Santa's Helper[edit]

There live tiny beings in the frigid parts of the world. They look like dwarves or gnomes, but not quite so grumpy or old. They have the ears of elves and the wit of leprechauns. Catch one and you'd see they're dressed in quite an odd color scheme. They giggle playfully in their groups which collaborate to craft items and are generally very aloof. See one and it may play tricks on you so beware. They aren't inhospitable, but the terrain in which they inhabit is certainly not the most desired of environments. They survived, keeping a very warm culture of tricks, magic and crafting in their famed workshops of toys for children.

Physical Description[edit]

A typical Helper

Santa's Helpers are described to be small, little humanoid creatures with a rather large head proportional to their bodies. They have the height of a dwarf or gnome but nowhere near as stocky a stature. They have rather spindly but nimble limbs and elegantly crafty fingers. They are described to have eyes that twinkle with curiosity like a child's and expressions that are completely innocent and joking. They have pointed ears like an elf and often elegant noses. Their hair varies in color like that of humans. Their faces are mistakenly described to be that of a child's sometimes but are actually that of a young adult.

History[edit]

Santa's Helpers, having the skill of craft in their workshops like dwarves and their forges, and the affinity for magic and wit of elves, are thought to be a breed between the two. This is speculation, of course. It is possible for snow elves to have mated with indigenous creatures, thus birthing these creatures that are very comfortable in the cold.

A popular story tells of these helpers appearing in the north around the same time people started celebrating the months of cold with family. These helpers were brought to the world with a chairman in a red suit in an otherworldly sled or chariot. They immediately set to work making goodies for well-behaved children and their chairman delivered them throughout the world. In this lore, they'd be considered emissaries of a god of charity perhaps, created on another world.

Society[edit]

Santa's Helpers organize in unions. They live and work in isolated workshops in the cold under some chairman in a red suit for a period of the cold season. The other times, they are quite a lackadaisical race that relax in their nifty little homes and entertain each other with stories and magic tricks. They are a very secluded race, granted their location, and so are a bit wary of outsiders and even secretive. While they won't deny a weary traveler a seat by the flame, they may play tricks on the person and can get quiet vengeful when their house rules for outsiders are shirked.

They organize their society around a central figure according to lore known as the chairman in red. Thanks to their magic and craftiness, they make quite the fun and high-quality objects for fun or utility and this they share with those outside gladly.
