Silverblight[edit]

Weakened I was, now I stand stronger than ever

Physical Description[edit]

The silverblight are a race of winter wolf lycanthropes that have lost their shapechanging abilities. They have, however, retained some of their qualities on their now forced human form. silverblight look very similar to humans retaining only their wolf ears and tail, and they tend to have the same qualities except for the unusually long hair on both genders. Their hair color tends to vary from silver to black often combining both in streaks that cross their hair. The most often seen combination is silver hair grown in infancy that melds into black as the silverblight grows, the second most common being a fully silver mane. However, rare breeds have been seen of gold, brown, or even reddish hair.

A mature silverblight is indistinguishable from a human (hiding ears and tail of course), however, as infants most silverblight have extremely pale skin that doesn't develop any real color until they reach maturity (roughly around age 16). They show a considerably high constitution as adults yet they seem to have frail builds until about age 16 where most grow proper muscles and develop in the same way a human would.

History[edit]

The silverblight are a race of winter wolf lycanthropes cursed by a powerful black dragon. Because of this curse, their shapechanging abilities no longer exist. Their original packs lived in peace with many of the other races of the world, living out in snowy forests and mountains. However, the attack that cursed them destroyed most of the original packs and left only about 100 survivors who scattered across the lands with one drive, a deep hatred for black dragons. Their curse, however, has made it difficult for them to find safe refuge in most places, due to its unstable nature.

However, there is a bright side to this. The curse granted them a means to access a unique arcane weapon, by combining their innate ice controlling abilities with the acidic curse left on them. This weapon takes the form of a sphere of dark snow laced with acid, appropriately being named the Black Snow.

The black snow consists of simple snowflakes with crystallized acid on the center. While black in the center, the outside points are still white snow giving a distinct silver sheen whenever light is cast upon the flake. It is from this snow that the silverblight gain their name, for it only appears near them. When it does, it brings nothing but destruction. The ice numbs the target's body making it harder for them to realize the acid slowly melting their flesh.

The Story of the First Silverblight

A field of pure white... a shining blue light... the moon rises once more, and the silver wolves follow. A proud race of lycanthropes capable of turning into ferocious winter dire wolves, they hunt, they search, they find. The pack looks into the sky to follow the silver moon but meets a dark shadow blocking the light... the shadow of a black dragon. His wings stop the sacred light, his eyes scan the area, and with a horrendous roar, our snow paradise begins to wither away. He claims the land from its inhabitants, leaving our prey in front of us, its flesh melting. The beast finds us the only creature standing against his curse. He speaks to us, wanting us to surrender... but we attack. As the dragon rages against us, we let our fangs and claws tear into his scales... but something strange happens. The blue light that has guided us since the beginning starts to fade as the sky slowly turns black... The pack is severely weakened as many fall one by one. Once the blue light returns, only around 100 of us remain. Weakened, we are forcibly reverted back to human form, the acid corrupting us inside. He laughs and takes us as slaves, making our former home his new castle. Yet while he slumbers drunk on victory... those of us who remained made our escape. Our fangs have been removed, but we still sharpen them, planning for the day that that dragon will fall and we will retake our home.

Society[edit]

Silverblight tend to have many children (4-5 per pair) since the curse kills many infants easily. Only the strongest or luckiest Silverblight reach maturity. They rarely travel in big packs, as most have scattered and searched haven with other packs or human settlements, yet their curse rarely lets them stay. As they grow the curse acts violently on their body reaching it's peak around the age of 16 erupting in a powerful storm of black snow that devours everything in the area, killing or nearly killing them in the process. silverblight that survive the first eruption become immune to the storm and are capable of calling it again. However, because of this silverblight are often removed from their homes or choose to leave before the eruption happens. They tend to stay separate from others because of this, but the curse still shines, often forcing them to search haven in other places hiding their blight while searching for a way to neutralize it.

Silverblight Names[edit]

Most silverblight names have a variation of the moon in any language within them, and they are often branded with the surname of silverblight as a way to tell others to avoid them. Many take this name and reduce it to just an S. and place it in the middle of their name. Others take it as their heritage and adopt the name, but most take a variation of their original name in order to blend into other societies.

Example: Lua silverblight, living in the Wolfmaw village: Lia S. Wolfmaw

Male: Jelian, Kamar, Mond, Teleso

Female: Lua, Kuu, Suki
