[edit] I'm pretty sure it didn't have this...
From everything I've read, Kusanagi's only ability was that it made the wind blow in the dirction it was swung, like a greater version of the spell Gust of Wind. It also wouldn't have been defending; on the contrary, in many legends it had a tendency to bring ill fortune. Also, there is really only one supposed picture of Kusanagi, which is of questionable validity, which depicts it being made of a silver/grey metal, such as iron or steel.
