Librarians are the only space marines capable of wielding magic. These cobalt-armoured warriors provide arcane support to their brethren with formidable magic power, setting the battlefield ablaze while shielding their allies from harm.

Arcane Azure. Librarians are set apart from their fellow space marines by the blue paint of their armour, with only the left pauldron retaining the colours of their actual chapter. They often go into battle bareheaded, the better for the crystalline filaments of their psychic hoods to thread into their skulls, and the sight of their eyes blazing with psionic power has given pause to many a foe.

Wards and Focuses. Space marines view magic with mistrust and fear, and librarians are fitted with multiple safeguards to prevent their arcane powers from going out of control. The psychic hood which forms the collar of their armour serves to focus their power while also protecting them from hostile telepathic intrusion and demonic possession. In battle the librarian carries a force staff made out of psionically-attuned crystal, which serves as both an arcane focus for their spells and also a conduit with which to channel raw magical energy into the bodies of their foes.

Secluded Scholars. Although space marines recognize that sometimes fire must be fought with fire and that magic is a necessary weapon in their crusade, many chapters tolerate their librarians only begrudgingly. Librarians are thus frequently ostracized by their fellow space marines, and when not on the battlefield they will often keep to themselves, tending to the chapter’s records and lore.
