your core being made of a gemstone gives you one of the following abilities based on the gem used. This choice determines the gem that makes your core.

Emerald You can cast Haste at will once per long rest
Garnet You know mending
Jet You can cast Darkness at will once per long rest
Peridot You can never be lost
Ruby You know prestidigitation
Sapphire You cast Create or Destroy water at will once per long rest
Topaz You know the light cantrip without verbal or somatic components
