Sorcerer Hate[edit]

The writer of this really hate sorccerers does he not? The sorcerer was already as a huge disadvantage compared to the wizzard under normal rules. However he had two things going for him 1) Spontanous casting. The wizzard just got that for free now 2) More castings per day. That was essenially stripped away from the sorcerer. I don't think you and I are reading the same page: The Sorcerer still gets more spell points per day than the wizard, and therefore can cast a few more spells per day. Prepared spellcasters still have to prepare spells, like the wizard, and are still are limited by the amount of spells they can prepare for any given day, as well.

Oh I am reading the same page. Yes the sorcer got a bit more spell points For example at level 20. 249 compared to 232. Please realice that in SRD sorcerers get 50% more spells. then straight wizzards. Hence the number should at least been 348 to compensate for that alone...Moreover yes the wizzard needs to prepare his spells. But once he done that he can chose cast them as sponatnously as a sorccer. The only difference beeing that the sorcerer is stuck with one spell selection and the wizzard can chose his each day a new. Making the wizzard system flat out superior in all ways that matter.
Furthermore, I am well aware that they are optional and official. That does not change the fact that they screw sorcerers.

I see. I suppose I get where you're coming from, as crunching the numbers reveals a ~20% power deficit favoring the wizard; I suppose I just don't get why. 3.5e has been passed by twice with newer versions, now, and this wiki is just up-keeping the SRD and OGL content as a reference point for designing homebrew material. No amount of acknowledging it as a bit unfair will change anything on the page. That's 3.5e, for you.
Also, I'm not really getting through the hoop of "Yes, they have to prepare spells, but then they can cast spontaneously!" because that contradicts itself. The spellcaster has to prepare each day just the same.
My recommendation is to make a new variant rule that addresses the concerns you have; That'll solve your problems with this one and contribute to the community as a whole.
As for your question, my answer would be Probably, if it was the rule being used at the table. I don't really make characters while worrying about how I stack up to other players. --Jwguy (talk) 05:34, 22 January 2017 (MST)
