Cloak of the Night Bird (3.5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Cloak of the Night Bird: This cloak allows the wearer to transform into a mallenoctus. There are three different types, each one allowing the wearer to transform into a different type of mallenoctus. The Lesser Cloak of the Night Bird allows the wearer to transform into a juvenile mallenoctus for three hours and is usable once a day. It is dark grey and costs 10,000 gp. The Cloak of the Night Bird allows the wearer to transform into an adult mallenoctus for four hours and is usable three times a day. It is black with gold streaks, just like the bird, and costs 25,000 gp. The Greater Cloak of the Night Bird allows the wearer to transform into an elder mallenoctus for six hours and is usable four times a day. This looks just like the normal Cloak, but the gold streaks are larger and more vibrant. This costs 40,000 gp. Any user who is in the bird form and reaches the end of the time for that use may use another charge to stay in that form without ever turning back or using a turn. If they reach the end of that time while they are asleep, it automatically uses another charge ton continue. Thus, a user of the Greater Cloak of the Night Bird may remain an elder mallenoctus uninterrupted for as long as he or she wishes. Additionally, anyone capable of creating a Cloak of the Night Bird or Greater Cloak of the Night Bird is also capable of upgrading a lower version. This service usually costs slightly more than the difference between the two, but not much more as creating any higher version requires first the creation of the lower version and then upgrading.
