[edit] True Warlock

In the face of dark&demonic powers, most heroes see death, horror and evil. True Warlocks see only one thing: Opportunity. Dominance is their aim, and they have found a path in ancient dark arts. These voracious individuals summon demonic entities to fight for them. At first, they command only the lesser creatures of the abyss, but as a warlock’s knowledge grows, seductive beings, loyal damage takers, and other horrific creatures join the dark sorcerer’s ranks to wreak havoc on anyone who stands in their master’s way. Many who have felt their wrath now prefer to fight alongside a warlock than against one.

[edit] Making a True Warlock

Warlocks are great ranged damage deals, though they themselves lack in the melee department, but that is where their summoned beings and party members come into the loop.

Abilities: Intelligence is a Warlocks main ability score. Charisma is a close second so that he may be able to forge a pact with other outsiders, and Consitution the for some health.

Races: Any with the Stomachs to handle the demonic forces of the abyss.

Alignment: Whatever drives the True Warlock. However most are usually evil due to the dark energies most choose to handle. Although some may wish to embrace another path.

Starting Gold: High

Starting Age: Moderate.

[edit] Class Features

All of the following are class features of the True Warlock.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: "Has no Armor Proficiency. And uses Simple&Martial Weapons"

Spells: Spells: "A True Warlock casts arcane spells, which are drawn from the Wizard spell list. A Warlock must choose and prepare his spells in advance. To learn, prepare, or cast a spell, the Warlock must have a Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level (int 10 for 0-level spells, int 11 for 1st-level spells, and so forth). The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a Warlock’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the Warlock’s Intelligence modifier. Like other spellcasters, a Warlock can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. His base daily spell allotment is given on the Table above. In addition, he receives bonus spells per day if he has a high Intelligence score"

Demonology:(Su)"Character gains +2 to Evocation spells and DCs, and gains the Knowledge: Outsider. Which allows him to roll a knowledge check against any outsider type, or a specific outsider whose name he knows"

Soul Shatter:(Ex) Is a special ability used by the True Warlock, where he shatters the very essence of a soul contained in one of the soul crystals, the result of this is a sudden boost of divine power, rushing though the Warlock. This energy is then channel into his arm and fired at targets. This is a ranged touch attack. Damage increases as mentioned on the table above. Range: 120 feet. Damage 1d6 + Int Modifier(minimum +0) Critical: 19/x2. Note: The energy type of the attack and appearance is choosen by the player once he obtains the ability. This CANNOT be changed afterwards.

Summon Outsider Familiar:(Su) "This allows the True Warlock to Summon an outsider though Ancient dark magics and rites, and forge a pact with it. Doing so allows the Warlock to obtain powerful allies, but in some cases this may backfire at the warlock. Becouse if the outsider does not acknowledge the warlock it may attack. Or use the warlock for his own dark schemes" These pacts are often forged in the form of the warlock obtaining a quest or personal desire of the outsider that he must fulfill. Note: The summoned Outsider must can enter into a pact with, either willingly or though force. The latter option however is not recommended, seeing how most demons are capable of supernatural feats of strength. Should the outsider, outright decline the warlock, then depending on the alignment of the creature it may instantly start attacking the warlock for his foolish acts. The amount of outsiders the Warlock may pact with increases as he levels. On the other hand. The Outsiders under his command, slowly become more and more devoted to the Warlock himself, and less to their own personal desires and could therefor be treated as Companions/Familiars. Note: If these outsiders are slain their Hearts/Souls turn to crystal within 1round of death, and are forever lost, unless a deity divine rank 5+ returns the outsider back to life, with a Miracle/True Ressurection spell. Note: Upon gaining levels Outsiders under a Pact with the True warlock gain: skill points equal to 5 × (2 + Int modifier, minimum 1) Its class skills are determinded by the DM for balance. Ofcouse a creature should only get class skills which would fit to said outsider.

Harvest Soul:(Su) Upon slaying another person/Creature the True Warlock may begin to extract the souls of the fallen. This must be done within 5rounds of death. If the Warlock Successfully extracts a soul from the fallen it is turned into a crystal like object. This Soul Crystal may be either consumed for health points 1d4+1/lvl . Or used for his Soul Shatter ability.

Abyssal Aura:(Su) "True Warlocks obtain a Abyssal Aura. This aura extends in a 40 ft radius of the Warlock and makes the area heat up, in addition to sapping away peoples will to oppose the warlock (-2 to attacks against the Warlock). Any Outsider within the aura must make a DC 10 + (Cha + Character Level) Will save or fall under the control of the warlock for the rest of its existence(unless rebuked or released). If an Outsider is bound to another creature permanently (Ex. Paladin's special mount) that will nullify the warlocks Aura.

Acension:(Su) At this point of time the True Warlock has obtained the power he sought for thoughout his career. Finally he has obtained the powers from the very beings he has been commanding. He sprouts a pair of wings, and gains the Outsider Traits(type) His outright appearance changes aswell, to match the looks of outsiders he has choosen to rule, and his alignment, aswell as a +4 bonus to his Consitution, Charisma and Intelligence.

[edit] Campaign Information

[edit] Playing a <-class name->

Religion: A true warlock wouldnt give in to the weak Religions of the world easily, since he is in control of their mythical creatures, however should one aspire to Religion he would sure choose one that focuses on his choosen type of servents.

Other Classes: There is always more room for more servents, is there not?

Combat: Summoner and support Caster

Advancement: Some sort of immortality, perhaps multiclass Merchant, for the power of money to also aid his cause.

[edit] True Warlock's in the World

Who dares enter my domain? I shall have the abyss decend upon thee!
—Lohak'ar The mighty, Gnome True Warlock

Daily Life: Days spendt studieing all the dark arts of the world.

Notables: The most notable thing about these people would be that they're running around. Performing dark rites and summon ancient evils into the world.

Organizations: True Warlocks have small 'guilds' who study these dark arts. Once evey year they get a message in one way or another, about assembling at either the guild or a named location.

NPC Reactions: If an npc were to find out about a true warlock, they would surely run in terror. (And ofcouse let eveyone nearby know of this persons location)

[edit] <-class name-> Lore

Characters with ranks in Knowledge: Bardic, Religion, Arcane can research True Warlocks to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

<-the appropriate skills->
DC Result
5 Heretics that should be destroyed.
10 The creatures following them are acutally forced to do their bidding.
15 They're summoners of supernautral creatures from other planes, and masters of forces unknown to most.
20 Some of them might even be good people, who summon angelic creatures to do battle with thier Darker counterparts!

[edit] True Warlock's in the Game

Sample Encounter: The group would walk though the woods of the nearby elven Village. Gossip lately has been all about voices in the darkness, and a glowing light from the heart of the forest. As the group emerges from the dark and into the light. A quick "Intruders!" can be heard, as some of the dark figures turn around. As the party gets ready for battle they notice that magical runes, and dark energies are rising from the group.

EL Depending on the encounter & ofcouse the importance of the encounter DM's themselves will have to figure out the right EL for the encounter. But remember to take all things into account when throwing one of these at the group, and read the class though atleast twice.
