Personality[edit]

When with their herd in their forests, cut off from the rest of the world, they are a calm, very friendly race. Children are rambunctious and get into trouble, and are also considered a very refreshing source of amusement. Schooling is strict, but when they are out of class, it's all play, all the time. They grow up slowly because of it, taking around 70 years to fully mature. Unicorns spend their days collecting food, fixing homes, cleaning, etc. and are usually done with that around the middle of the day. They rarely rush to do anything, because it's all a relaxing process for them. They have a small meal around that time, nap, relax or practice fighting afterwards and then spend their evenings creating and perfecting a massive array of instruments, projects they have often been working on for years. As the sun sets, they prepare and hold a grand feast where everyone in the herd dines and eats to their fullest. They stay up late into their nights, playing instruments once the meal is done and cleaned up, and then the day starts all over again after sleep. Like Elves, Unicorns need only meditate through the night for 4 hours before they've recovered, though, when safe in their herd, it isn't uncommon for them to fall asleep for 6 or 8 hours.

It isn't uncommon for Unicorn's to wander their forests, though that is usually left for the older, experienced men, who look to preserve their secrecy and rid the forest of anything dangerous nearby. Their speed is ability to hide is what has made Unicorn myth tell that they are four legged magical beasts.

When separated from the herd, Unicorns are quiet and usually disliked. Most don't understand the otherworldly feeling the presence of a Unicorn emanates-- they're unfathomable beauty, their quiet, smooth way of walking, the way their voice sounds, etc. They are strange beings that never speak of themselves, and usually come and go as they please. Depending on their alignment, as well, they can be a source of complete fear just by entering a room.

Likewise, their personality, when spoken to, can come off as a bit cocky or vain. It isn't outwardly so, they never flaunt, but they know that they are beautiful, that they are better than most, and get offended when called things like human or horse as it is degrading.

Of coarse, personalities are always exceptions to every rule.

Physical Description[edit]

Average height: Between 6' and 7'2"

Average weight: Around 200 lbs.

Skin color: Varies based on alignment*

Eye color: Varies on location, but the color is always vibrant and intense

Hair color: Varies on location, but there are no boundaries.

Ears: A Unicorn's ears are unique in that, at first glance, many people pass them off as those of an Elf. However, they are positioned higher up the side of the head and look more like those of a horse. They can also move somewhat to cone in sound, but it's subtle.

Aging: When left in peace, they can live for upwards towards a thousand years. However, that is rarely the case, as Unicorns grown more endangered every year.

Head Shape: Long and slender, and always very beautiful.

Feet: Hooved. Only a Unicorn's feet are hooved and in the shape of a horse, the rest of their body is very human-like.

  • The color of a Unicorn's skin is entirely dependent on their alignment, which changes according to their lifestyles and actions. White skin is the equivalent of a pure/good heart and conscious. Flesh colored skin is a tainted/neutral heart, and charcoal or black is sinful/evil. Once their skin turns, they can work to repent, to purify and return to their previous state, but it is a hard task to accomplish.

Unicorns that are no longer "pure" often leave the forest and their herd to travel and repent for their wrong doings-- if they can. However, like in any race, there are those who chose or want to be evil and are banished from their herd. They rebel against the Unicorn beliefs and structures in every way possible and wreck all sorts of havoc.

Other:

Unicorn's Horn: A Unicorn's horn is not a tangible entity. It is only visible to others in natural moonlight, and rather than being your generic horn, it is a transparent horn that glimmers the shades of a rainbow, like a magical entity right upon their foreheads. However, once a Unicorn has died or been killed, their horn is the only thing that remains as their body vanishes. It become a solid, pearly gold entity that takes on many forms, dependent upon their region (Some are traditional swirls, other's smooth and straight, other's are curved with a hook at the end, etc.)

Tails: All Unicorn's have a tail that matched their hair color and type. In some regions it resembles a lion's tail, in other's it's more like a horses. It is therefore difficult to hide, though most lone Unicorns have figured their way around that-- some by hiding it, wearing a cloak or, in many cases, by trimming it short or braiding.

Relations[edit]

Unicorns are not, by any means, a social race. They keep to themselves in their forests, as far away from most humanoid contact as possible in an attempt to preserve themselves. They are hunted for their horns and the magical properties they possess, and are thus very wary and untrusting of other races. However, it isn't unheard of for a unicorn to grow attached to another being, as they are, by nature, very lonesome until they find a mate.

On average, though it is a small average, Unicorns most often befriend Elves, Halfelves, Dwarves, and, on occasion, Humans.

Alignment[edit]

Unicorns usually start out at Lawful/Good, but over time, the Good/Evil axis can change.

Lands[edit]

Unicorns are born in forests amidst their own kind, and usually live their lives out in that forest.

Religion[edit]

They do not have a set religion, but are instead raised and composed of a very strict moral standard. Murder is wrong, be kind to others, etc.

Language[edit]

Young Unicorns are taught Common second to their own complicated and beautiful language, Yuthirian, and thus many are not entirely fluent in it.

Names[edit]

Unicorns are given a name, their True Name, the day of their birth, usually composed of vowels and vowel sounds more than consonance. However, they are taught and told to NEVER give another their True Name -- not even other Unicorns, since it is very personal. When a True Name is spoken, the Unicorn can hear that speaker and can locate them instantly, as well as hear the following 10 words as they fade away. They are then able to track the speaker until they forget or get completely distracted.

As such, every child is then given the opportunity to name themselves when they are about six years of age.
