Greetings!

Greetings Marasmusine,

I have quite a query here, but firstly, greetings once again. When I first posted content on here, just over a year ago now, you were the first to welcome me. And numerous bits of content, you have provided highly valuable feedback and advice. Both of which, I wish to thank you for. I rather love this site, and have directly many folks to the pages here for reference and ideas, though I've always given the stipulation of balance checking before bringing something into play.

Recently I came across the reddit page related to this site, where another member of the site was asking for assistance and comments on the improvement on this site, which I thought was an amazing outreach to the community at large. The changes I've been seeing since, and reading through the discussion pages about them, has been very inspiring. On this note, I would very much love to assist in whatever way I can, however I can.

I've been playing D&D for 15+ years, a DM and player both, and numerous players of mine have since gone on to start their own D&D groups. I'm a highly analytical person, and I enjoy delving into the comparisons between the various editions, their styles, goals, and flavors of use.

I love 5e for its simplicity, it's shift from a player dominated 'rules heavy'system to the more DM friendly rules lite style, and the emphasis on decision making and roleplay rather than hard rules.

I'm an avid homebrewer for 5e, and have posted a few pieces of content on this site so far (feats, spells, and classes), though I have -much- more currently at my table, and I would love to be deeper involved in providing content for your site.

I'm an avid homebrew developer, having made hundreds of magical items, classes, races, monsters. I enjoy converting old edition content to 5e, providing re-flavoring on existing content, and in making new content entirely.

My question is, how would I go about becoming further involved in contributions to this site?--Kahz (talk) 05:19, 8 October 2016 (MDT)

Hello, thank-you for the message. Here are some ways you can help:
  • Be a gnome. Gnomes tinker away under the ground, making small (often repetitive) changes. This is unglamorous but important work. There are pages pages with only maintenance categories, there are Special:UncategorizedPages, Abandoned pages, and pages with Wording Issues.
  • Be an elf. Elves are trailblazers, scouting the edges of the known wiki. Patrolling Special:RecentChanges will reveal new users to welcome, new content to review, and trolls to report back to HQ.
  • Be a dwarf. Dwarves love to craft. Upload your content! But please note that you release your content under a free documentation license.
  • Be a halfling. Halflings like to collaborate with others. Some great works are too vast for one person alone. There are 5e Campaign Settings that are eternally works in progress. You could pick up an abandoned setting, or ask the author of a "live" setting if they need help. I have two on the go: Spelljammer and Doom that I would gladly accept help with.
  • Be a human. Humans are overambitious. We are currently putting together the 4th issue of the D&D wiki magazine but there's a bottleneck while I wait for material to be collated and assessed. This is largely with the 3.5e stuff - but if there's enough 5e material I might make it a 5e-only issue.
  • Don't be a troll. Marasmusine (talk) 01:38, 8 October 2016 (MDT)
Thanks for the reply!
Quite fluffy descriptions of tasks :) I may involve in several of these aspects, though I must say that while I am quite the intrepid dwarf, I seem to be part gnome and human :) Dwgnoman?
When it comes to posting content and the GNU Free Documentation License 1.3, how would this impact on content on the DMsGuild site? I ask, because I'm currently putting together multiple PDF's with the goal for sale there, and while I understand -their- requirements, restrictions, and allowed use regarding intellectual property (which is obviously restricted in usage outside of that medium), I am not sure how any original content I post here would impact later being posted there as well.
I'll start hunting through stuff and see what I can contribute to, and start reading through guides/etc.
And I would greatly love to delve into your Spelljammer 5e setting. It was one of my favorite settings back in the day, and I've done some content stuff for spelljammer in 5e already (a previous player went on to DM, and went for spelljammer, and pestered me enough for design ideas and plotlines, etc). That sounds like a tremendous amount of fun. Phlogiston, the fiery fun the first time players encounter it.. the memories!--Kahz (talk) 05:19, 8 October 2016 (MDT)
I am not 100% sure, it might be work submitting a question (link at the bottom of [1]), "Can I submit work previously released under the GNU FDL"? I have a feeling WoTC would not be keen on it, as it would be awkward for them to cull that work for their own publications.
Please do take a look at my Spelljammer stuff. I had never played it previously (my only point of reference is the Yamara comic strip from the old Dragon magazine). I only started it per the request elsewhere on my talk page. I experimented with a ship-building and combat system that I'm quite happy with (still needs tweaking), from looking at material available on the web. I don't want to reproduce a lot of actual setting description, it should just be a "5e conversion" for those already familiar with the setting. Any help appreciated. 5e Frankenstein

I would like an opinion on a modified flesh golem. If I increase it's dexterity to 12 and intelligence to 10, remove it's berserk feature, and give it a great club or had axe, would I need to change it's CR? --209.97.85.48 13:52, 8 October 2016 (MDT)

I think the intent of the flesh golem is that it can be used to represent a monster based on the creature from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus unaltered. SirSprinkles (talk) 20:30, 11 October 2016 (MDT)
Sorry for the late reply.
The changes you suggest would not alter the CR. Marasmusine (talk) 02:13, 12 October 2016 (MDT)

Gonculator

Is it possible for a magic item's sole purpose is to simply be a magic aura? --Redrum 14:54, 8 October 2016 (MDT)

An aura of magic or an item that creates an aura of magic? SirSprinkles (talk) 20:31, 11 October 2016 (MDT)
Anything is possible. If I remember right, there used to a spell that a wizard could cast on an object to mark it (giving it a signature magic aura). I don't think there is a 5e version, but you could have a cantrip that gives an object an aura for 1 hour, or a 2nd level spell that gives it a permanent aura. Marasmusine (talk) 02:18, 12 October 2016 (MDT)
I think the spell you're thinking of is 5e SRD:Arcanist's Magic Aura. SirSprinkles (talk) 02:29, 12 October 2016 (MDT)
That would do it! I thought it was "someone's magic aura" but couldn't remember who the someone was. Nystul? Mordenkainen? Yes, turns out it's Nystul. Marasmusine (talk) 02:27, 12 October 2016 (MDT)
5e has Nystal's magic Aura. It can make an ordinary item look like a magic item, I think alter a magic item's aura or make a magic item look like a non-magical item. The main reason I asked the question is I have an idea for a "fake" magic shop. It might require more than just a casting or 2 of Nystal's Magic Aura. --Redrum 17:39, 12 October 2016 (MDT)
Maybe just have a magic item that requires attunement and lets the user cast 5e SRD:Arcanist's Magic Aura? Perhaps even as a constant blanket effect that the user can control? SirSprinkles (talk) 17:46, 12 October 2016 (MDT)

Interesting, but no. --Redrum 18:00, 12 October 2016 (MDT)

Is this for the player to set up, or for the DM to put into the story? If it's for the DM you don't need any special rules. Marasmusine (talk) 01:32, 13 October 2016 (MDT)

It's mainly for the DM. --Redrum 17:24, 19 October 2016 (MDT)

Kador

Would you mind if I used the Foo Animal (5e Template) in my Kador (5e Campaign Setting)? SirSprinkles (talk) 20:24, 11 October 2016 (MDT)

Absolutely, please do. It's a conversion of AD&D material anyway. Marasmusine (talk) 02:21, 12 October 2016 (MDT)
Thanks. SirSprinkles (talk) 02:24, 12 October 2016 (MDT)

My First User Message, Dread Fighter Class

Howdy, thanks for the suggestions, you and the other user really helped me out. I changed the table to 5 power points every level and I defined the abilities better. If there's anything else I need to change please let me know. ----LuigiEgbert 2:56pm 12 October 2016(cst)

The Pillars of Adventure

When I design and review content for 5th edition, I always do so with balance between the pillars as an important consideration. I do this because the various comments from WotC staff, particularly those in Unearthed Arcana, imply very strongly that where a character option fits in the pillars matters to balance and design. In particular, while they seem fine with a particular thing leaning more toward one pillar than another, the standard appears to be that nothing should focus on only one pillar. (Except for things which don't really have another option, like weapons) I would like to write this up as a guideline for 5e and incorporate it into the precedent of 5th edition content for all of the other design guides which pertain to such material (races, classes, backgrounds, etc.). I want to do this, because I have noticed that a lot of designers build pure-combat content for 5e, despite that being pretty clearly against the design ethos of the game. Do you agree with this plan, or am I just being overzealous about a filler section for the PHB introduction? --Kydo (talk) 13:31, 13 October 2016 (MDT)

Well, you say you want to do it and in general one should strife to do the things that one wants to do (what a horrible answer, sorry, I've got a bad cold). Marasmusine (talk) 14:03, 13 October 2016 (MDT)
☆ --Kydo (talk) 14:18, 13 October 2016 (MDT)
I'm aware that I didn't respond to your Help:Balance post above, too, I don't want you to think I'm ignoring you. What you are doing is great. I've been feeling down recently so I've been focusing on my own material. The big concept stuff is too much for me right now. Marasmusine (talk) 15:08, 13 October 2016 (MDT)
LOL, I've been using the big concept stuff as a distraction from my incomplete homebrew! --Kydo (talk) 15:21, 13 October 2016 (MDT)
Glad you're feeling happy to just focus on your own interest at the moment. Hope you feel up, jumpin' and enthusiastic again sometime soon. If you have any thoughts you want to share on the big changes, even if it's years later, I'll always be willing to help and adapt what I can in response. So you enjoy what you can, you ain't missin' out <3 --SgtLion (talk) 02:18, 17 October 2016 (MDT)

Hey maramusine

I placed a reply to your questions in regards to the vampire class and clarified a few things. If you get time would you be able to take a look through. Thanks --Vladmere.Labefactum (talk) 23:41, 14 October 2016 (MDT)

Glad to see your improvements, I'll try and make time to look through them. Marasmusine (talk) 04:11, 15 October 2016 (MDT)

Figurine of Wondrous Power

Hey Marasmusine, I recently created the 5e SRD:Figurine of Wondrous Power, but the formatting has gone a little weird. Could you help? SirSprinkles (talk) 04:39, 16 October 2016 (MDT)

Lol how did you even manage that. I'll try and make time to look at it. Marasmusine (talk) 05:20, 16 October 2016 (MDT)
Oh, wait, the SRD is supposed to have that font? Marasmusine (talk) 05:46, 16 October 2016 (MDT)
I need to adjust the monster template so that it doesn't display anything for cr, xp, etc, if those fields are missing. Marasmusine (talk) 05:49, 16 October 2016 (MDT)
Thanks SirSprinkles (talk) 17:26, 19 October 2016 (MDT)

Printing Press

Would a printing press require some form of proficiency? What would a press cost in a standard campaign? --209.97.85.48 18:11, 19 October 2016 (MDT)

It's a tool, so a proficiency would be appropriate.
As for cost, it depends what kind of printing press you mean. If it's like the Gutenburg press (letterpress printing), I could not find any historical information except that they were custom-built and took about 2 weeks to construct. I would guess at least 1,000 gp. Operating costs should also be considered. It would also herald the start of a renaissance era! Marasmusine (talk) 01:37, 20 October 2016 (MDT)
I have I Gutenberg-style press in my campaign. The cost for a NEW one is 5000 gp. That includes an Owner's Manual (in Gnomish), 3 sets of letters(Common, Dwarvish, and Elvish), spare parts, and a set of SPECIALIZED tinker's tools. --Redrum 13:48, 22 October 2016 (MDT)
Sounds good. Marasmusine (talk) 14:30, 22 October 2016 (MDT)

Valkrym

Hello Marasmusine

I am the original creator of the Valkrym class. I notice there are a few overpowered abilities and I'm happy to learn from you and make these more balanced. If you have any queries about any abilities, please let me know.

DrENigma

Hello, I would say, for a start, either take away spellcasting, or take away the class features that are currently at levels where a new spell slot level is gained. Marasmusine (talk) 05:21, 22 October 2016 (MDT)

As I don't know a great deal just yet about creating new classes, I give you permission to tweak it how you see fit, to make it balanced but still give it that "guy I'd rather not mess with" attitude.

DrENigma

It needs more than tweaks, it needs a rewrite :) Marasmusine (talk) 10:17, 22 October 2016 (MDT)

My DM is perfectly fine with the class as it is. He said some games have characters that have absurdly powerful abilities, but they need to work with others to survive, and that's what we'll do. So it can stay as it is, I'm not paying someone to change my own class to suit their preferences. Enjoy your day. :)

DrENigma

You can do as you wish in your own game, but please don't remove the "needs balance" message. It's not suitable for someone else to drop this class into their game if it's a normal campaign with players that don't completely overshadow everything else. Marasmusine (talk) 13:19, 22 October 2016 (MDT)

Ok, I give in. Seeing as you flagged my Class for deletion, I will pay for you to balance it. Basically, he's a dark spellcaster imbued by the Gods, to Judge mankind. Satisfied?

20/11/16 I am actually thoroughly impressed with the class! It gives a good balance of survivability without being overpowered. And it comes across as being the lonely sorcerer/assassin they were born to be. If you could message me your PayPal details, I'd be happy to donate to you for fixing the class. DrENigma

ALso, thank you for protecting the page as I have noticed a couple of edits that were not made by myself, the OC, or yourself, the editor. --DrENigma (talk) 16:41, 21 November 2016 (MST)

Yeah, I wasn't sure who was doing that. Marasmusine (talk) 01:13, 22 November 2016 (MST)

Musicus Scores

Hey Marasmusine, I just wanted to let you know that the reason I put the Musicus template at the top of the page was because that's where Kydo put it on another one of my races, so I assumed that was correct. However, if you'd rather have it on the talk page, let me know so we can move it. --OwenLeaf (talk) 12:51, 23 October 2016 (MDT)

Hello OwenLeaf, nice to hear from you, I guess it's a discussion we should have with Kydo, but yes personally I think how-I-made-it material should go on the talk page. Also, I'm not 100% happy with that scoring system and I appreciate people may find it useful but I don't want it to seem official. Marasmusine (talk) 13:04, 23 October 2016 (MDT)
Also, if I may cheekily ask, do you have any plans to help with the magazine? D&D Wiki Magazine/Issue 4 Marasmusine (talk) 13:05, 23 October 2016 (MDT)
I may throw together an Ooze Bloodline sorcerer archetype or something for it. When do you need it done by? --OwenLeaf (talk) 13:16, 23 October 2016 (MDT)
Thanks. December? Marasmusine (talk) 14:09, 23 October 2016 (MDT)

Concubus (Race)

Hello Marasmusine, I have made changes to address the questions and requests made in the Concubus page, and have made some comments on the changes in the discussion section. I'd like to request it be looked over please. Tatsuen (talk) 03:45, 27 October 2016 (MDT)

Howdy there!

I am new to wiking in general. How do I add the 3.5 Magical Template? (Padded Armor of Masculine form)2601:600:C001:800:E5F5:F4AB:7FBB:BF94 12:01, 28 October 2016 (MDT)

Hello there, I have added the template for you, you just need to fill in the fields (refer to your DMG for more information). Let me know if you have any questions! Marasmusine (talk) 12:13, 28 October 2016 (MDT)
Thank you muchly! What would you recommend for prerequisites and such? Making this (and the other, Feminine Form) for a campaign and I haven't ever actually created such specifics for item crafting before. Thank you for your time and effort! 2601:600:C001:800:E5F5:F4AB:7FBB:BF94 12:19, 28 October 2016 (MDT)
It's been a long time since I played 3.5 so I'm not sure, I would imagine something like SRD:Alter Self. By the way, shouldn't the item negate the -2 penalty for disguising as the opposite gender, rather than add a bonus? (Although you could have a general bonus as well) Marasmusine (talk) 13:30, 28 October 2016 (MDT)
One final question, and this one seems silly. How can I edit the title to add (3.5e Magic Item)?2601:600:C001:800:383E:BC00:4BBB:FB86 22:25, 28 October 2016 (MDT)
There's a "move" tab at the top of the screen, but you might not see it as an anonymous user. I'll do this for you. Marasmusine (talk) 01:57, 29 October 2016 (MDT)

Making an Arcane Elemental

Hi there! I wanted to try homebrewing an arcane elemental for DnD 5e, like the kind of arcane elementals you would see in Warcraft (http://wow.gamepedia.com/Arcane_elemental). The problem is, I don't really have a good idea of what it's stats would be, or what DnD-themed abilities would best suit it. I DO know that it would be a CR 5 creature, on par with the other elementals seen in the official monsters manual, if that helps any. Clockwerk66 (talk) 14:40, 28 October 2016 (MDT)

Hello! I do have a rough idea of what the stats might be, I don't quite have the time now to start it, but I'll speak to you over the next couple of days about it. Marasmusine (talk) 14:55, 28 October 2016 (MDT)
Sure thing! I'll catch you later then! :) Clockwerk66 (talk) 15:04, 28 October 2016 (MDT)
Greetings, I couldn't but notice that someone is attempting to create a world of warcraft creature. I would be more than happy to to help you if Marasmusine is not available if it is alright by both of you. Besides it should be fun to do something with someone from now and than. --Azernath (talk) 15:38, 28 October 2016 (MDT)
Hey everyone. Please don't forget to add {{Copyright Disclaimer|owner=Blizzard|franchise=Warcraft}} to the top of the page. --Kydo (talk) 15:46, 28 October 2016 (MDT)
Hello Azernath! If you want to help out with this, then I'll gladly accept the help. :) Clockwerk66 (talk) 04:54, 31 October 2016 (MDT)
I'm not familiar with WoW. I guess it would have:
  • bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from nonmagical attacks
  • immunity to poison
  • immunity to the effects of 2nd level spells or lower
  • exhaustion, grappled, paralysed, petrified, poisoned, prone, restrained, unconscious
  • attacks that deal force damage Marasmusine (talk) 09:55, 31 October 2016 (MDT)

3.5e race

Where (or who) do I go to for a 3.5e mongrelfolk race? --209.97.85.48 13:22, 29 October 2016 (MDT)

I don't know, sorry. Marasmusine (talk) 09:55, 31 October 2016 (MDT)

Making a 5e Monster "Elite"

Hello there!

I've been experimenting with ways to take given regular 5e monsters, and make "elite" versions of them, for the purpose of throwing customized, named monsters into random encounters every so often. The way I've gone about it up to this point is to do the following to a normal monster:
- increase all ability scores by +2
- increase AC by +2
- increase number of hit dice by +1
- use the maximum possible result of hit dice for its health
- increase challenge rating by +1 to compensate for the other changes

Any thoughts about this method? Clockwerk66 (talk) 13:55, 3 November 2016 (MDT)

Hello, yes, let's see.
  • +2 to all ability scores, no particular issue with this, but bear in mind there are creatures with an Intelligence of 1 (effectively "mindless") that you will be raising to 3 (animal intelligence).
  • +2 AC, no problem
  • Hit points. Why not just add more hit dice, rather than maximizing? Still, let's stick with what you suggest.
  • Let's actually recalculate the CR and see if +1 CR is correct. Let's do an elite wolf.
Hit points are changing from 11 (2d8 + 2) to 30 (24 + 6); AC is changing from 13 to 15. Therefore the defensive CR moves from 1/8 to 1/4, and the final CR goes from 1/4 to 1/2 (it's not a flat +1, but it is the next step up)
Now let's try with a winter wolf.
Hit points go from 75 (10d10 + 20) to 143 (110 + 33); AC goes from 13 to 15. DCR goes from 1 to 5, final CR I think would go from 3 to 4.
Something a bit bigger, a hill giant. Hit points go from 105 to 187. DCR goes from 3 to 8. Final CR goes from 5 to 6. Seems to work so far!
The ability score adjustments don't factor in, unless you are also adjusting secondary statistics (AC, attack and damage), is this the case? And would we increase attack bonuses as a result of an increased prof bonus? If so, the CR might be higher still.
Now, I played 4th edition previously, and "elite" in that game meant a monster that was "worth two", so it had roughly double hit points and twice the damage output. Your elite template increases the toughness of the monster, but not its damage output. It makes the battle last longer, without increasing the threat. I'm wondering if there's something more interesting that can be done. Marasmusine (talk) 17:13, 3 November 2016 (MDT)
All this reminds me of the Master (5e Template) that I made a while back for stronger monsters. I made it with the thought that the creature involved would be training or have some kind of magical empowerment (so I didn't allow beasts or oozes to become masters: they don't really have the mental capacity to train) and implemented an Intelligence requirement (with the reasoning that a smarter creature would be more willing to train, and when I added monstrosities to the list I knew that many of them have animal-level intelligence). You could try that as a baseline, perhaps? However, it doesn't give a clean +1 to CR, as your elite template seems to, as the CR 3 5e SRD:Knight became a CR 11 Great Knight (5e Creature). SirSprinkles (talk) 18:02, 3 November 2016 (MDT)
Hello again! I actually meant to include that my "formula" actually DOES add one additional hit die to the monster's health, and THEN uses the maximum possible result of the final amount of hit dice. Otherwise, yeah I see your point about it not giving a terribly significant increase to its offense. Maybe increasing the subject monster's damage dice by one level would be at least a good start? And in regards to Intelligence, I suppose exceptions from increases could be made depending on the monster in question. Clockwerk66 (talk) 18:23, 3 November 2016 (MDT)
I would suggest
  • Increase secondary statistics as a result of the +2 increase to ability scores. This means:
    • +1 to skills and saving throws
    • +1 to attack rolls and DCs by 1
    • Increase the above by 1 again if the estimated CR means its proficiency bonus is going up.
    • +1 to weapon attack damage
    • +1 to AC (which is included in the +2 AC already given)
  • Give it Multiattack, or if it already has Multiattack, give an additional attack with it (instead of increasing damage dice)
However,
This will increase the CR even more. If you want to keep it at CR +1, may have to do something else with hit points (such as not maximizing, but adding 50% more hit dice) Marasmusine (talk) 02:23, 4 November 2016 (MDT)
My increase of ability scores already provides a boost to saves, skills, attack/damage rolls and DCs, based on my formula, which I already make sure to include in my resulting stat blocks. Otherwise, I can experiment with just adding 50% more hit dice as you suggest. Thank you for your input! Clockwerk66 (talk) 06:41, 4 November 2016 (MDT)

Assistance: Harlequin

Currently I am in the (slow) process of finishing the 5e Harlequin class and was wondering if I could get a little more understanding of what some of the things mean when you say "Feature spread needs looking at. Nothing on 15th, but also has features on levels on which they also gain a new spell slot level" but mostly the last part. Thank You!

Hello, I have replied on the talk page for the class. Let me know if you need further help. Marasmusine (talk) 10:51, 4 November 2016 (MDT)

Closed Gate

Is it possible to use the Gate spell to CLOSE a PERMANENT gate or a planar rift? --209.97.85.48 12:53, 5 November 2016 (MDT)

I can't see anything in the spell description about closing a gate. You probably just need a 5e SRD:Dispel Magic spell cast at an appropriately high level. Marasmusine (talk) 12:59, 5 November 2016 (MDT)
What if you don't have access to 5e SRD:Dispel Magic? --Redrum 17:29, 9 November 2016 (MST)
If you're DMing the game, find a way to make it available. A scroll. A wand. An NPC. Marasmusine (talk) 08:56, 10 November 2016 (MST)

There are no Dispel Magic wands in my campaign but there is a crude Magebane Runestaff available. It allows a sorcerer to cast the Dispel Magic and Nystul's Magic Aura spells. It is very rare. --Redrum 18:08, 16 November 2016 (MST)

Hey Marasmusine I just wanted to check in and say that after a few back and forths on this custom race that i've been working on it seems to have been ignored even though I have worked to make it balanced for 5e so i just wanted some thoughts on whether it's gonna stay permanently deleted or not

If you're talking about Ghoul (Tokyo Ghoul) (5e Race), don't worry, it was never deleted. The categories were just removed, (Not sure why) so it wasn't getting transcluded on the 5e Races page. --Kydo (talk) 21:29, 8 November 2016 (MST)
There's also Ghoul (Tokyo Ghoul), and I'm not sure exactly what's up with that, but it is also missing its categoriesw. I'll hold off on fixing it, because I'm not entirely sure if the page's existence was intentional, or just a move accident. --Kydo (talk) 21:29, 8 November 2016 (MST)

5e Dreamscape

The group I'm DMing landed in the Collective Demiplanes of Dreams after messing with a "technological" relic. I want suggestions on Werelions (both real world and dream world), Ninja Monkeys, Living Scarecrows, Succubus Knights, and a Talking Animal templete. Also, What is your OPINION on a Conjure Dream Creature spell? --Redrum 17:37, 9 November 2016 (MST)

Good grief, what. Marasmusine (talk) 13:21, 13 November 2016 (MST)
The short version of the story is the "relic" is a form of planar gate. The Collective Demiplanes of Dreams while ALLEGEDLY one plane is ALWAYS in flux and sometimes seem to be more than just one plane, which is why the sages of my campaign call the COLLECTIVE DEMIPLANES. It has several rulers. The Archfey rulers have animal-based dream creatures. The fiendish ones have succubus subjects. --Redrum 17:53, 16 November 2016 (MST)

Broken Redirects

Archive your talk page good sir. The scrolling! My god the scrolling!

Also when you get a chance I just flagged a lot of broken redirects for deletion.   Hooper   talk    contribs    email   08:11, 13 November 2016 (MST)

Thanks I will delete them ASAP.
And just press the "end" key :) Marasmusine (talk) 09:17, 13 November 2016 (MST)
Also, has anyone with admin powers checked out Special:DeadendPages in, well, ever? We've got a few odd titled pages which may just need to be deleted duplicates or maybe were missed at some point over the years as we standardized page titles.   Hooper   talk    contribs    email   19:57, 17 November 2016 (MST)
I'll take a look. Marasmusine (talk) 01:34, 18 November 2016 (MST)
I know why. --Kydo (talk) 05:31, 18 November 2016 (MST)

Blitzkrieg

Hi Marasmusine,

Thanks for the feedback on my first post on the homebrew server. I generate these weapons and items based upon events and character builds in my campaign. I am relatively new to this considering i started playing 5E in mid September. If you have any recommendations for improvements on any of my items, i would be greatly appreciated and glad for input. The saving throw effect was a last minute addition due to the barbarian being a pyromaniac. I've removed that line and would ask for your assistance in improving it. If there is any other changes you would suggest let me know asap so i can change them.

Thanks,

BlitzkriegDrago

Hi BlitzkriegDrago, nice to hear from you. Blitzkrieg (5e Equipment) does need a little rewriting, it would be easier for me to just make the changes rather than list everything (you can always revert if you don't like it), is that okay? Marasmusine (talk) 13:07, 13 November 2016 (MST)
Didn't expect a reply so soon. I would be greatful with your assistance and we should be able to meet in some agreement about the weapon. I often get my fellow players and DM to verify and check the creations over. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
BlitzkriegDragon (talk) 13:20, 13 November 2016 (MST)
Thanks for the rework. Seems to be alot better built and structured. Thanks for your help!

Homebrew in relation to Official Adventures

Hey Marasmusine.
I've been considering creating a page where users can suggest ways homebrewed material can be applied to official adventures. Any ideas? SirSprinkles (talk) 17:10, 13 November 2016 (MST)

I haven't read any of the official adventures, but not sure. I guess you would just have to make the page and see. Marasmusine (talk) 01:41, 14 November 2016 (MST)
I like the idea. What about a page for each published adventure which discusses the ways the adventure can be modified and customized, including homebrew from the wiki? Such a page could be used as a way of collecting a wide variety of customizations used by multiple DMs. Other DMs could then use that as inspiration for their own games and (hopefully) come back and add their insights later. --Kydo (talk) 05:32, 14 November 2016 (MST)

I'm starting one for Out of the Abyss now. How's Adapting Adventures: Out of the Abyss sound as a title? SirSprinkles (talk) 17:42, 18 November 2016 (MST)

Created. SirSprinkles (talk) 18:14, 18 November 2016 (MST)
I've also created Adapting Adventures: Hoard of the Dragon Queen (5e Quest) and Adapting Adventures: Storm King's Thunder (5e Quest). SirSprinkles (talk) 18:41, 18 November 2016 (MST)

Azernath

I am planing to make a small collection of books that contain few of my creations from the Dandwiki, and things that I have still to post for another reason or another. The question is could I do so with things that are already posted in the website? or can I add things that I am the only pesron that have added to them? Furthermore, any advises you can give me about the Open License system, so I avoid any problems. Don't worry I will still frequently add extra things and wonders to the website. --Azernath (talk) 09:49, 15 November 2016 (MST)

It's all at GNU Free Documentation License 1.3. Section 2 is the relevant bit if you're verbatim copying the articles. Marasmusine (talk) 10:52, 18 November 2016 (MST)
I should note, it's my understanding that if your homebrew uses any "content" (basically terminology, verbatim wording, etc.) from the SRD or other OGL sources, it technically has to be released under the OGL. That said, you can't copyright the mechanics, just the wording of them, so hypothetically, if nothing was borrowed from OGL sources, it shouldn't be a problem.--GamerAim (talk) 18:30, 18 November 2016 (MST)
Edit: To clarify, I'm unsure if specific terminology with generic wording, especially within proper contexts (e.g. armor class, spell resistance), can be copyrighted. And this is all technicalities, not a guarantee that anyone would take legal action against you anyway.--GamerAim (talk) 18:35, 18 November 2016 (MST)
I think writers can copy such contexts because I have a copy of the 5e Tome of Beasts which copy a lot of creatures features (pack tactics, magic weapons, and more) that many uses frequently, so I think that others can use small things such as features, but not full monsters. --Azernath (talk) 11:18, 19 November 2016 (MST)
If I were to create a homebrew creature with either the Manifestation or Ghostly Manifestations abilities, copied verbatim, I'd have to release it under the OGL, since I'd be using it under those terms because I don't have any specific arrangement with WotC that says otherwise. If you haven't copied verbatim anything from OGL sources, you don't technically have to release it under that license, since it's your own work. I don't have a copy of the Tome of Beasts, so I can't say for certain if it does or doesn't use the OGL. But like I said: as long as you aren't directly copying anything from the SRD or other OGL sources, you can do whatever you want with it, otherwise you legally have to release it (parts of it, at least) under the OGL. I'm not a lawyer or anything, I just wanted to let you know that some pages on this site might be infringing on the terms of the OGL :)--GamerAim (talk) 13:21, 19 November 2016 (MST)
The stuff that I plan to create in small books (which will be purchased for an extremely low fee) is fully based on my own creations; however, some use things like the assigned weapons and monsters features. I good example is the Shieldman (5e Creature) where it uses weapons from the player's handbook, Demigryph (5e Creature) that uses simple features, and Centurion Spear (5e Equipment) that is a completely new item.

Rewrite

hay Mr marasmusine i read that for a price you can fix up a class and bring it up to standards and your the one who responded to me when i asked about a certain class. i have no idea who made it or if there gonna finish it at all but i really like the class mostly cus i plan to use it for a D@D am going to be joining and i wished to ask if it was possible for me to pay for you to bring it up to standards because our DM said no unfinished classes. The class was the arcane puppeteer. Thank you for a moment of your time Shadowthehero

I will take a look! Marasmusine (talk) 01:43, 19 November 2016 (MST)

Thank you Kindly i do enjoy the changes you made to the class thus far i hope you got the donation first time using pay pal lol ..anyway thanks so much i cant wait to see what the finished class will look like ..my only hope is that you keep the ..you become a living puppet thing at the end ..was my favorite part anyway thanks mr marasmuine

I'll make sure that feature stays in (in some form!). Donation received, thank-you. I will work on it some more today. Marasmusine (talk) 01:17, 22 November 2016 (MST)

Hay me once more i just have one question about repairing the puppets. Is it a bit prices if am reading it right and if am not please do correct me ..for ever single point of health you want repaired you need to spend the gold so by the time we get a legendary version late game were insane amounts of damage are taken wouldn't it take like tons and tons of gold to even repair a single point of damage?

I'm out by a factor of 10. Will adjust now. Marasmusine (talk) 01:26, 25 November 2016 (MST)

Hay its me shadow i just wanted to say thank you so much for the rewrite i love how it is sorry for not saying anything for a while i was busy for a long time lately but i just wanted to say thanks for all the work you did . i really wanna help am trying to think up puppets of different kinds so you don't have to do as much but i want them to be balanced like yours will give you my ideas if it helps

Hello, please give me all your ideas. Because I have so many projects going on, I need constant prodding to work on one particular thing. Marasmusine (talk) 02:03, 21 December 2016 (MST)

Alright i will put my ideas in the class discussion section hope they help

Sup mara its me shadow once more i didn't want to create a whole talk when i could just reuse this one but i wanted to ask if you have the time and don't mind could you check on the battle medic variant class Me and my friend made it trying to make battle medic truly not a weaker copy and paste of cleric. i think we added some interesting ability's and we would love to see your feedback when ever also i hope my puppet ideas helped i asked all my friends if they get any to put it on the discussion page of puppeteer like i did anyway happy very late Christmas lol

Sorcerer, Variant

I think that the Sorcerer, Variant should be moved from the archetypes list because it isn't actually an archetype, but I'm not sure where to move it to. Classes, perhaps? SirSprinkles (talk) 00:15, 20 November 2016 (MST)

5e Class Feature Variants; remove everything that's duplicated from the original sorcerer and just show what has changed. Marasmusine (talk) 02:12, 20 November 2016 (MST)

Chosen Undead Race

I was wondering if there is a way to un-delete the page in my subject? that was deleted by you.

Okay, it's now back at Chosen Undead (5e Race). It will need some improvement! Marasmusine (talk) 02:09, 22 November 2016 (MST)

Thank you so much, will definitely get to working!

Template Help

You've been active on here for some time, so do you know anything about making templates and tables and the like? If not, do you know someone who might be able to help me? I created a navbox that goes at the bottom of some pages, and until now, I thought it worked fine, but it won't display more than 5 columns at once. I took a look at the template, but I can't see what's wrong.--GamerAim (talk) 17:53, 22 November 2016 (MST)

So If I look at something like OGC:Barbarian of the North (3.5e Class), at the bottom there's a list of feats... you want these arranged into columns, and you want six (or more) ? Marasmusine (talk) 03:13, 23 November 2016 (MST)
I realized what the "problem" was last night while in bed. I changed the template to try and fix the problem, when I realized that one of the columns in the example was missing. It was missing because it was empty because there are no transcribed spells yet! I just tested it, and it seems to be working properly >_>
I still seem to be having issues, though. OGC:Restraints (3.5e Variant Rule) has a navbox that isn't displaying, well, anything. After some testing, it appears that the dpl is at fault, and won't output a page that it's already on. I never noticed before, but it comes up because there's only one variant rule, so it comes up empty and never displays. Do you know how/if I can fix this, or know someone else who might know? IDK why a dpl wouldn't list a page that it's on :/--GamerAim (talk) 06:29, 23 November 2016 (MST)
I did take a quick look after your first message, but I'm poorly at the moment and the code was just spinning in my head. Marasmusine (talk) 06:35, 23 November 2016 (MST)
Don't worry, it turns out "skipthispage=no" is all it needed. Thanks :)--GamerAim (talk) 06:44, 23 November 2016 (MST)
