[edit] FOR THE DM
The players, while slaughtering undead attacking a village, discover an idol that seems to be linked to the undead. They must face the sinister Knights of the Dead King, fight an army of undead, and finally defeat one of Utiolth's most terrible Reapers, bound within one of his ancient temples.
The Reaper was bound within the temple a thousand years ago, and the Knights of the Dead King seek to release it as prelude to an assault on Westhome itself. They must be stopped or Westhome will fall.

[edit] Stage One: Investigation
Stage One begins when the players fight a small group of undead appropriate to their level. They fight the undead, and discover a strange idol, which they bring to Old Man Aulsborne. He identifies the idol as being of a 'heathen god' but declines to say further. The players must succeed on a diplomacy or intimidate check before he will tell them that it's a depiction of one of Utiolth's Reapers. Or, alternatively, one of the party members must succeed on a DC 20 (Religion check) and discover the being that the idol depicts.
[edit] Stage Two: Undead Tide
Stage Two begins with a few Undead attacks. The dead begin to rise in the local graveyard, and besiege the inn where the players are staying. They fight off the first few waves easily, but then they begin to get overwhelmed by high level monsters. Old Man Aulsborne dies in the battle. Then the Knights of the Dead King show up. They either take the idol and flee or if the players defeat them, run away and escape with the idol, which dropped on the floor during the fighting.
[edit] Stage Three: The Hunt
Ahard and Lasarr meet up with the players in their castle. Ahard warns them that the Knights will return, while Lasarr tells the players that he has discovered a hidden door, and that it may have some relation to the Knights. Ahard kills Lasarr as he is about to reveal where the door is, revealing his true colours, and attacks the party. The players narrowly defeat him, and as he dies the Knights attack again. The players narrowly defeat them this time, and one of the Knights dies. They escape to the temple, but the players follow them inside.
[edit] Stage Four: The Temple
The players go into the temple, which is filled with various traps and undead, enough to level them to 19 if they aren't already. Eventually, they reach the central chamber, where a ritual is occuring that will free the Reaper of Utiolth known as Azrael from its imprisonment. There is an epic battle with the Knights of the Dead King and they are all slain. Unfortunately, their death has freed the Reaper from its imprisonment, and it must be defeated. In an epic battle, the Reaper is slain and returns to Utiolth, but the temple collapses and the PCs must escape. As they go out of the ruins, the survivors of the village praise them as heroes.
