D&D or D20M?[edit]

Isnt' this more of a d20 Modern-ish type thing? =/ --Othtim 17:24, 12 October 2007 (MDT)

I'm not much of a fan of D20 modern itself, or its somewhat silly classes. But then again, there is technology in DnD also; think of the Inevitables and the Lawful Realm of mechanus. I see no reason why DnD itself can't be used for (post)modern things, as a lot of the things I design can be taken out of context either way. --Sulacu 17:34, 12 October 2007 (MDT))
True enough. I dislike Modern's classes as well. --Othtim 19:23, 12 October 2007 (MDT)
Er... Are you sure you do not want this to be part of D20M? I don't know if this really works in D&D... It may be a tad silly. --Green Dragon 12:27, 14 October 2007 (MDT)
I plan to make a comprehensive library of Half-Life entities, objects and perhaps NPCs, and eventually put it in context in a setting. A lot of the rules and regulations used in D20 modern irritate me, as do its classes. Let's just suffice it to say that I wouldn't advise this being used in a Forgotten Realms setting or something of the sort. I can understand it's somewhat of an arbitrary imposition - no pun intended - putting this in a setting most often reserved for Fantasy type RPGs, but I hope that I will have attained a level of clarity and exclusivity once the setting becomes more complete. If this is frowned upon, I can cease development and start working on things more in line with the fantasy genre. --Sulacu 18:08, 14 October 2007 (MDT)
If all these things are going to be CS relevant than it should be okay for them to stay here in the D&D section. I don't, anymore, think it will be that big of an issue :). --Green Dragon 18:11, 14 October 2007 (MDT)

As much as I love this concept, I do think that all Half-Life 2 such things would be better placed in the D20 Modern section. Discuss?--The Archivist 09:37, 15 October 2007 (MDT)

Yeah. I have said it before and I'll say it again. Sci-Fi and Fantasy don't really mix very well. Also, if it is from a Computer Game or otherwise copyrighted sourse, you need to add Template: Copyright Disclaimer (coding is {{Copyright Disclaimer}}). That is what I made it for; so that we could make D20 adaptations of copyright material. --Sam Kay 09:50, 15 October 2007 (MDT)
This needs to be in D20Modern.--Gruegirl 10:53, 15 October 2007 (MDT)
I don't agree, I don't think it needs to be in d20 modern. The dude who made all this Half Life stuff made it quite clear that he wants to use the D&D rules to build this stuff by. So why not include it in the D&D section, but don't mix it in with all the regular fantasy stuff. Make it a seperate section. So instead of putting it in the categories: (User | DnD | Equipment | Mundane | Armor) put it in: (User | DnD | Equipment | HalfLife) or somesuch. --Othtim 11:16, 15 October 2007 (MDT)
There isn't really enough half-life stuff to warrant it's own section. Plus, been as though D&D is a fantasy game, why have sci-fi-ish stuff that you don't mix with the fantasy stuff? Plus, look at what we did to the "elite" (alien from Halo); we turned it to a D20 modern race. And anyway, D&D and D20 modern use the same rules base, so it doesn't matter what rules you build it on. I think it would be better in D20 Modern --Sam Kay 13:27, 15 October 2007 (MDT)
Okay, okay, fair enough, fair enough. If by the virtue of doing so this debate will cease, I'll move it to D20. Still, I don't see much trouble for some of the Xenotheric species (headcrabs in particular), to be used in D&D. PS: I'm not a dude. --Sulacu 12:14, 16 October 2007 (MDT)
Yes, some of the "xenotheric" species (whatever that means) could work in D&D, so you could have two pages for such things. Another point is that D&D and D20 Modern are (theoredically at least) compatable, in rules. So yopu could still use some creatures from Half-Life D20 in D&D, if you wanted... --Sam Kay 09:51, 30 October 2007 (MDT)
D20M it is then, I guess. However, I am not a fan of the idea of adding these creations to both D&D and D20M—I say choose one of the other. Having it in both places seems redundant. --Green Dragon 18:15, 30 October 2007 (MDT)
I realize this discussion is very old, but D&D and d20 Modern use similar rules, but not the exact same ones. All of this half-life armor that is designed for D&D is now missing information needed for it to be used in Modern, and thus is just mucking up the wiki. JazzMan 20:39, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
