Talk:Ambiko (3.5e Race)

 Comments Welcome!
Comments are wonderful. Actually this is the first attempt at having a spell-like ability on a race. By keeping the extras elsewhere low and nerfing the spell it is based on hard, I hope that I can still avoid a LA. I'd greatly appreciate any comments on balance, so I may maintain LA 0. -- Eiji 02:13, 19 September 2007 (MDT)
 Additional Traits
I think it looks OK, but it's a little skimpy on the additional abilities. Disguise Self is merely a first level spell, and is eventually supplanted by Hats of Disguise. The race is certainly playable; a Charisma bonus and Favored Class: Any assures that. But I think a fluff ability or some skill bonuses would be good to bulk the race up some more. It wouldn't hurt to increase the Disguise Self progression to +1 use/day every three or four levels. Perhaps a bonus feat to represent how varied they are, even. But not necessarily all together. - Thank you very much for the advice. I decided to boost the duration of Disguise Self (since I did want them to be shifted often) though I'm not entirely sure I'm happy with it still. Would it be balanced if I gave it 24 hour duration? The Disguise x/day would still apply so they could not just shift constantly.
- I also gave them a (hopefully minor) fluff +2 racial bonus to one skill of their choice to represent skills taken from others. Thank you for all the commentary. :D -- Eiji 19:26, 23 October 2007 (MDT)
- It certainly does look more appealing. I think the skill bonus was a neat touch to give the race that little bit of versatility. I think that 1/hour per level for the transformation ability is OK. I'm not wholly sure on the 24 hour duration, but it probably would not be unbalancing. Finfreeze 04:12, 26 October 2007 (MDT)
- I decided to keep it as 1 hour/level. I did increase it's growth to 1 per 4 levels though. Your advice has been most helpful. Eventually I'll make a Paragon class for them which will let them mimic more things beyond appearance. I hereby call this done like dinner. :D -- Eiji 17:57, 26 October 2007 (MDT)
