Elves Suck![edit]

Elves suck! --Othtim 12:01, 17 September 2008 (MDT)

? --Sam Kay 13:28, 17 September 2008 (MDT)
It's true though, right? --Othtim 16:04, 17 September 2008 (MDT)
Which elves do you mean, exactly? --Sam Kay 09:34, 18 September 2008 (MDT)
I really hate those racist Dwarves, thinking that they are the greatest race. They need to lay off the ale.Master K 14:03, 26 June 2009 (MDT)

Favored Classes[edit]

I noticed you put Sorcerer as one of their "Favored Classes". Did you mean Warlock? The increase in Charisma will help them out in that class. -- Sepsis 14:46, 24 September 2008 (MDT)

No, I'm just assuming that when PHB II comes out (along with the sorcerer), it'll be charisma based, and the Sorcerer has always seemed more elvy than the wizard (innate magical power over years of training and arcane formulae), and more elvy than the warlock too (even with the star and fey pacts). Essentially, I am guessing. This may seem disjointed, but; how balanced do you think the racial traits are (I am unsure still)? --Sam Kay 15:19, 24 September 2008 (MDT)
Ah..I was unaware that Sorcerer was on the slate for the PHB2, sorry. I agree Sorcerer always seemed more Elfy then Wizard or Warlock, but still with this build they do make good Warlocks (as well as potential Sorcerers). As for the Racial Traits, I like the way you did them, all work well. They are a good mix of the 2 "Elven" races in the PHB, without being over the top. But I might replace Wild Step, with Forest Walk (MM pg. 283), I just like that better for Elves. -- Sepsis 16:34, 24 September 2008 (MDT)
Thanks for the advice. I completely agree about the wild step/forest walk; I don't know why I didn't think of that myself! How is the wording of the descriptions (physical qualities, etc.)? --Sam Kay 07:01, 27 September 2008 (MDT)

Fluff[edit]

The wording is great, it has a good flow, but although I like the homage to Tolkien with the Elves being Immortal, I'm just not fond of that for races living in the mortal world. It always seems to leave open tons of questions. But if your world has the history that takes this into account then go with it. I've always liked Elves living for X number of years before passing on into nature, evolving into Treants. But to each his own. The only other comment I would have is your use of the spelling "Silven" again its a great homage to Tolkien, but I would suggest going with the standard D&D spelling of "Sylvan". It's more paltable to gamers I think. But once more I must say you did a great job. I have a strong feeling these folks will be stepping into my world. I know my wife has eyed the description more then once, and she has a penchant for Elven Rangers. -- Sepsis 16:12, 27 September 2008 (MDT)

Featured Article Nomination[edit]

Yes check.svg.png — This article became a featured article! --Green Dragon 09:55, 20 February 2009 (MST)

I am nominating this article (despite the fact that it is my own article), because I would like to make it as good as it can be, and I think nominating it will help alot! --Sam Kay 08:59, 28 September 2008 (MDT)

Support — This is what 4e Elves should have been. The author has captured the feel of an "official" entry, and has made something that would fit into any campaign setting (something too many other articles cannot do). This is the type of article that needs to be recognized. -- Sepsis 16:22, 29 September 2008 (MDT)

Thanks! That is exactly what I was going for; what 4e elves should have been. --Sam Kay 12:10, 1 October 2008 (MDT)

Support — I must admit im not the most knowledgeable of 4e, still tis article seem to be well expanded, well worded and flavoured.--Lord Dhazriel 12:42, 1 October 2008 (MDT)

Oppose — I think that this looks like a mix between Eladrin and Elf, gaining the best of both. Oh, and also a 7 move speed (which no other published race has yet). Maybe it needs to be more of a variant than a merger. --Aarnott 16:15, 1 October 2008 (MDT)

Page 40 of the 4e PHB says otherwise, The "Official" Elves have a speed of 7 so their is one.ShadowyFigure 16:45, 1 October 2008 (MDT)
Oh -- you are right about that. It still seems to be strictly better than both Elves, and (more importantly), Eldarin. 4e has a strong balance I think, and strengthening a race like this doesn't seem like a good variant to me. --Aarnott 14:49, 6 October 2008 (MDT)
I don't think that it's stronger. I think you may have misunderstood the point of the variant. It replaces both elves and eladrin (which is why eladirin are mentioned as they are in the background description). The idea is to make them more elvy and combine them (I don't understand why high elves [eladrin] and wood elves would be seperate races; dark elves [drow] I get, but not other so-called "sub-races). --Sam Kay 08:54, 7 October 2008 (MDT)
It is a little stronger than the Elf, but now that I have some more 4e experience under my belt, I can safely say that the slightly stronger aspect is in no way game breaking. --Aarnott 09:04, 14 December 2008 (MST)

Support — The flavor is well put together and it holds true to the best elves of them all, the Tolkien elves. With Fey Step and Elven Accuracy this gives an elf character a bit more option if they don't want to be an Eladrin yet have the close to nature feel. ShadowyFigure 16:45, 1 October 2008 (MDT)

Comment — We need to decide what to do about the external links. I am a fan of not using the "w:" style links, but rather the standard external links style. Although, with so many links present the "." symbol could get annoying... Thoughts? --Green Dragon 13:48, 5 October 2008 (MDT)

I always find the "." symbol annoying, especially. when. there. are. lots. of. them.. --Sam Kay 14:47, 5 October 2008 (MDT)
I removed the links to Wikipedıa. That should help wıth curbing the amount of links. --Green Dragon 03:22, 16 February 2009 (MST)

Comment — Hyperlinks... [[Some]] people [[find]] [[it]] destracting when [[half]] [[the]] [[words]] in [[many]] of the [[paragraphs]] are [[linked]] to something. [[not]] [[every]] possible link [[needs]] to be [[included]]. (i think most of us know what battle, journey, travel, dwelling, love, ocean eyes trees leaves, and most of the other wikipedia links are. There are even more uneccassarry links, but i dont have the time to list them all). --Zau 14:30, 29 September 2008 (MDT)

On a second look, I think you are right. I may have got abit paranoid with the links! I have removed the more obvious ones. --Sam Kay 12:32, 1 October 2008 (MDT)

Comment — This page has been sitting around with the nominated thing on it for some time, without anything happening, so I am going to try to speed the process up. Has anybody got any ideas for how I could improve this article, or is it ready to be featured? --Sam Kay 04:57, 13 December 2008 (MST)

Frankly this is as close to perfect as I think you will get it. I've had one in my game for a bit and it has grown on everyone. In fact I expect at least on more of "your" elves to show up in my next campaign as well. Great job, my group and I thank you. -- Sepsis 05:58, 13 December 2008 (MST)
woah... someone is using "my" elves in a game? Cool. Thanks for playtesting them for me. --Sam Kay 12:08, 14 December 2008 (MST)

Support The layout is simple, the information is informative, and the stats appear very balanced when compared to some homebrew stuff.   Hooper   talk    contribs    email   07:59, 9 January 2009 (MST)

Comment — Which license is the image under? --Green Dragon 03:27, 16 February 2009 (MST)

I think it would be under free use... Do you think it needs Template:Copyright Disclaimer? --Sam Kay 02:22, 18 February 2009 (MST)
Yes, some documentation would be nice. --Green Dragon 09:55, 20 February 2009 (MST)
Added copyright disclaimer. --Sam Kay 10:29, 20 February 2009 (MST)

Variants[edit]

I want to move this to 4e Racial Trait Variants, where it belongs, but this requires a bit of reformatting. I'm hesitant to do this if this has been a featured article. Does anyone have any objections? Marasmusine 01:14, 21 April 2012 (MDT)

If it is just the upper stat changes that should be fine. I don't think removing all their background information would be the best route to take. --Green Dragon 10:06, 25 April 2012 (MDT)

Elf Image[edit]

As it was part of the entry for this featured article, it'd be prudent to find a replacement for this image fairly soon. Can admins please check Special:WhatLinksHere before deleting potentially important things?! --SgtLion (talk) 14:46, 12 October 2018 (MDT)

Image usages[edit]

I'm fairly certain the image by Jason Chan can qualify for fair use. If not, it will have to be deleted and hosted off-site. The picture of the feywild does not have a source unlike the first image, so it is in danger of being deleted for lack of sourcing.--Yanied (talk) 08:16, 12 January 2024 (MST)
