Talk:Half-Troll (4e Race)

Opinion on this: Well, it was a really good idea and all, but it doesn't hold too true. The regenerating is extremely quick (whereas I believe it took a whole minute in older versions for a Troll to regain health), and Trolls are supposed to not regenerate at all from wounds inflicted by fire and such if I remember correctly. Not naturally, anyhow. I suggest perhaps changing this a bit, and then it will be pretty cool. Nice work either way.

Oh yes, and maybe as a bonus you can have the whole thing where if they lose a limb and such it can still move, and that they can reattach them automatically just by placing them on the stump. Or maybe make that a Feat, because they're only half-Troll.

This Half-Troll is based off of the 4e Troll monster. The Regeneration works as it should in 4e, as well the 3.X minutia concerning "limb reattachment" was also removed and would seem pointless to include if even full Trolls do not have to worry over this anymore. -- Sepsis 01:41, 18 February 2009 (MST)
Yeah. I've read the Troll from an older version... It makes sense to me more now. Seems dumbed down (not like it's a dumb idea, but that it was simplified.) I guess looking over it again it makes sense. I would need to test out the character itself to be able to tell how much it worked or didn't work though.
I can envisage problems with this kind of semi-permanent regeneration. I see that it doesn't work outside of an encounter (as this would forgo the need for healing surges), but the party could still deliberately extend an encounter out. Actually, it's quite disruptive to the healing surge mechanic. I think this would be better handled by interacting with healing surges, perhaps by giving them an encounter power that lets them spend a healing surge if they are bloodied by non-fire non-acid damage. Right, I've fixed this by limiting the regeneration to bloodied state only. You're welcome. Marasmusine 04:40, 17 March 2012 (MDT)

Ug...I just noticed this page was locked before I had updated to the newer Template. If the page gets unlocked I'll be sure to update it (although it may be a week or so before I'm back on the Wiki). -- Sepsis 14:58, 3 August 2009 (MDT)

Adventuring and Fluff[edit]

I had designed this race to be used as an NPC Race (like those in the back of the MM), and so I never really imagined any of the PC related fluff (such as the "Aventuring" section). As well given all of the prexisting lore on Half-Trolls from previous editions I really didn't want to "reinvent the wheel" or worse just retype existing fluff. I assumed the amount of fluff presented was adequate to be used for the job, but I could see folks wanting more (particularly if this is allowed as a PC race). Still that would be more then I really care to do for this race but if anyone has some good fluff they want to add please do, I'll look at anything done and if it seems to uphold the spirit of the creation then that will be great. -- Sepsis 14:58, 3 August 2009 (MDT)

Page protected...[edit]

...so I can't update the categories or add a needsbalance template (per my comment above). Categories should be "Humanoid Type" and "Natural Origin". Marasmusine 02:44, 10 January 2012 (MST)
