5e armor template

Improvised Armor (5e Equipment) doesn't have a numerical value for its cost, so it displays "— gp" on its page due to the template code. I propose replacing the {{{cost}}} gp with {{{cost}}}{{#iferror:{{#expr:{{{cost}}}+1}}||<nowiki/> gp}}, which only adds the "gp" unit when the cost parameter is a number (incidentally, this also allows people to use things like "5 sp" without having it render as "5 sp gp"). —Proton[talk] 16:07, 1 February 2015 (MST)

Done, good call, thanks. Marasmusine (talk) 16:25, 1 February 2015 (MST)

Vobria

Hey Marasmusine, I hope this is a good way to contact you. I wanted to ask you something concerning some races I wanted to make. I played Council of Wyrms, which is a 2e D&D campaign setting where the PCs play as dragons, and I wanted to create feral dragon races for 5e on this wiki. I planned on using Council of Wyrms as a guide and placing them under the homebrew section for "Races". However, I wanted to ask if there are any dragon races that already exist for 5e, which would make my creating them redundant. I haven't found any, but I wanted to ask anyway. If there aren't any, is the "Races" tab the correct place to put them? I'm still new to the wiki but I've been wanting to get more involved, so any help here would be greatly appreciated. --Vobria (talk) 01:12, 21 September 2015 (MDT)

Sorry to intrude, but there is no dragon race for 5e; however, I am also planing to make a dragon race, so if you want to work together then just call me. Again sorry to intrude on your conversation. Azernath (talk) 10:04, 21 September 2015 (MDT)

Azernath

Hi Marasmusine, i got a problem and i need help if you are free please call me in my user Talk, i would be greatful for everything and by the way Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. :) Azernath (talk) 22:30, 7 January 2015 (MST)
Thanks Marasmusine it is real good, now i just have to fill it with stuff. By the way i made a Discussion about Warfare Combat And New Large Battlefield System, if you have an idea about it just tell me or leave it there. :) Azernath (talk) 02:19, 8 January 2015 (MST)

Hi Marasmusine, i got a question to you, should i make the Wraith Knight class as a single path class like the 3.5e or a class with multiple paths similar to the 5e class? Azernath (talk) 13:21, 10 January 2015 (MST)

5e classes should have different archetypes to pick from. I advise looking at folklore and mythology to see if anything fits your concept. It could be that a "wraith knight" itself could be an archetype of a broader trope. Marasmusine (talk) 16:25, 10 January 2015 (MST)

Hi Marasmusine, I made a new Archetypes called Gladiator, Oath of Inquisition, Blademaster What do you think? Azernath (talk) 22:26, 24 February 2015 (MS

I'm still not sure where you're going with the blademaster, but I've left some feedback on the gladiator talk page. Marasmusine (talk) 01:30, 25 February 2015 (MST)

Hi Marasmusine, I have a question what do you think a Spellbreaker (5e Archetype) should be? a cleric, a fighter, a paladin, or a sorcerer? Azernath (talk) 10:32, 13 April 2015 (MDT)

Sounds like a ranger who has specialized in hunting wizards. Marasmusine (talk) 14:11, 13 April 2015 (MDT)

True, but I was thinking of a Sorcerer born as a spellbreaker because of the sorcery point can be used with a created ability to prevent spells.

P.S. I found a good reference to the Spellbreaker in Spellbreaker (3.5e Class). Azernath (talk) 18:39, 13 April 2015 (MDT)

Sorcerer archetypes represent sources of magic, so not sure what form this would take as an archetype. You could simply make a feat that adds new Metamagic options (counterspell etc) Marasmusine (talk) 01:26, 14 April 2015 (MDT)

I don't know how, so can you give me an example? Azernath (talk) 22:26, 14 April 2015 (MDT)

I'm thinking something like Spellbreaking Metamagic (5e Feat). Marasmusine (talk) 02:06, 15 April 2015 (MDT)

Hey Marasmusine, I got a question. How do we treat magical weapons on creatures? and what effect do they have on the Challenge Rate? The Creature is Pathiel (5e Creature). Azernath (talk) 01:58, 21 April 2015 (MDT)

It's in the DMG p. 281. Giving a creature magic weapons does not effect the CR. Marasmusine (talk) 02:08, 21 April 2015 (MDT)
But what about the damage bonuses? do I add them when calculate Challenge Rate? Azernath (talk) 21:02, 21 April 2015 (MDT)
Yep! Marasmusine (talk) 01:26, 22 April 2015 (MDT)
Thanks. Azernath (talk) 04:15, 22 April 2015 (MDT)

Hey Marasmusine, I made some changes in the Spellbreaker (5e Archetype), I know it is somewhat overpowered, but it is just a basic thing. Azernath (talk) 01:50, 1 May 2015 (MDT)

Dear Marasmusine, do great people think alike? or are we being robbed by Wizards of West Coast? Look at this and tell me what you think, they have a lot of the thing that we make here. :) Azernath (talk) 10:17, 12 May 2015 (MDT)

I think that an official minotaur and a storm sorcerer were inevitable! The minotaur is good in that it gives some "official" wording for natural weapons, and including the bond is interesting (I was thinking of doing something similar for by manticore race/class) Marasmusine (talk) 12:26, 12 May 2015 (MDT)

I got a problem with the Hammer of the Lightbringer (5e Equipment), it is an artifact but it is showed in the magical item. Can you help me? Azernath (talk) 17:40, 18 May 2015 (MDT)

I got a race that I need an experts eye for the Orc (5e Race), can you help? Azernath (talk) 02:29, 30 May 2015 (MDT)

I hate to disturb you once again, but I found out that the creatures Template doesn't have the choise to add Saving Throws to the creature. If I was able I would have fixed it, but I am not allowed, so can you help me? Azernath (talk) 11:41, 1 June 2015 (MDT)

A glaring omission indeed. Try now, use the field "|saves=". Marasmusine (talk) 16:42, 1 June 2015 (MDT)

I was wandering how input the Pack Tactics ability have one a monster CR like the Armored Ogre (5e Creature). Azernath (talk) 14:16, 13 July 2015 (MDT)

According to the DMG (did you check first? :) Pack Tactics (and I guess by extension anything that gives advantage on attack rolls quite often) increases the effective attack bonus by 1 when calculating offensive CR.
So for your armored ogre, the expected attack bonus is +6, and the effective attack bonus is +9 (+8 and +1 for pack tactics). This doesn't change the Offensive CR that we calculated before. Marasmusine (talk) 03:49, 14 July 2015 (MDT)

Hi Marasmusine, I need with calculating CR with these creatures: Armored Ogre (5e Creature), Young Phoenix (5e Creature), Shieldman (5e Creature), Enchanted Chain (5e Creature), and Armed Sentinel (5e Creature). The last two are for the D&D Wiki Magazine/Issue 2. Azernath (talk) 17:05, 3 August 2015 (MDT)

It will be a pleasure, I should have time tomorrow. Marasmusine (talk) 17:06, 3 August 2015 (MDT)

Sorry to annoy you, but I have trouble with the overlord spells known and I can't figure it out. Can you help me? Azernath (talk) 22:02, 20 August 2015 (MDT)

It seems that I keep annoy you with problems which I hate to do, but I have an Artifact that is counted as a magical weapon it is Gorehowl. It also have an interesting feature called Orcish Heritage that I want your I opinion with, not including that I almost finish with the Inquisitor class if you want to double check it. Azernath (talk) 11:13, 3 September 2015 (MDT)

I look forwards to looking at them, my main computer is away for repair at the moment, but I'll try and make time. Marasmusine (talk) 15:00, 3 September 2015 (MDT)

Hey Marasmusine, I just want your opinion on a creature that I intend to make which is a mixture of the Zerg from Starcraft and the Tyranids from Warhammer 40k, so my question is should I make a either them for my Campaign, or should I make creatures that is closer to D&D mechanics. Azernath (talk) 10:46, 29 September 2015 (MDT)

Hi Marasmusine, the War Griffon (5e Creature) armor table doesn't work, can you help me with that? Azernath (talk) 00:24, 9 October 2015 (MDT)

Hey Marasmusine, I was wondering how to add few forgotten stuff for the 5e SRD. Any idea help? --Azernath (talk) 18:28, 2 October 2016 (MDT)

Lord Artificer

Hello Marasmusine! Thank you for helping move my Prestige Class Lord Artificer to the correct location. May I know how to do that? I have a few things that I need to create and sort to the proper location. Thank you!

Hi, you should be able to see a "move" tab above the page (after "history") Marasmusine (talk) 04:49, 20 February 2015 (MST)

Chatter

Simply put, I like making things with your input. So, as such, I'm curious if you'd be interested in helping with this.--Kydo (talk) 08:42, 29 January 2015 (MST)

I'll take a look and comment on the talk page there! Marasmusine (talk) 09:02, 29 January 2015 (MST)

Just stopping by to say this is FREAKING AWESOME!--Kydo (talk) 13:55, 5 February 2015 (MST)

Suggestions for it are welcome! Marasmusine (talk) 13:57, 5 February 2015 (MST)

I am concerned that my less pragmatic and more abstract submissions have a tendency to induce debates. My lack of social grace doesn't help much. Is there any way I could submit these types of creations without causing a mess or misunderstanding? Some way of denoting that the creation is about playing with game rules directly, more than role playing. Different types of people play the game differently. My group spends a lot of time playing with the game itself, and I know we aren't the only ones out there. I'd like to share the things we've had fun with. Kydo (talk) 21:24, 14 May 2015 (MDT)

The way I see it, if something is suitable to be dropped into anyone's 5e campaign (from newbie DMs to veterans) then it can go into "gen pop". If something needs an unusual interpretation (or variation) of the rules or is otherwise expermiental then alternatives are making a Supplement, Variant Rule or just downright Other. With regards scissor sword, I think it's fine where it is, you're right in that the Light and Heavy tags aren't mutually exclusive, mechanically it's valid, but looks like people are going to struggle with it conceptually. I anticipate future WotC material that says "you can also do X with light/heavy weapons" that might further break the concept. But until then it's fine. At your option you can make a supplement ("Interesting Things To Do With Weapon Tags" or something - if you add [[Category:Supplement]] to the page it's not listed in 5e Weapons) Marasmusine (talk) 04:52, 15 May 2015 (MDT)
None of that quite matches up to what I'm doing though. There is no unusual rules interpretation, nor am I changing any rules or constructing a new gaming environment. The type of creation I'm talking about depends on different priorities: D&D as a game rather than an experience, setting, or story. It requires no special rules or unique interpretation, and is based on vanilla rules and content. It's the gamist player agenda as expressed by a DM. I'd also like to actually share my ideas; putting them in a category which prevents them from being displayed kind of acts against that. I had an idea on how I'd like to handle it here. Tell me what you think. Kydo (talk) 19:04, 18 May 2015 (MDT)

How does one make the generated lists of other pages from categories on those pages? I've been looking at the source and I can't quite figure out what it all means. How do you get information from a page, like name, weapon damage, etc. to display on another page? Is there a guide on how to properly make these lists, templates, and other such technical features? Kydo (talk) 09:20, 16 May 2015 (MDT)

There's no guide! Look at the source for 5e Weapons and copy the first table, adjusting the |category and |notcategory fields as appropriate (give your pages a category unique to your supplement). The line that gets information from a page is |include, you tell it what fields to get from what template. Marasmusine (talk) 01:31, 17 May 2015 (MDT)
Thanks.Kydo (talk) 19:04, 18 May 2015 (MDT)

Prospector

Thank you for your help in balancing the prospector background. I really do aprreciate your help.

Rokoran

RE: Coding Help - thank you for the offer, Marasmusine. At the moment I'm borrowing code from established pages and editing it to fit (which is very useful for learning how it works), so I don't think I'm going to have too much trouble in the short term. Once I start messing around with the more complex formatting, however, I might take you up on that. It won't be any time soon, though. Rokoran (talk) 10:28, 4 January 2015 (MST)

Hobbicatt

Hello to you too Marasmusine, I apologize for doing that, I thought that I had changed the 'patience' power, but of course I did not. Otherwise, what other mistakes do you see in the Hobbicatt (4e Race)? Beside the terminology...Feel free to put it on the Hobbicatt (4e Race) page. 17:32, 14 December 2014 (EST)

Thanks, I put a few notes on the talk page. Marasmusine (talk) 10:56, 15 December 2014 (MST)

Bakakaze

hello Marasmusine. I apologize but i ran into your weapon enhancement Reinforced (3.5e Equipment) and noticed it was empty. AT first i was going to note it for deletion, however the name sparked an idea and I ran with it. I completed the item but realized i had probably messed-up a work in progress. If you wish to change it please tell me and will post my work under another name. --Bakakaze (talk) 15:40, 27 December 2014 (MST)

That's wierd, I don't remember starting that or why! I don't really make 3.5e stuff. Maybe I was testing a new template. I like what you did with it though! Marasmusine (talk) 01:53, 28 December 2014 (MST)

Balthazar

Hi Mara. I had a question for you about image files. I've been using outside links for most of my images but recently I've found that you can upload files directly on the Wiki. I'm still new to this, so I don't know which introduction/tutorial covers this. Could you possibly point me in the right direction? Thanks! --Balthazar (talk) 19:27, 6 April 2015 (MDT)

In a nutshell: You can upload an image if you have the copyright holder's permission (as I did with the Crypt Thing image on the main page), or if the image has a copyleft license (such as Creative Commons), or if it is in the public domain. Download the image to your computer. Then you go to Special:Upload, use "browse" to select the file on your computer. In the "summary", say who the artist is and what the license is. Special:Upload also tells you how to include the image in an article. Hope that helps! Marasmusine (talk) 01:02, 7 April 2015 (MDT)

Thanks! --Balthazar (talk) 04:46, 7 April 2015 (MDT)

Are there any 5e rules on multiple limbs? I know there where some in 3.5 and 4 but I'm not entirely sure how to balance it in 5. For now I'm using the two weapon fighting rules (off hand weapons only, attacks after initial do not gain any modifiers unless negative) but I don't think that's enough to balance it... --Balthazar (talk) 06:50, 10 April 2015 (MDT)

It's always hard, since classes always assume that the race is humanoid. How many attacks should a four-armed monk get? The mind boggles. Should a four-armed fighter be allowed to wield two two-handed weapons? Yikes. I don't recall anything in 4e handling it particluarly well, but I was quite pleased with Quadrone for modrons. I will have a think about it and possibly get back to you. Marasmusine (talk) 15:52, 10 April 2015 (MDT)

Thanks. 4 attacks every turn regardless of adding modifiers or not seemed pretty insane. But at the same time I was drawn to it cause it does make really cool sounding races. Too bad cool doesn't always mean practical... Oh, I also started editing some of the races in the 5e "needs improvement" races. I still need to fill in the random height/weight table for the Elf Orc but besides that I tried to fix the formatting issues and missing background/flavor. Won't be perfect but hopefully more readable. I was wondering if I'm allowed to do that, esspessially if the authors don't respond to messages. Sorry for adding to the stack of questions I've seem to keep piling here. Thanks! --Balthazar (talk) 16:00, 10 April 2015 (MDT)

5e spell template

The portion of {{5e Spell}} that outputs, for example, “2nd-level transmutation” incorrectly uses an – (–) instead of a hyphen. My inner typographer would be happy if you could fix that ♥. —Proton[talk] 01:29, 17 April 2015 (MDT)

Thanks for catching that, I've fixed it, Marasmusine (talk) 01:59, 17 April 2015 (MDT)

just wondering...

But did you forget about This? --Crazyabe (talk) 21:48, 28 April 2015 (MDT)

Hi, yes, but I've basically moved on to 5e now. It does look like I fixed most of it last March, seems to be in a usable state. The description, encounter and lore needs improving. Marasmusine (talk) 00:53, 29 April 2015 (MDT)

Wow (relaunched)

Thanks for pointing that out about the images, I'm new to his kind of wiki's :).--Atesh (talk) 04:02, 2 May 2015 (MDT)

Why not improve World of Warcraft (3.5e Campaign Setting) instead, since the framework is already there? Marasmusine (talk) 04:55, 4 October 2015 (MDT)

-I didn't want to touch someone else his work, even though the setting was abandoned. Besides it would probably take more time to inventory evething he did instead of just rewriting the hole thing. --Atesh (talk) 12:55, 9 October 2015 (MDT)

I see how it is

Going and locking pages originally authored by me so that I can no longer edit them :P

On a more serious note, I have been contemplating requesting administrator permissions for the purposes of code-monkeying (I've done this on a couple other wikis as well). Do you have any recommendations for the best way to go about this? —Proton[talk] 10:14, 11 May 2015 (MDT)

Aye, sorry, your creation has become more important than you :) Someone made an edit (that they did revert) but there's potential there to wreck a lot of pages. I would RfA you, but I'm a bit uncomfortable doing that immediately after the close of Azernath's RfA. You can RfA yourself or ask Green Dragon directly. Marasmusine (talk) 14:35, 11 May 2015 (MDT)

Sā Race

Hello

I had a question relating to my post on the Sā race in the 5e homebrew custom races section. You marked it as needing help with the wording, but in the past you have corrected my usage of different terms (HP, hit points, health points) to "health." Is this wrong? How should I refer to the number that represents how healthy a character is?

Also, I understand there is some confusion around the extra damage system, but I'm not sure how to word it such that it is apparent that you decide how many points of health[?] (if any) before making any attack rolls or casting any spells. I re-worked it a little bit, but I'm not sure how to be clearer about this. If you have any suggestions, please tell me. If not, however, I don't feel it's entirely fair to relegate the page to the "unfinished" section merely for this reason.

I'll reply on the talk page. Marasmusine (talk) 02:28, 12 May 2015 (MDT)

Publishing Question

What program are you using to put together Homebrew? --Calidore Chase (talk) 03:25, 5 June 2015 (MDT)

Word 2013. Marasmusine (talk) 12:25, 5 June 2015 (MDT)
Thanks! --Calidore Chase (talk) 02:50, 9 June 2015 (MDT)

Deleting Pages

You deleted multiple of my pages, right as I was reaching out and receiving permission from the right people. I got permission on at least half of them and the other half I am discussing with. But thanks for deleting, you know don't ask me anything

I did wait a few days after our discussion before I started removing them. This is quite generous considering I could have deleted them straight away without any warning.
Let's go through the images I deleted and you tell me which ones you got permission from.
File:Firroth.jpg, File:Deadlock2.jpg, File:Duke2.jpg - did you get permission from Wizards of the Coast?
File:Aurae.jpg - did you get permission from Joshua Guglielmo?
File:Racen.jpg - did you get permission from Paizo (or Jason Engle)?
File:Armored ogre.png - I replaced this with an external link to the Dragon Age wiki
File:Deadlock.jpg - did you get permission from Electronic Arts or LucasArts?
File:Duke.jpg - did you get permission from Nexon?
File:Savior.jpg - did you get permission from Hellstern?
File:Zinnath2.png - although the original image is under Creative Commons, we need permission to use this modified (i.e. cropped) image; or you can replace it with a copy of the original unmodified image.
For the half that you got permissions for, please provide for me the relevant communication and I'll reupload the image for you. Marasmusine (talk) 01:57, 21 June 2015 (MDT)
Since all of the pages were deleted (except one) I just decided to remove them from the campaign because I deleted the pictures off of my laptop already
Well, if you're sure, it's a shame if you've gone to the effort of getting permission. Anyway, for the new images you are uploading, don't forget to credit the artist and license its under. Marasmusine (talk) 01:34, 22 June 2015 (MDT)
I actually made these using Mando Maker.
That's fine, just add a link to the site then. Marasmusine (talk) 10:49, 22 June 2015 (MDT)

Thank you for fixing the Psionbolt spell page!

I noticed that you fixed the name of a spell. Thanks! Silly me forgot to make a name before doing so, that's why it was called "Add Spell..."

For future reference, is it possible for me to change the name of a page I created, or does that require a special permission?

(I am finally getting around to adding the spells for the Psion class I added a while back.)

You should have a "move" tab above the page that will let you rename - for a normal user this will always leave a redirect behind, though (in this case the admin "delete & move" was better) Happy editing. Marasmusine (talk) 03:06, 24 June 2015 (MDT)
Thanks! The move tab might not be too bad, as I can leave a link to the new page in classes and races that I make in the future, which is what I will be doing for my Psion.

OGL Licensing and Pathfinder

Boo!
Word up, my meaningful Marasmusine. I just read your issue on BD's talk page, an' noticed you wanted to delete File:Neothelid.jpg under copyright because it's from Pathfinder. As far as I done can make out, the Neolithid picture is from the Pathfinder Bestiary, which is published under OGL. As such, I was under the impression we could republish it o'er proper license notification, much like my dear PFSRD. Am I wrong in this understanding? --SgtLion (talk) 05:51, 15 July 2015 (MDT)

I took a closer look at the credits in the book, and it says (emphasis mine):
"Product Identity: The following items are hereby identified as Product Identity, as defined in the Open Game License version 1.0a, Section 1(e), and are not Open Content: All trademarks, registered trademarks, proper names (characters, deities, etc.), dialogue, plots, storylines, locations, characters, artwork, and trade dress. Marasmusine (talk) 06:18, 15 July 2015 (MDT)
Cor blimey guv'na, adminnin' this place requires a cod 'n hammed lawyer's degree. Thanks for the quick update. --SgtLion (talk) 06:33, 15 July 2015 (MDT)
<bangs gavel> Case dismissed. Marasmusine (talk) 06:48, 15 July 2015 (MDT)

D&D Wiki Magazine Contributions

Mornin Marasmusine, Ixidor here. I'm really interested in your magazine! My contribution to this site mostly revolves around Dominaria, the campaign setting I've been creating and running for 13 years and wiki-ing for 3. I have some experience writing articles and more podcasting (roll20.net), but nothing significant. I haven't read your magazines yet (as I'm at work) but I plan on it tonight. In any case, let me know if you need a staff writer or columnist! I can whip up a sample if you need, or we can talk philosophies. If you need me to cut teeth editing articles or helping out more with site cleanup I'll pay my dues there, I'm easy. In any case, I look foreword to talking to you about this. --Ixidor (talk) 11:09, 21 July 2015 (MDT)

I do need a staff writer or columnist! It will be easier to discuss once you've looked through issue 1, but generally speaking you can write anything you like that fits the theme of the issue. If you are intimate with 3.5e, that's a big help, because I drifted away from it as new editions came out - I need a sub-editor who can go through the 3.5e submissions and makes sure things like magic item creation costs are OK; and correcting common terminology/grammar errors.
On a personal note I'm always interested in podcasts. I used to listen to Radio Free Hommlet, The Tome, and Critical Hit. Currently I'm listening to The Adventure Zone. Can you hook me up with any more? Marasmusine (talk) 10:35, 21 July 2015 (MDT)
Hey! I got a chance to look through the Magazine and it's pretty slick. I'm absolutely intimate with 3.5e and I'll start taking a look through the articles y'all have pegged for this issue. Magic item creation isn't specifically my forte but I can check balance against like items, grammar, and formatting. I'll be more useful in depth on future subjects. Do you plan on incorporating more writing outside the wiki articles uploaded into the magazine? I love the compendium of new rules and items but opinion pieces, advice, or techniques from other gamers would be great! Which segues into podcasts haha. I was part of roll2confirm for the last 5 episodes or so before a wedding (buddy number 1), college (buddy number 2), and pilot training (me) got in the way for about a year or so. We're trying to re-light the flame but I'll ask Bud 1 if I can get the episodes for you. The old site is saved as a squarespace but not currently available except to him. --Ixidor (talk) 21:36, 21 July 2015 (MDT)
Our old episodes were about an hour long and we got a peak of 375 or so unique hits in a day on the old site. We're planning on shifting to an easier to digest 30 minute slate, and our comeback episode is probably going to be on "Building a Better Bad Guy". I'll keep you informed. --Ixidor (talk) 21:40, 21 July 2015 (MDT)
I can include any piece of writing that has a copyleft license. Marasmusine (talk) 01:07, 22 July 2015 (MDT)
Oh awesome! Well I'll keep that in mind for future magazines. I'll get to work on editing/sorting. 15:29, 22 July 2015 (MDT)

Fu'Ara Race

Hello, Marasmusine! I really must say thank you (and a huge sorry!) for helping me to fix up that huge blunder of a race I made. I'm not sure if it's any better as of now, having removed the "subraces" (thank you for confirming my doubts on these!) and fixed the rest where I could, but I really hope that it's worthy of your approval now. Please point out if there's any additional faults or inconsistencies that clash with the D&D, let alone 5e, rules and I'll try to rectify it as soon as I can. I'm not sure if the "base damage" effect makes sense now after adding additional notes to the Lore/Physical Description, and I'll just remove it if you find it more convenient, but I hope you didn't find my idea for a race too Mary Sue or bland. Thank you for all your hard work, and sorry for adding to that load! --Fablefang (talk) 06:38, 6 August 2015 (MDT)

Thanks Fablefang, I'll take a closer look ASAP. Marasmusine (talk) 10:56, 6 August 2015 (MDT)

Runepriest Class (Incorrect Formatting?)

I wrote the Runepriest class and it has an incorrect formatting label thing. I fixed up the spell names into italics. But any runes with durations have specified durations. Otherwise their effect is instantaneous (such as those dealing direct, one-time damage). Also the range and other specifics of the runecasting are specified in class features, such as runecasting, improved runecasting, and advanced runecasting (caster's space, then up to 30 feet).

If the format errors are now 'up to code', may the header thing be removed?

--D'Artagnan (talk) 21:33, 13 August 2015 (MDT)

Hi, thanks for improving the formatting. Class feature headers still need doing, I've done the first couple for you. As for durations, here's a secret. All those PHB spells that have a duration of "1 minute", that's code for the DM meaning "this spell lasts for one combat encounter" (since they shouldn't last longer than 10 rounds). For combat encounter purposes 2, 3 or 5 minutes are the same as 1 minute. Similarly, 10 minutes is shorthand for one "exploration turn". It's all to help the group focus on the narrative rather than round-counting. Marasmusine (talk) 00:53, 14 August 2015 (MDT)

--Cool, I got the hang of headers now. It took me a while, but thanks. And I like the bit about the durations. At tables I played at, game-to-real time has varied a lot, so I was slow to understand just how long an in-game minute is. I changed many of the rune's durations accordingly. Runes meant to last less than a lengthy encounter but longer than a round I made 30 seconds. For those I wanted to last longer than an exploration turn, they last an hour or so. --D'Artagnan (talk) 09:08, 14 August 2015 (MDT)

Oki doki. In my opinion anything that removes round-counting is good, I wonder if the more-than-1-round-but-less-than-one-full-encounter effects could expire on a die roll instead. Like each turn you roll d6 and the effect ends on a 5 or 6. This is similar to spells that end when a target eventually passes a saving throw. Marasmusine (talk) 09:41, 14 August 2015 (MDT)

--considering nothing else in 5e (as far as I know) follows a mechanic like this, it might be a bit wonky to implement, especially since it's already a new class as it is. --D'Artagnan (talk) 00:01, 17 August 2015 (MDT)

Well, it's a bit like a monster's recharge but you're rolling to see if an effects ends rather than recharges. This is within the philosophy of 5e which deliberately avoids durations of "2 rounds" or "3 rounds" (4e avoided this also). "2 rounds" doesn't break the game, but it does make me bristle when I see it :) Marasmusine (talk) 01:05, 17 August 2015 (MDT)

Why Does My Creation Suck?

So I must ask you, why try and delete my campaign setting when clearly it's a work in progress? I will try my best not to sound rude, but why be a jerk about it and basically mark my setting for deletion with the reasons basically concluding to "you and your whole imagination suck". I understand that is not what you said, but the explanation is very vague and reading that your setting is being proposed for deletion for the sole reason of someone not liking an unfinished world. I will admit that updates have not been frequent recently and my only excuse is that my computer went down months ago and could not connect to the internet with the machine. This leads to little updates because usually I update my setting from that very same computer which has a lot of finished and unfinished Notepad files that would be copy and pasted onto the site when my computer is fixed. Now I know you might be thinking;" If it's been broken for months why have you not fixed it by now?" Well truth be told I'm not a wealthy person. In fact I'm fairly poor. Only recently have I even had the ability to even think about fixing my computer. (Hopefully sometime soon I'll be ordering the part needed) and I'll be back to updating the setting. Now if there is any other reason aside from infrequent updates to delete my page...you know, like my ideas suck. How about letting me know how to improve upon work and not shut me down? If you insist on deleting my world let me know and give me some time to bring a flash drive to my friends and back up my work so that I might store it elsewhere... But honestly just telling someone their creation sucks and no other explanation aside from its bland and unfinished (which is fairly clear... I understand there's not a lot of content, you know, due to the whole not being finished part). Again I apologize if I seem rude in any way, but reading what I took as "you and your world suck" without any signs of trying to assist me to help improve the setting is kind of a jerk move in my humble opinion.

Also, I apologize if this is kinda repetitious, it's late and I'm not exactly pleased.

Thank you for your time, -DismalDIRGE

 • I put the notification up after months of inactivity (January), and noticed it was started over 2 years ago and still had not enough content to be playable. So I was prepared that this was going to be its state.
 • My exact comment was "Very scrappy, with no history, geography, adventure; everything else is generic." "Scrappy" means there were lots of placeholders and redlinks. "Generic" means that I could not see a hook that distinguished the campaign. "no history, geography, adventure" is a factual statement. One less of these and I would have marked it as abandoned instead.
 • If you're back to work on it, that's great, you did the right thing in removing the notification, I look forward to seeing how the campaign improves.
 • I accept your apology. Marasmusine (talk) 01:31, 20 August 2015 (MDT)

Thank you for responding and explaining everything. Reading back on this I realize I may have sounded a little rash. I apologize again for that. I hope to get to work and posting content again within the next week or two as I now have an income sufficient enough to fix everything that needs to be fixed for my computer. I hope to continue working and re-working religion in the setting as many things have changed since the last time I was able to post. With that I hope that everything will look a little more fleshed out. Also with the updates to religion and the gods I can collect the notes I have for the history of Valshock and help fill the world out. If you have any suggestions as how to meet any requirements so as this whole situation can be less of an issue, I would be very eager to read up on how to do that since when I started creating the setting I was going in slightly blind but full of ambition. I remember I searched around on the site to get an idea of which direction I should take but any advice would be helpful.

Again, thank you for your time, -DismalDIRGE

A lot of campaigns have reams of history and geography and deities, but no hook (what is happening "on the ground" as it were). My advice is to include one or more of: 1) A couple of story hooks (e.g. the party are at such and such a place, these are the adventure opportunities and here's what's going on); 2) an adventure (even if it's a mini-adventure with three encounters); 3) even just a couple of example encounters; 4) What are the general themes of the campaign / why is it different to a vanilla D&D experience?
I hope that helps! Marasmusine (talk) 03:41, 21 August 2015 (MDT)
Oh in terms of adding the notes you have, just start adding the pages. Make sure "(Valshock Supplement)" is in the title, and "Category:Valshock SettingCategory:Supplement" is at the bottom. An alternate approach is to have the supplemental pages as sub-pages instead, which I tried at Rebelstar (4e Campaign Setting), the advantage is that at the top you always get a link back to the campaign page. Marasmusine (talk) 03:45, 21 August 2015 (MDT)

Hey Marasmusine, I plan on almost completely reworking the Valshock setting when it comes to what is viewable on the D&D wiki. In terms of a hook that might grab peoples attention and make everything a little different, what would you think about the world completely being ripped apart due to Aetherious (The mother goddess of my setting) being killed? I ask your opinion so as to see if that would be a good idea to start showing people that this setting is indeed different. This simple idea has opened up many ideas in terms of adventures not to mention how each faction deals with this struggle. If the idea of the world being literally ripped apart and the balance of power within the heavens being disrupted is not the type of hook you are suggesting, would you mind telling me what you'd like to see?

-DismalDIRGE

That sounds fine, you now have a theme of post-apocalypse. While I can't say how unique it might be (what exactly happened, in my head I'm imagining the goddess falling out of the sky and the impact rending the earth in twain) that's enough to be interesting. In terms of hooks you could for example in the character creation section you can ask players to think about how the event affected them (if it was recent), that then helps the DM craft the story. My dear Pathfinder, she wants to grow up!

Yo yo, chills, props, diggin's and salutations, as always. I'm just lookin' for some helpful opinioniation. The dear PFSRD/Pathfinder Homebrew I've been trying to cook up be growing slowly, it was a while ago when Hooper put the seed in my head that it could go 'public' as soon as its sorta usable. I was wondering if you had any essentials I should tick off before pitching the sidebar inclusion of 'em to GD (I'm guessing it only really makes sense to show both of 'em at once) - Especially as you've basically been a large part of 5e stuff, I figure you'd know better what it needs to start bein' functional and let people contribute. --SgtLion (talk) 11:09, 7 September 2015 (MDT)

Well, with the 5e, I think we plugged it in as soon as we had a top-level page and then I made it up as we went along. Some of the homebrew subpages need editing to remove some 3.5e homebrew categories (e.g. at Pathfinder Complex Special Ability Components you can remove leechmastery and mysteries and whatever else isn't in Pathfinder) Marasmusine (talk) 13:47, 7 September 2015 (MDT)
Simple enough, I guess. Nice one on the old categorymajiggies, I forgot 'bout that. Thankee kindly. -SgtLion (talk) 06:56, 8 September 2015 (MDT)

Detective Lion, Private Eye

Hiya - I know we at dandwiki with hawkeyes are few, just hoping to get an extra pair of eyes watching out for any more of this - All those reverts I just did were by an IP Special:Contribs/107.167.126.96 or very similar (.100, .97 etc.). Somehow snuck like 30 article breaking edits under the radar, the silly person. Scary times. --SgtLion (talk) 11:15, 16 September 2015 (MDT)

Acknowledged! Marasmusine (talk) 11:45, 16 September 2015 (MDT)

Special Column Table Formatting

For your information, it has not been chosen to use the "most recent" 3.5e Special column formatting in the table. See also Help:Standards and Formatting (DnD Guideline)#When to Capitalize. If you have been making these changes please stop unless we discuss this formatting. --Green Dragon (talk) 01:11, 17 September 2015 (MDT)

I'm not sure what you mean. Marasmusine (talk) 11:45, 17 September 2015 (MDT)
On the Illusionary Weapons Master (3.5e Prestige Class) you made a change (diff) stating "lower case for feature names in tables". This is true in the most recent WotC 3.5e publications. However, D&D Wiki did not implement that since there was almost a new table formatting every 3.5e publication over time (as I am certain that you know). Thus, Help:Standards and Formatting (DnD Guideline)#When to Capitalize states that "Special abilities in the "Special" column of class tables1 (Wild Shape, Uncanny Dodge, Improved Evasion)". I am saying that if we want to use the most recent WotC 3.5e publication then we need to make the intervention in the guidelines rather than intervening ad-hoc. See also the superscript note. Does this help make the situation more understandable, or I am still confusing you? --Green Dragon (talk) 14:54, 17 September 2015 (MDT)
Well I know what it's about now, but I'm still a little confused. I was going by the formatting in my First Printing 3.5e PHB, so how recent is "most recent"? Even the 3.0 SRD uses lower case for class feature names in the class table, when was it ever capitalized? Marasmusine (talk) 15:10, 17 September 2015 (MDT)
This was the case when Druid (Evaluational Base Class Layout) was worked on, or shortly before I believe. --Green Dragon (talk) 08:56, 29 September 2015 (MDT)
So the discussion is at Talk:Druid (Evaluational Base Class Layout)/Capitalized Abilities in Tables?. This was before my time, and before 5e (which presumably the discussion does not cover; 5e also uses lower-case style [i.e. table entries are not titles, and class feature names are not proper names]). I would like a revote. Marasmusine (talk) 11:02, 29 September 2015 (MDT)

Help with OP monsters

Hey Maramusine, could you check out one of my monsters and check if it's too strong. I want it to be mind-control themed but it seems a bit OP. the monster is the Cloud Eagle King at Cloud Eagles, I am soon planning to take him up multiple levels to fit with my adventure so be cautious of that. --GhaladronOG (talk) 02:10, 23 September 2015 (MDT)

Hi, I take a look then reply on the talk page. Marasmusine (talk) 03:44, 23 September 2015 (MDT)

Recover deleted pages

Hi Maramusine, could you recovery the page of Superior Training feat?

Hello, I've moved it to your user page. I'll leave it up for a few days to give you chance to copy it. Marasmusine (talk) 16:22, 25 September 2015 (MDT)

Castles and Heraldry

Hi! I've responded to your post on my talk page. I've also tried to go through and add some of my content to the Issue 3 page, unfortunately I'm in the field right now and do not have access to any of my notes, notebooks, books, etc. I won't be back for a couple of weeks... I'll try to add some stuff off the top of my head, but I'm working 12+hour days.for the next couple weeks. --Calidore Chase (talk) 05:37, 27 September 2015 (MDT)

Navigation Question

I was hoping for some help...

I would like to post a link to my Cross-Class Archetypes (5e Variant Rule) page on the 5e Archetypes page. Since the Cross-class-archetypes is technically a variant rule, I don't know if this is allowed. If it is allowed, I know editing a main page like that could cause a lot of trouble if I did it wrong, so I thought I would ask you for permission/assistance. --Entropicscholar (talk) 06:17, 29 September 2015 (MDT)

I added it to the 5e Archetypes list under the section "Other" (below the class lists, but above the incomplete archetypes) Marasmusine (talk) 03:10, 29 September 2015 (MDT)
Thankyou. --Entropicscholar (talk) 23:32, 29 September 2015 (MDT)
