Talk:Hook Sword (3.5e Equipment)

From D&D Wiki

you've neglected the fact that you can hook the hooks of two swords together, making the sword's range double (saw it on deadliest warrior). I think it would be appropriate to add in something like: "If you are weilding two hook swords, you can hook the hook ends together as a move action, temporarily making them a reach weapon. Also, as a standard, weapons that excel in disarming usually grant the user immunity to having their weapon disarmed when making a disarm check, not a plus 4 bonus.--Galfr 18:56, 20 May 2009 (MDT)

I agree. Otherwise, taking the whole disarming thing out may be better. Even with the shielded hilt, I don't see it giving a bonus to resisting disarm attempts. --Sulacu 03:07, 21 May 2009 (MDT)

Idea[edit]

Hello. Just had an idea. I woke up this morning and thought to myself "Wow, Hook Swords would be amazing!" so I checked and found your ideas. But I had some ideas on how to make them more defined. First of all, a Hook Sword should be considered an Exotic Weapon, as they are from Ancient China. Secondly, I feel that the Hook Sword, seeing as in order to fight effectively there should be two, should be considered a "Two-Hand Weapon", but not fall under the category of "Duel Wielding". I also love the idea of hooking them together. But when fighting as two individual weapons, because of their intended nature in real life, they should grant a a +2 Disarm and a +2 Trip. In addition to these ideas, because of the idea of "grabbing" an opponents weapon, side-stepping them, and drawing it behind their backs, the Hook Sword(s) should have +1 on Grapple. Lastly, because they can "grab" weapons (or armor), they should have a +1 on Defense or Block, like how a shield does. Not really sure how that system works...

To restate: Exotic Weapon, Two-Handed, +2 Disarm, +2 Trip, +1 Grapple, +1 Defense or Block

If what I said does not really make sense, I am sorry. I am new to Dungeons and Dragons (Only been playing for maybe two weeks at the time of this post [Aug 23, 2009]) and I have only played about four times for about five - eight hours each. : / -- —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Haugen (talkcontribs) .
