Celestial Chorister[edit]

Music is well said to be the speech of angels.
—Thomas Carlyle

It is often the goal of performers to inspire and uplift the spirits of those they entertain with their arts. For a rare few, their audience can spread beyond the material plane to mesmerize the senses of powerful extraplanar creatures. When beings of a celestial nature encounter bards of such skill, they often see it as their moral obligation to guide them upon the path of virtue and righteousness. Those blessed performers are bestowed with magnificent gifts so that they may spread good will and merciful acts among their fellows.

Becoming a Celestial Chorister[edit]

Celestial Choristers are incapable of actively seeking access to this class. Those who seek this power are universally declared unfit to wield it, as it displays a certain selfishness the celestial patrons disapprove of. Rather, members of this class are chosen because of their acts and, occasionally, faith. Though there are many celestial choristers that possess levels in divine-spellcasting or martial classes, such as clerics or paladins, the majority are secular individuals who act from their own moral compass, not the guidance of a deity.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Celestial Chorister.

Spellcasting: At each level, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in the bard class. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained.

Bardic Knowledge (Ex): A celestial chorister continues to collect odds bits of lore and information that bards acquire. You can add your abyssal artist level to your bard levels when making a bardic knowledge check. In addition, abyssal artists have unique and exclusive dealings with extraplanar creatures. When making a bardic knowledge check that involves their patron's home plane, you gain a +4 bonus on the check.

Bardic Music: The influence of the celestial chorister's patron drives them to further pursue their bardic repertoire. These effects function just as the bardic music effects described in the Player's Handbook. Each use of a celestial chorister song expends one daily use of the character's bardic music ability unless otherwise noted in the song description. An celestial chorister adds her class level to her bard level to determine her number of daily uses of bardic music.

Song of Heavenly Audience(Su): An celestial chorister of 2nd level or higher with at least 10 ranks in a perform skill can perform with such fervor and skill that a servant of their patron is called forth to witness it. As a full round action, she can expend a daily use of bardic music to summon 1d4 lantern archons. The summoned creatures act immediately on her turn and follows her orders to the best of its ability. The creatures remain on the material plane so long as she maintains concentration on her bardic music. As her ranks in Perform increase, more powerful creatures can find themselves captivated. With 13 ranks, she can instead summon a trumpet archon. With 16 ranks, she can summon an astral deva. With 19 ranks, she can summon a planetar.

Song of Sacred Healing(Su): A celestial chorister of 6th level or higher with at least 14 ranks in a Perform skill can infuse herself or a target creature within 30 feet with restorative energy. The celestial chorister makes a Perform check and the target is healed for the amount of the check. Furthermore, she can utilize her bardic music to restore damage beyond mere hitpoints. With a DC 25 check, 1d4 points of ability damage can be restored. With a DC 35 check, 1d4 negative levels can be removed. If an undead creature is targeted with this ability, they take damage equal to the amount to be healed, with a Will save (DC 10 + celestial chorister level + Cha) for half. Using this ability requires a standard action.

Song of Patron's Favor(Su): An abyssal artist of 10th level with at least 18 ranks in a Perform skill has impressed their patron enough to be granted access to their patron's own power. By expending 3 daily uses of bardic music, she can emulate a spell-like ability possessed by her patron. The ability emulated follows the same daily use restrictions as the creature possessing the ability. The caster level and save DCs are calculated as though they were being cast by the abyssal artist. If the ability would normally require an XP cost, the celestial chorister must pay the XP cost. Use of this ability does not impact the patron's abilities in any way.

Sacred Grace (Su): At level 3, through repeated contact and support from an otherworldly patron, celestial choristers unconsciously generate an aura of peace and tranquility. Allied creatures within 30 ft of the celestial chorister gain a +2 divine bonus to Charisma-based skills. In addition, healing abilities that target creatures within the aura's radius are treated as being cast at +1 caster level. These bonus's increase at level 6 and 9, as noted on the chart.

Ex-Celestial Chorister[edit]

A celestial chorister who becomes evil-aligned or willfully commits an evil act may not progress any farther in levels as a celestial chorister. She regains her advancement potential if she atones for her violations (see the atonement spell description), as appropriate.
