Dogfolk (5e Race)[edit]

Dogfolk are a race known for their loyalty to those they care for. They are fiercely protective, and are willing to sacrifice anything -including their own life- for someone or something they deem important. For this reason, Dogfolk are greatly valued as soldiers and bodyguards, as well as treasured friends.

Three Distinct Looks.[edit]

Dogfolk are split into three distinct subraces; Shepherd, Hound, and Elfin. Although they are one race, the three subraces do affect each Dogfolk's appearance and personality.

Shepherd Dogfolk tend to be tall and lean. They have athletic bodies, long and sturdy legs, and pointed or rose ears. Shepherds' fur is usually medium in length, and a shade of brown, or black and white. The tallest of the Shepherds stands around 6'6", and the shortest around 6'1".

The second type are the Hound Dogfolk. Members of this group are midrange in stature, the tallest barely reach 6'0", and the shortest are around 5'6". They have long ears, short brown fur, and droopy skin; similar to the Bloodhound. Their bodies are stocky, muscular, and strong, with broad shoulders and thick limbs.

The final type are the Elfin Dogfolk. Elfin Dogfolk are very slight, with thin bodies, pricked ears, and short, light-colored fur. The Elfin Dogfolk rarely exceed 5'3", but the shortest Elfins can be as small as 4'10". They are light on their feet and could even be described as 'dainty' by someone who does not know their eccentric personalities.

People-Pleasers.[edit]

Despite being divided by subraces, Dogfolk are all similar in some aspects. Mainly, their desire to please and entertain. They make excellent company, as most of them are kind and friendly in nature. They are often extremely loyal, but sometimes have touble telling when they are being decieved by someone they like. Most Dogfolk are good, but neutral ones are not unheard of. Shepherds and Hounds are usually clear-minded and calm, while Elfins are often more exuberant and excitable.

Loyal to a Fault.[edit]

Dogfolk are driven by loyalty, be it to family members, community, or even just one friend. They love very deeply and can become extremely emotional or upset if someone they care for is in danger. They will guard their friends and family with their lives, sometimes disregarding their own safety in the process.

Common Dogfolk Names[edit]

Dogfolk's names are most often nature related. Names often pertain to trees, flowers, or other plants. They usually have one first name and one family name. The family name is generally determined by the occupation of the family's ancestors, as is common in humans.

Male: Male Dogfolk names are generally related to trees. Aspen, Cedar, and Ash are common male first names.

Female: Female Dogfolk names are more often related to flowers or smaller plants. Rose, Clover, and Fern are common female first names.
