Valknyr (3.5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
[edit] History
Valknyr is a weapon of wingle heritage, a spear with powerful magics instilled in it. It was forged to "protect the legacy" of the wingle Elder Maegwyn's descendants, but fell away from this intended use eventually. Valknyr was put to use soon after its forging: concerned for the misuse if Valknyr and Syuveil(a sword of powerful magics), Maegwyn dueled her elder brother Hal to first blood; this was the only time a wielder of Valknyr was defeated in fair combat and the only non-lethal blow Syuveil ever dealt. Having lost, Maegwyn pierced the ground with Valknyr and The Cloudland rose up; Maegwyn boarded it and the two weapons were separated. In the time after the fateful duel, Valknyr was used more for its magical properties, affecting the weather to aid the growth of crops and make a peaceful environment for the inhabitants of The Cloudland. After Maegwyn assumed leadership of the wingles, Valknyr became a symbol of the royal house, and of power.
After a failed assassination attempt, a wingle princess fled The Cloudland in possession of Valknyr. Early tales of her travels often feature a timely strike from Valknyr saving some unfortunate person from a perilous situation, or driving away an implacable foe. The princess- simply known as Red currently- wields Valknyr like a fragment of her steely determination, at times merciless but always quick and agile. Red has hinted that Valknyr has a mind of its own, and that sometimes she is acting under its compulsion.
