To avoid locking this page for edit warring, take into consideration the following:
*Since the diopsid can at least speak, they are not barred from fulfilling verbal components of spells. Thus this would not bar them from spellcaster classes. The reading and writing thing is kind of disadvantageous but it can be an alternate way to show how dumb something is without ability score decreases. The lore also corroborates this
*"Free action" is 4e terminology. You can just say "with no action necessary." For something like short-ranged luminescence, I don't think that's a horrible balance.
*Note: The extra arms might need some extra caveats. While it does say it supports the other arms, there is nothing stopping them from holding weapons on their own really. It needs to be properly stated if the support arms themselves can or cannot use shields and weapons on their own. Ignoring two-handed also lets the diopsid dual-wield two greatswords at a time. You should amend it so it has similar constraints like the Marilith (5e Race).--Yanied (talk) 14:43, 20 November 2020 (MST)

Conditions have been set on how the lower arms can be used. Since greatswords are not light they cannot normally be dual-wielded in an attack, although two weapons can still be held just like other races can do. I didn't consider though that the Dual Wielder feat would let a diopsid dual-wield greatswords in combat. That's now been fixed. --CookieLink (talk) 16:20, 20 November 2020 (MST)
CookieLinkhttps://www.dandwiki.com/w/index.php?title=Diopsid_(5e_Race)&diff=1407241Diopsid (5e Race)2020-11-20T23:15:09Z
CookieLink:

Diopsids are creatures from the Underdark that resemble a large humanoid beetle. They are typically over six feet tall with six limbs. They use their strong back limbs as legs to walk upright. Their front limbs are highly developed and are used as arms to carry objects and attack, with their weaker middle limbs acting as additional support for their "arms" when holding anything heavy or bulky. A diopsid's eyes consist of two immobile stalks on the sides of their head, ending with a large, multifaceted red eye on each. Their beetle-like bodies makes it impossible for diopsids to wear conventional armor, however they make up for this with their tough exoskeletons. Diopsids also have small wings on their backs. While these are too small to allow flight, they do allow a diopsid to float down to the ground when falling.

History
Very little is known of the history of the diopsids, especially since they have no form of written communication to record any historical events. They are known to be survivors, able to endure the wild and dangerous lands of the Underdark. Their settlements tend to be stone towers built into the sides of caverns. Over time, the corridors and rooms of a settlement can stretch up to reach a cavern's roof.

Society
Diopsids live deep below the earth in large caverns, carving out their settlements into the walls and floors of their lands. While they have a love of metal weapons and objects, diopsids lack any means of creating these items. Due to this, they tend to work as laborers, scouts and mercenaries for other races. Diopsids tend to get along well with other races, seeing them as potential employers for their mercenary skills. Diopsids are known as being dependable and will work for almost anyone who will meet their asking price. They can be quite opportunistic too when it comes to metal weapons and tools. They are seen as tough and strong by other races of the Underdark.

Diopsids have their own simple set of beliefs that people from the surface sometimes find amusing. Diopsids worship the goddess Diophia, their patron guardian and creator. They do have an unusual theory about the surface world. Diopsids see the world above as a terrible place filled with monsters, danger and peril. The ground slopes high into the sky to inconceivable heights, the earth is eternally battered by endless deluges of water and the air slashes at anything that dares travel up there. Any diopsid who ventures to the surface is seen to be a brave and mighty hero.

The native language of the diopsids consists of flashes of light which they create from glands in their own bodies. The code created by the speed, length and intensity of the flashes then forms words. Diopsids have no system of writing, however when needed they can speak Common and Undercommon to communicate with other races.

Diopsid Names
Diopsids do not have names that can be spoken in Common, as their native language involves patterns of flashes of light. When in the presence of other species, they tend to use nicknames given to them by other people although diopsids do not remain attached to their nicknames can care little for them.

====Spellcasting====

At 1st level you get the ability to use the mystic arts granted to you by your Celestial Bond.

Your arcane research and the magic bestowed on you by your patron have given you facility with spells.

Cantrips

You know four cantrips of your choice from the Moonlord spell list. You learn additional moonlord cantrips of your choice at higher levels, as shown in the Cantrips Known column of the Moonlord table.

Spell Slots

The Moonlord table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these moonlord spells, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.
For example, if you know the 1st-level spell burning hands and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast burning hands using either slot.

Spells Known of 1st Level and Higher

The table above shows how many spell slots you have to cast spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all expended slots when you finish a long rest.

You prepare the list of moonlord spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the moonlord spell list. When you do so, choose a number of spells equal to your Charisma modifier + your moonlord level (min. 1 spell). These must be of a level for which you have spell slots. You may change your list of prepared spells whenever you finish a long rest; doing so requires 1 minute of meditation per spell level of the chosen the spells.

Spellcasting Ability

Charisma is your spellcasting ability for your moonlord spells, so you use your Charisma whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Charisma modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a moonlord spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier

Spellcasting Focus

You can use an arcane focus as a spellcasting focus for your moonlord spells.

Angel Heart
At 2nd level you gain the ability to heal one creature of your choice as an action. The amount of hit points restored is equal to 1d10+Moonlord level. You can’t use this ability again until after a short or long rest.

Edens
At 3rd level you gain the ability to augment your spells to be more effective. You do this by using a bonus action to spend an Eden point to double the spell's range, at level 9 you can double the duration of a spell, and at level 15 you can double your spellcasting modifier when you cast a spell. Once you use up all your charges, you regain all charges after a short or long rest.

Celestial Bonds
At 1st level, you chose a bond. Choose between The Deva, The Planetar, or The Fallen, all detailed at the end of the class description. Your choice grants you features at 3rd and again at 9th and 15th levels.

Ability Score Increase
When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.

Lunar Blast
At 6th level, as an action, you gain the ability to send out a sphere of energy up to a range of 30 feet. It then explodes and every creature within a range of a 20ft circle takes 1d8 radiant damage. It increases by 1d8 at 9th level and 13th levels. At 19th level it does 4d10 radiant damage. You can’t use this ability again until after a short or long rest.

Soul Bond
At 17th level you and your Celestial have become attuned and you have gained almost immortality. You age only 1 year for every 10 years. You are immune to disease. You can also use an action to heal yourself 1d10 + your proficiency bonus. You can only use this ability once per short or long rest.

Broken Chains
At 20th level you and your Celestial are permanently bonded and you now have the ability to explode in a wave of righteous fury (20 feet radius range) and deal 4d12 lightning damage and 1d10 radiant damage. You can only use this ability once per long rest.

Celestial Bonds
The angels that have bonded with you are mysterious. Who knows why they have done this? Understanding? Boredom? Amusement? No one can really say besides the Celestial themselves. But good luck getting that out of them.

The Deva
The Deva is the steward of the gods. The job of this Celestial is to keep track of the mortal world. So these angels are already more accustomed to the mortal way of life then the others. They are also some of the luckiest Celestials.

;

Because of your bonding with the Deva, steward of the gods. Your Intelligence has increased by 2.

;

Starting at 3rd level, the bond that you share with the luckiest Celestial has given you a natural enhanced luck. If you fail on a saving throw you may reroll it and use whichever result is higher. This must be done before the effects of the save results occur. You may use this ability a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier, needing a long rest to restore all expenses uses.

;

Starting at 9th level, as an action you can make an attempt to cast the spell mass cure wounds on your allies. The Dungeon Master rolls a percentile, if get higher than 33%, it succeeds, though if it gets under, you take one hit die of damage to yourself. You can’t use this ability again until after a short or long rest.

;

Starting at 15th level you can use a bonus action to give control to the Deva for an entire 2 rounds of combat. All your attacks do an extra +3 to hit and on damage. After you regain control, the Dungeon Master rolls a percentile if it’s between 1-30% nothing happens and your fine, 31-70% you are blinded and deafened until the start of your next turn, 71-100% you fall unconscious for 1 round. You can’t use this ability again until after a long rest.

The Planetar
The Planetar are the warrior champion of the Celestail world. They fight demons and help mortals with missions and quests of heroic nature.

;

Due to the Bond with the warrior angel, your Strength score has increased by 2.

;

Starting at 3rd level, around demons and undead you deal passive 1d6 radiant damage per round.

;

Starting at 9th level, you can summon a version of Mage Hand that when it attacks does 1d12 radiant damage. The spellcasting ability for this is Strength. You can’t use this ability again until after a short or long rest.

Starting at 15th level, you can unleash a blast of radiant damage that deals 4d12,if used against an undead or demon double the damage instead you can only use this feature once every short or long rest.

The Fallen
The Fallen are a group of angels who betrayed the Celestials and were banished from their realm. They use dark magic and the relationship with them is more like a Warlock and their patron as opposed to friends.

;

After the bonding with The Fallen you’ve become more charismatic. Your Charisma increases by 2.

;

Multiple Heads. The eel hydra has five heads. While it has more than one head, the eel hydra has advantage on saving throws against being blinded, charmed, deafened, frightened, stunned, and knocked unconscious.
Whenever the eel hydra takes 25 or more damage in a single turn, one of its heads dies. If all its heads die, the hydra dies.
At the end of its turn, it grows two heads for each of its heads that died since its last turn, unless it has taken fire damage since its last turn. The eel hydra regains 12 hit points for each head regrown in this way.

Reactive Heads. For each head the eel hydra has beyond one, it gets an extra reaction that can be used only for opportunity attacks.
If both the eel hydra and the attacking creature are underwater, then the range is increased to 10ft. and the creature takes the damage weather they hit or miss. This does not stack with the additional lightning damage from the eel hydra's Bite ability.
