Talk:Hobgoblin, Variant (3.5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
This version is really really good. If LA buyoff is used, it is too good, because at high levels you would gain a lot for basically nothing. Also, compared to some other iconic LA+1 races like Aasimar and Tiefling, this is too good (although some people may argue that those two need a beef-up, too).
I'd say a +6 ability score total is too much for LA+1, remove the Con bonus, the rest is okay. Actually, I would have preferred a LA+0 version, since the original Hobgoblin is pretty much on that level. Sure, he has a +4 ability bonus total, but look at that list of dwarf goodies. --Mkill 11:17, 28 June 2007 (MDT)
- This is way too strong for +1. It's at least a +2. Yeah, the hobgoblin probably deserved a little more to be worth a +1, but not all of these things put together. Just a couple of those abilities. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 184.108.40.206 (talk • contribs) 21:29, 4 November 2008 (MST). Please sign your posts!
The aasimar and tiefling have the outsider type, that ramps up their power level considerably, as it gives immunity to some low level spells, gives martial weapon proficiency and opens up a lot of options with alter self.
