Does anyone know why

|titleregexp={{{term1}}}[^a-z]|{{{term1}}}s[^a-z]

will match "Cat" but not "Cats"? (where {{{term1}}} is "Cat") Marasmusine (talk) 01:47, 14 September 2015 (MDT)

Does the | regex even work in wikispeak ? - I'd imagine it starts a new input parameter. Couldn't you just use {{{term1}}}s?[^a-z]? --SgtLion (talk) 02:34, 14 September 2015 (MDT)
I'll try that thank-you, I'm not really familiar with regex :) Marasmusine (talk) 03:09, 14 September 2015 (MDT)
That worked! Ash Cats (3.5e Race) is listed at Cat now, thanks! Marasmusine (talk) 03:13, 14 September 2015 (MDT)
Whoo, nice work! Stupid intersecting syntaxes. --SgtLion (talk) 03:14, 14 September 2015 (MDT)
New problem, now it's not matching a term that's at the end of the string, e.g. SRD:Monk is not listed at Monk (it worked before). Marasmusine (talk) 03:44, 14 September 2015 (MDT)
I'm not sure why it would've worked before, because [^a-z] requires any non a-z character to follow the term to match successfully. But if you make that optional, then things like SRD:Monkey come up for SRD:Monk. I'll keep thinkin' --SgtLion (talk) 04:43, 14 September 2015 (MDT)
Aight, this is plain evil. You can use $ to match an end of string. But it doesn't work in those []s and because of the wiki syntax, one can't use OR. If I could, {{{term1}}}s?($|[^a-z]) should work. Goshdarn. --SgtLion (talk) 05:43, 14 September 2015 (MDT)
¦ works as an OR, said a hidden message deep in mediawiki help. I hesitate to say 'Yay', but it seems to work! --SgtLion (talk) 06:00, 14 September 2015 (MDT)
SgtLion, I award you with 5 mini-barnstars: ***** Marasmusine (talk) 06:54, 14 September 2015 (MDT)

Also, might want to consider (maybe y'already did) using {{BASEPAGENAME}} in place of term1 if it's always going to be the name of the page. Then you could just put {{dab}} to make the relevant page. --SgtLion (talk) 10:20, 14 September 2015 (MDT)

Sneaksneak pathfinderhomebrew<3[edit]

Some nerve I have, asking for space for stuff I ain't even workin' on very fast. Pathfinder homebrew hasn't many articles, true. But it should slowly accrue. Any leeway for just slippin' a Pathfinder Homebrew in the last column, or somethin'? --SgtLion (talk) 07:45, 24 March 2016 (MDT)

Then again, d20 Modern has way more content and isn't in there either. Maybe more reasonable to wait for at least some minimum of stuff~.. --SgtLion (talk) 07:47, 24 March 2016 (MDT)
I added the sections that were missing. --Green Dragon (talk) 11:23, 3 June 2016 (MDT)

Unearthed Arcana[edit]

5e has some "Unearthed Arcana." too. To prevent problems like the one that can be seen on the Awakening page, something like "|notcategory=5e" should be added under Unearthed Arcana. - Guy (talk) 08:34, 29 November 2017 (MST)

Thanks. --Green Dragon (talk) 00:24, 30 November 2017 (MST)

D&D One[edit]

How will (or should) this template change with the upcoming changes anticipated with D&D One? It seems we won't even need to reference versions anymore and the site will be greatly simplified. Including links in articles will be much simpler, at the very least, without the pre and suffix material in every title. Personally, I believe templates are a drag and standard links are much more straightforward for marking pages. Cedric (talk) 21:48, 9 November 2022 (MST)

I greatly disagree with your view on older editions. While WotC has presented One D&D as the future one-stop-shop for D&D, it's mostly for people trying to get in to the game, since "edition" wording can be confusing for new players. For all intents and purposes, 1D&D is 5.5e (directly from the official FAQ: "One D&D will take what we love from fifth edition... fifth edition adventures and supplements will work in One D&D"; note no reference to 2.5e, 3.5e, or 4e). Regardless, even if that was what 1D&D was looking to be, it would still change the rules massively, and there would still be a community of creators who preferred the rules pre-One wanting to make content for it. The biggest change this template would have is a single new edition category, nothing more, nothing less.
Also, templates serve a lot of purposes beyond links, and those that are for simple links typically save time. With this page, having a single page that automatically links to every page with a certain key-word is far better than pages manually listing every similar page (see Alchemist) and keeps relevant pages from falling between the cracks when it's working properly. If that's not what you mean by "templates are a drag", then I'm a bit confused.--Ref3rence (talk) 09:10, 10 November 2022 (MST)
With a simplified version of D&D, it is not intended that any of our existing pages get changed to fit this version. Every page was created with very certain parameters, and their editions were each very important for their creation. I don't imagine that we will go through pages that are made for a specific edition and change them to be only usable for D&D One. --Green Dragon (talk) 14:34, 11 November 2022 (MST)
