Tamaranean

A Tamaranean is a person native to the distant extraterrestrial planet Tamaran in the Vegan System. Tamaraneans are humanoid in appearance, but are recognizable due to their characteristic orange-toned skin, red hair and green eyes, which are common among their race. Although rare, individuals can be born with different colored eyes and darker hair.

Physical Description

Tamaraneans are golden-skinned humanoid people who descended from a feline-like race. They have the power to convert ultraviolet radiation into energy for flight with the females producing a distinctive contrail that seems to flow from their hair. Tamaraneans have nine stomachs and are known to consume food that most Humans would find unappealing. They also seem to have the ability to learn new languages instantly by means of "lip contact" (kissing). As they mature, young Tamaraneans experience a phase of "transformation", in which they may undergo temporary physiological oddities and enter a chrysalis stage. The Cironielian Chrysalis Eater is a natural predator of the species during this stage. A few gained the ability to fire "starbolts", beams of energy, as a result of experiments performed by the Psions.

History

Despite their warrior ways, the Tamaraneans are a peaceful race, hailing from the planet Tamaran, their society driven more by emotion than reason. Unfortunately, the Tamaraneans were eventually forced into war when they were threatened by the Citadel, a fascist, dictatorship empire, aiming to conquer their world. The Tamaraneans defended their planet against the Citadel for more than an entire Earth century until Komand'r, one of Tamaran's royalty, betrayed her people and revealed crucial military secrets to the Citadel. The Tamaraneans were utterly defeated and nearly driven to extinction. King Myand'r made a reluctant truce with the Citadel in which he was forced to give his daughter, Koriand'r, to Citadel slavers. However despite this truce, Tamaran's troubles were far from over. The citizens of Tamaran saw the sacrifice of their beloved Princess Koriand'r as a tremendous act of weakness on Myand'r's part and instigated a worldwide civil war. Komand'r returned and in spite of the intervention of Koriand'r - now known as Starfire of the New Titans - she successfully usurped Myand'r's throne. During this time, Komand'r seized control of Tamaran, with her parents acting as her advisors. Koriand'r returned to Earth.

Later, Komand'r had come to realize that it was her own hate that made her despise the world that had spurned her. Using her abilities, Komand'r helped to free Tamaran and stopped a terrorist invasion. Komand'r ruled Tamaran justly and honorably, with both a warrior's fist and a queen's heart.

Society

Tamaraneans traditionally worship the goddess X'Hal. They are ruled by their emotions and were renowned as excellent warriors. Tamaraneans believe in the value of friendship. Friendship is honored in the Blorthog festival in which friends exchange gifts. They fear the rekmas, the point at which friends begin drifting apart.
