Talk:Dark Fire (3.5e Spell)

Does the heat from this spell cause the air around the weapon to shimmer? If the heat is present, the weapon should be surrounded by a haze as long as the spell is in effect. Also, does this counter or dispel light-effect spells (such as light, flare, daylight, and others)? It would make sense to me that it would be an effective counter against light-effect spells. Also, great spell. Love the "separating heat from light" idea. --Othtim 18:10, 20 March 2008 (MDT)

It is possible to see the heat waves off the object enchanted though it is circumstantial based on what is behind (background). If it is completely black, then perhaps it is next to impossible to detect. DC 20 on a spot check like a cleaned out gelatinous cube from a Dragon Magazine. I wouldn't feel that Dark Fire on a weapon such as a sword would temporarily turn it into a flaming weapon but that is a DM call. I shy away from that because I can see someone trying to turn that temporary enchantment of Dark Fire into a permanent effect.
The spell Dark Fire will not mask an enchantment (such as light, flare, daylight, and others) that is already on the object and vice versa. A rock could have Dark Fire and Continual Flame cast on it and it would appear to be a rock with some combustible material that is on fire. It wouldn't cancel out darkness or light because the descriptor for Dark Fire is Fire. --Kermit 01:42, 21 March 2008 (MDT)
