Talk:Arcanist (3.5e Class)

Sounds like a great class I'll add it to my high magic game but the fort save"s need to be changed they drop about 4 points at lv 20 to what I think is the right number

This class is literally too stupid to play without breaking a campaign wide open. A simple Acid Splash from this class deals 1d3+X, where X is the character's age in years. To repeat, a 0 level spell dealing upwards of 30 damage/casting, or significantly more through the use of Dragonborn or another long-lived race. This is the tip of the iceberg of the class, which is around the same power level as the Planar Shepherd, Shadowcraft Mage, Tainted Scholar, and other campaign-shattering classes (and it's very odd to have a base class that is on the same level of power as some of the most broken prestige classes ever printed by Wizards of the Coast). The class features are not even spelled out beyond snippets. It does not follow proper wording guidelines. Abilities are listed half-finished at best in certain areas, and the class' spellcasting mechanic could have at least been copied from the SRD properly. Aside from the author trying to shove the obvious down your throat, it comes across as a wish-fulfillment class some idiot thought up to use in his homebrew campaign. The flavor is short, sweeping generalizations that do not justify a single feature the class has, and the text itself is written without a single hint of sarcasm that similar classes had (at least the Lightning Warrior was clearly not intended for actual use, and was little more than a bad joke).

Whoever designed this class needs to be slapped with every single book ever printed for D&D, with no exceptions made for books from different editions.

[edit] Rating

Power - 0/5 I give this class a 0 out of 5 because a level 5 character should not be able to take on a level 20 character. Especially for something as mutable as a character's age. --Dr. Seymour 15:56, 6 February 2012 (MST)

Wording - 0/5 I give this class a 0 out of 5 because "magic is the essance of life," "weqaking their primary,"usually dosen't" and horrible grammar --Dr. Seymour 15:56, 6 February 2012 (MST)

Formatting - 0/5 I give this class a 0 out of 5 because it does not follow the formatting guidelines. --Dr. Seymour 15:56, 6 February 2012 (MST)

Flavor - 0/5 I give this class a 0 out of 5 because there is no sample NPC and the class is "Wizard, but better." --Dr. Seymour 15:56, 6 February 2012 (MST)
