Talk:Dead Eye (3.5e Prestige Class)

Power level worse than fighter[edit]

Is this a serious attempt at a prestige class? In ten levels, you have 4 dead levels, lots of abilities that are barely worth a feat (+1 critical multiplier? I'm trembling.) and everything is dependent on lucky rolls (I can spend entire sessions without ever rolling a critical). Plus you don't even have full BAB, which is critical for any melee class that does not have tons of abilities like a Psychic Warrior. And you have to give up full attacks for making a single strike, which ruins either your mobility or your chance to do somewhat decent damage. Even the oh-so-scary level 10 ability is dwarfed by a vorpal sword, which kills without a save.

Isn't it a bit pitiful to have a prestige class which is trumped by a Fighter with a scabbard of keen edges and a vorpal sword? --Mkill 23:54, 22 July 2007 (MDT)

Well the 3 points to the critical threat range would be pretty busted actually (if it stacks with keen, which it should not most likely). Really though, this class needs a major upheaval. --Aarnott 07:19, 23 July 2007 (MDT)
Stacking rules for critical threat range are a bit convoluted, and most people get it wrong anyway. But the author of this class didn't clarify either. What I would have liked to see is, instead of just screwing around with the numbers, some interesting effects to achieve with criticals:
  • wounding hits
  • blinding (hit the eyes)
  • deafening (hit the ears)
  • slowing down (hit legs)
  • unconsciousness / stun
  • free cleave if you kill a creature with a critical
etc. --Mkill 10:28, 23 July 2007 (MDT)
